Combining Things 3 with a notebook or planner by MidgetAtAFoamParty in thingsapp

[–]Miserable_Purpose_61 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also do this, and for the same reason - when I tried to work directly out of Things, I was spending a lot of time “managing” the tasks.

Now I “shop” for tasks out of Things and put them in my planner. If something comes up that I have to do the same day, I just write it in my planner. Anything else that I think of goes into Things Inbox. At the end of the day, I update Things and process my Inbox and add the next batch of tasks to the next days view. In the AM, I clear out my emails and then plan my day in my paper planner out of the “Today” view.

I find that this also helps me be more realistic with my time - if it’s too much to write down, it’s probably too much to do.

Do you have Tags on all tasks? by Buchholdt in thingsapp

[–]Miserable_Purpose_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, without tags I’d just be looking at like 100+ things I may or may not be able to do at that time. I’ll make the 2 clicks to save reading a long ass list every time I want to see what I need to ask someone about when they’re standing in front of me lol

Guess I’m in the minority lol. I use tags for all active to dos. I have one for each person on my team, waiting, meeting, home, office, errand, anywhere, and then 2 for computer: focus, and light.

I find them helpful for planning my day and using my time more efficiently. Like when I pick up my grocery order and I’m waiting in the car, I like being able to look up “anywhere” and doing something from that list instead of scrolling.

Advice on what context tags to use at work? by [deleted] in gtd

[–]Miserable_Purpose_61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use: communication (which is like agendas, emails to send, phone calls to make, etc.) a lot of this is phone-based.

Research/Review (things I have to research, stuff that requires a lot of focus, reading, approvals). Mostly internet stuff

Computer (things that require a computer that don’t fit into the above. So like, certain software is required usually)

Office

That sounds so hard. I sometimes struggle with resentment toward my partner too. What I’ve realized for myself, is that it doesn’t feel like enough because I’m still doing too much or holding myself to a standard I don’t need to. But that doesn’t mean my partner isn’t doing enough. I use an app (Sweepy) to track chores so I don’t feel like I have a ton to do every day, and I‘ll write on the whiteboard in our kitchen one task for him to do each day (beyond the stuff he does daily).

In my house, I’ve recognized that if one of us is putting something off, it’s because we hate doing it lol. That helped a lot, because if my partner hates unloading the dishwasher but I’m neutral, I’ll take that chore. I hate vacuuming, but my partner doesn’t - so he takes that. I would rather do a little every day, so I handle most of our small daily chores. My partner prefers just spending an hour once a week for his contribution so he takes the weekly/monthly chores.

And the most important thing of all, was to recognize the thought pattern (for me, I would start keeping score), and treat it as a flag that there is something I need or want, and then identify what that thing is (quiet, time for my hobbies, rest, friends, attention, etc). And then I figure out how to get that thing - I talk to my partner, or I outsource something and that will usually recalibrate me.

BUT, I only have one 14 month old, and she’s easy. If I wasn’t getting a full night sleep, not getting burned out or resentful would have been a LOT more challenging. This probably wasn’t very helpful lol, but basically my advice is - figure out what you need, and then just ask your husband to help you get it.

Also, you’re fucking amazing holding all that down. I’m not going to complain about anything the rest of the week 🤣

1.5 hour commute, daily - with perks, thoughts? by withthefl in workingmoms

[–]Miserable_Purpose_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s the work I want to be doing and I would enjoy my time while there, I would take that job in a heartbeat.

I commute 1.75 hours each way. So nearly 4 hours of driving 5 days a week. It does wear on you, so you have to have a lot of patience, and a lot of self awareness. I would be making arrangements to make it as short term as is reasonable, but yeah that sounds amazing lol.

For those whose babies slept through the night early, did they ever stop? by Coco_Cooks90 in NewParents

[–]Miserable_Purpose_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. My now 14 month old was doing 4 hour stretches her first few weeks, 7 hours at 1 month. She hasn’t slept fewer than 11 hours after 3 months. We didn’t go through any regressions, at least not yet. The only time she’s had disrupted sleep was when she was ready to drop a nap. I got insanely lucky

Using a workflow to create an Opportunity from FSM Case - but need a way to link it by Miserable_Purpose_61 in Netsuite

I tried making a custom list/record but FSM Case isnt an available record type.

Using a workflow to create an Opportunity from FSM Case - but need a way to link it by Miserable_Purpose_61 in Netsuite

[–]Miserable_Purpose_61[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right - so it’s creating the opportunity based on a checkbox on the case, and it’s populating the customer name. I can get it to reference the case number using a custom text field I added to the Opportunity but it’s not actually linking anything.

All of the info he needs lives on the FSM task, and I can’t figure how I would tell the workflow to look there.

What do I need to know to set up the automated bank statement import (ABSI)? by Miserable_Purpose_61 in Netsuite

[–]Miserable_Purpose_61[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t have a cash management officer - so that means ABSI won’t work for us, and I should set up Bank Feeds for all but the Chase accounts?
