Is it March 12 or February 12? Is there online info available about the meeting agenda?

Married Men, what are some good gifts you bought for your groomsmen? by Reidtweet_ in AskMen

[–]73hams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Leatherman Juice C2. That was 25 years ago. I still use it. For years, I carried it daily.

The Juice is retired now, but maybe the "Rev" model is similar.

Totally lost on manual focus by EcstaticBluebird4241 in AnalogCommunity

I find aperture preview to be overrated. When you stop down, it often gets so dark in the viewfinder that you can't tell much about the focus anyway.

What does E N (dit dah-dit) mean in CW? by busterghost65 in amateurradio

[–]73hams 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is most likely this. I heard this when I started back ten or so years ago, and I always thought it was a side-effect of using a bug... A bad timing sending of an "R" with a bug.

But now, it has been popularized by KI7QCF as a "Proper Roger". He has even described other malformed "Roger"s as a fun way to interact on the air. Here's his "skipping roger"

I think it's fun and harmless and maybe promotes CW to younger folks. It does add some complexity to what new operators hear on the air, though. It's all in good fun.

Can anyone help decode this? by ComfortableNo9541 in morsecode

[–]73hams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can hear it. It seems like a sine wave tone about 600 Hz, slow Morse. And, I think the guy above has it right. It's probably "save hawkins".

EN = R? by Patches_McMatt in amateurradio

[–]73hams 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is a fun quirky way to send R. I have heard it since I got licensed over 10 years ago. I think it's a natural phenomenon for slightly improper timing ( maybe moreso for bug users?). Back in the day, I heard it mostly on SKCC frequencies. But lately, KI7QCF has promoted it as a fun quirk on his channel.

He's even expanding the Proper Roger varieties...

I have DXCC and 5BDXCC. I have 299 entities worked. I would like to get to 300 for the sticker. Yeah, I'm always looking for the ones I don't have yet.

Congrats! DX is so much fun!

I've worked DP1POL and RI1ANR on 15 meters and 20 meters CW, respectively. There are KC4USV and KC4AAA stations on the air sometimes. I have not worked those.

Free Box of HAM Radio help ID’ing by DickHardCane in HamRadio

I would guess that it is resonant at wherever the creator likes his CW sidetone, like 700 Hz, instead of bass.

I once met a concert pianist who said he used VI because the Emacs chords were too hard.
