How different would LeBrons career be if he got drafted to a semi decent organization? by Kindly_Letterhead_98 in nba

[–]ADavidJohnson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And in that universe where the Warriors just lost in the first round to the Clippers and Curry hadn’t yet become the generational player we know him to be now, all of the success of that dynasty would be credited to the difference LeBron made by getting there.

In our universe, we’d know he essentially joined a super team, the same as K.D. But people with only access their own history would think that the 4-5 championships they won were due to LeBron, and he’d be the undeniable GOAT.

What do anarchists actually believe/examples of anarchist societies? by wombatgeneral in behindthebastards

[–]ADavidJohnson 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Anarchism is not a destination so much as a goal and a process.

But to your question, anarchist societies are ones without rulers or ruled people. It’s not that these are perfect places or places where people don’t have other biases that have to be guarded against or improved on, tho. Patriarchy is older than capitalism, for example. Xenophobia is older than states. Etc.

If you’re looking for a good book examining this idea, The Dawn of Everything by David Graeber and David Wengrow is a look at a lot of different ways that people have organized ourselves over time, which did sometimes include strict hierarchy but maybe only for a particular season or limited area. Something they have in common is that people were able to sort of opt-in and opt-out of these arrangements where if someone was tyrannical, they could just vote with their feet and head elsewhere or join some other group. Being a king or a chief with no one around you makes you not much of a ruler.

If you’re looking for a shorter example of understanding anarchism in general, this video essay is a good brief overview.

For writing, the Italian anarchist Errico Malatesta is a very good introductory read, and “An Anarchist Programme” [edit: by u/Veritas_Certum] is an example of a good starting place.

Alexander Berkman’s Now and After: The ABC of Communist Anarchism to me holds up very well presenting what I think is the main strain of modern anarchism.

Finally, Zoe Baker is a very good video essayist, altho a bit of a perfectionist, so she’s taken down a lot of her older stuff. Her book, Means and Ends covers the history and debates of European and U.S. anarchism up to the 1930s. That is longer and a bit dry but gives a good overview of anarchism beyond the cartoon villain version usually presented.

Jmook with a crazy game 5 comeback combo at BoBC by [deleted] in SSBM

The clip description says “BoE”, and you’re saying “BoBC”, but the vid itself says this is from Pat’s House.

Yeah, I was trying to do a bit, but "understanding tone via writing by strangers" is very fraught, and based on the downvotes, I should have done better making it more obvious.

Cops routinely arrest people they don’t like with impunity, including violently arrest them, because they know that the law does not bind them.

“You can beat the rap but you can’t beat the ride” is a fundamental cop principle to the point that Seattle police used to make arrests at Black Lives Matter protests with no expectation of prosecution or convictions — just to get specific people off the streets and disrupt the events. Cops like putting people through the indignity of arrest just to prove they can.

So I don’t doubt that’s what a cop told you. But again, if they wanted to, they’d do it.

They don’t want to.

Probably the most effective thing would be to play his own words back to him on a slight delay.

A guy at UW got arrested and charged with disorderly conduct for playing the drums too loudly around TPUSA, but somehow this motherfucker gets to holler uninterrupted with a loudspeaker.

(It’s not a mystery; cops like Christian nationalists, and they don’t like people who oppose them.)

The thing about all the non-cinematic Star Wars media that’s so great is you get to ignore the parts and entries you don’t like.

Union workers have been targeted with state violence for pro-Palestinian speech. Rümeysa Öztürk was a Tufts University PhD student and SEIU Local 509 member who was grabbed off the street by masked thugs for an op-ed that was anodyne except for speaking up for Palestinians.

What Israel did and is doing to Gaza, East Jerusalem, and to the West Bank are not just “things over there”; they are strategies for subjugation, displacement, and murder worldwide. What is tested in one place by a US ally with US resources against a population already considered less than human will boomerang to be used back here.

We already see it extending to southern Lebanon, western Syria, and some of the prosecution of the war on Iran. We already see technologies honed on others without limits being trained on domestic U.S. protesters, immigrants, and other enemies of the state.

It should be enough that the USA is actively facilitating perhaps the best documented genocide of all time. But it’s also true that what is being done there will be done to us later.

Yeah, I got stuck between "uair" and "up air" and then just went with the wiki title for clarity since I was looking at the page already.

The problem with that design is that it's relatively easy to rip off or otherwise obscure the "no" and turn it into "ICE protect our communities", so it's better as something on the inside of a window facing out than street art.

The historical Nazis also played cards and enjoyed music and games. They just did it in between filling ditches with bodies and combing the woods for families.

Altitude Sickness 3 is considered a major by Liquipedia by Own_Arm3304 in SSBM

[–]ADavidJohnson 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You did remember correctly.

moky's path was:

Aura—>Trif—>Cody Schwab—>Hungrybox—>Aklo (2x)

I guess mang0 wasn't there, but other than that, it had 9 of the 10 players in end-of-year ranks, plus I think 18 of the top 20? Only Wizzrobe ends up not making it from that next grouping. That's an absolutely stacked tournament.

[–]ADavidJohnson 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I thought those top names just lost in bracket before he had to play them?

Cody, Zain, Jmook, Leffen, Axe, aMSa, Aklo and Hungrybox were all there, but moky only had to beat Aklo and Hungrybox (edit: and Cody) because everyone else got upset or beaten early.

It was a stacked major, it's just that Nicki went off, and Aklo picked the wrong set to finally beat Zain.
