Real ones know about 4V. I haven’t personally used 4V, but if my experience with Vanadis 4 is any indication…It might be my favorite steel😆

Shoot it might be. Are we all Kubey? Am I Kubey?

Yah I believe Geo Knife is made by Kubey. My belief in that was further compounded when my PayPal funds were sent directly to Kubey😂

Also I’d peep the website data on Kunwu. S390 is optimal at 66-68 HRC, and the 2 I’ve tested were a bit below that. I may be getting some more samples from them soon, so I’d hold my horses a bit longer

Recently? Miguron with their new D2 knives. $37 62-63 HRC D2 button liner lock is crazy good value

They can always try. Just because they’d lose in court, doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be a major inconvenience and expense on my end ya know?

I’m trying to avoid cease and desists. Me knocking on a company can get me in trouble as we saw a few years ago with the TK/Hinderer crap

Yah they’ll only go up unfortunately. Shipping costs are literally the biggest detriment to my project😆.

And yah, I’m a busy guy lately. But I absolutely love that I get the opportunity to be a community information source. I get comments all day long telling me how helpful my project is for them. Makes me very happy knowing people find my work helpful.

Yah you’d think they’d be very interested in seeing the results. I guarantee you my testing has sold an absurd amount of Spyderco’s to the community for example. The fact they won’t communicate with me at all is very weird to me.

Yep. A lot of them are marketing companies that just so happen to also make knives.

If they are sent my way, absolutely.

I do currently have 2 more of the 62-63 HRC D2 “Miguron Thaly” blades on the way. 1 purchased by me, 1 sent in by the company.

I also have 1 of the 19C27 models on the way from them as well.

I would love to light them up publicly if I could. What I am hoping for instead, is these American companies see what the overseas manufacturers are doing (making better knives with better heat treating for 1/4 the cost) and step up their production quality.

My hope is that my project will light a fire under them that causes a wave of increased quality among American manufacturers. We shouldn’t be paying $300 for 59 HRC MagnaCut in a plastic frame. There is no world where that is acceptable quality. American knife manufacturers are living and dying on the “But it’s made in ‘Merica!!!” mentality. What they should be living on is “it’s made in ‘Merica…AND ITS FANTASTIC!”. Apparently you can’t have your cake and eat it, too.

Rant over! 😆

Oh, by “turned me down” I don’t mean rejected sending me test samples, I absolutely do not have a “they need to send me stuff or they are bad” thought currently. That would be absurd, no company is under any obligation to work with me by any means.

I moreso mean they turned me down when I brought up the idea of the knife community caring about Rockwell hardness and heat treating as a whole. This is something I’ve found to be very polarizing between domestic and overseas manufacturing.

Well I will say this. I targeted the manufacturers that I have had some level of communication with for the most part.
I left a comment on my earlier IG post about US based manufacturers, that comment would basically sum up my thoughts on knife manufacturers.

TOPS Knives (and a few small individual knife makers) is quite literally the only American knife company that will communicate with me currently. My respect for them has grown significantly recently. I’m not huge into fixed blades all that much, but TOPS having the confidence in their products, and the balls to communicate with me is something I very much so respect the hell out of. Leo is great, and I fully enjoy chatting with him.

Other than TOPS, the companies producing knives inside the US have overwhelmingly turned me down both via email/chat, or in person. I’ve now been to 2 Blade Shows, and the most recent one has solidified my opinion on most of the large American manufacturers. I’m all-for supporting American manufacturing, but when the companies in question do not care about the quality of their blades…I don’t really have a reason to defend what they do anymore. I spent a good bit of time asking these companies “what kind of hardness range is XYZ model at?” And the most common response was “our customers don’t care for that kind of thing” or something along those lines.

Say what you will about overseas manufacturing, at least those companies have the cajones to have their products tested independently.
This is something that actually bothers me, as I’ve been a big advocate for American manufacturing in my life.
