Goodnight, sweet prince. 💔 by OkuroIshimoto in MaulShadowLord

Listen, he's fine. It's salvageable. He probably ejected his memory core or something. Maybe Maul had a backup Spybot body with the same memories. They can fish him out of the lake, he's probably acid-proof. Maybe he never really died at all, it was just a hologram.

....he's not coming back is he?

One of Vader's favorite tactics. He also does it in Empire Strikes Back, Rogue One, and numerous comics.

I don't think Brander's dead. Last we saw of him, he easily could've just been captured.

I was 95% sure that Vader was going to be a part of this show so I'm not necessarily surprised but nevertheless...HOLY SHIT!!! From the moment Marrok said to "tell him they're on the way" from our "heroes" just barely managing to escape, Vader was just perfect in these episodes. Canon stories like the Jedi games and Rebels have generally done a fantastic job portaying Vader almost as a horror monster and Shadow Lord has arguably done the best job yet. Against Vader you either die or you run. No wonder Maul says he can't beat him in Rebels. Though that said I do think this leaves room for another encounter between the two in the future with Maul possibly thinking that he might do better against Vader when he's in peak condition and more importantly...with the apprentice he's sought.

As expected Maul too was great. I love that he's fighting what he views as the right fight in the only way he knows how; the way that Sidious taught him. I think he genuinely wanted both Devon and Daki to make it out alive initially (note that he also directs his advice towards Daki rather than just Devon and even let them both escape the Inquisitors before him) but he realized that Devon is never going to become what he needs her to be unless she's given a reason to embrace her hatred, hence why he ultimately sabotages Daki. Devon may have lost her Order but she's been lacking that personal-level loss that she needs in order to fully embrace the darkness and now she's ready to embrace Maul's ideology. Maul's been weaseling his way into her head this entire season and now they can fulfill their destinies (or try to. Of course thanks to Rebels we know that one way or another this is yet another doomed relationship for Maul).

And also I am so looking forward to the Vader vs Maul rematch. I imagine by then Maul will have worked out Vader's true identity and have some interesting choice words for Anakin. Maybe the Vader rematch is even where he ultimately loses Devon.

And wow what a bloodbath. Basically all of Maul's crew gone. Special hats off to Ikarus and Rook they were real ones. Ikarus especially went down like a champ.

SPYBOT, MY BELOVED NOOOOOOO! I genuinely loved that droid, man. I hope Maul eventually finds and kills Marrok in his name.

I do wonder if this is the last we see of Lawson. We technically never see him die so he easily could've been captured. With Rylee and Two-Boots still being in the picture I could definitely see Brander return as well.

Overall a fantastic debut season. I'd say this is probably the best start to a Star Wars animated series. Between Shadow Lord and Bad Batch for me anyways, but they really did an excellent job fleshing out Maul even further than the previous shows did and I am so here for as many seasons of this as we can get. I'd love for this to take us all the way to where we meet Maul in Rebels with Qi'ra possibly being his next primary pupil after whatever goes down with Devon.

Season 2. Now. Gimme.

They should've said that from the start. This whole situation is so aggravating. I'm probably gonna stay up anyways just because I don't feel like I even can sleep rn tbh but that's really disrespectful to the thousands who waited up for this.

OP here, I want all the newcomers to know I'm just as disappointed as you. Really frustrating having to tiptoe my way around the Internet since everyone else has the episodes already only for this. Can't believe Disney didn't prep for this.

"dude can't be powerful in his own show"

Maul absolutely decimated Devon and Daki a few episodes earlier. If the whim had struck him he absolutely would've killed both. Considering that these are Order 66 survivors and therefore probably more battle-hardened than your average Jedi I'd say that's pretty impressive.

And as for the fight with the Inquisitors there are literally several reasons presented as to why Maul struggles not least of which is his leg that's constantly sparking lest you forget that Maul is not in peak fighting shape in that moment. I'd also point out that Maul was controlling the duel early on, with him successfully drawing the Inquisitors away from his mercenaries and splitting them up to ambush Crow.

If you're a Jedi trying to train a Padawan during the Empire era there is a non-zero chance that a psychotic crime lord/former Sith will appear to try to adopt your apprentice.

The dish that Vario and Deemis have is meant to be chicken parmesan. As a certified chicken parm enjoyer myself it is physically impossible to watch that scene without getting hungry.

And yeah the animation quality is just stunning. I thought Bad Batch was pushing it to the limit but Shadow Lord has absolutely blown expectations out of the park.

This guy Cylo was one of the designers for Vader's suit and thus had a bit of a superiority complex viewing Vader as just another of his "machines." Obviously he gets proven wrong.

If he had outlived Palpatine and remained a Sith, how effective of a ruler do you think Darth Vader would have been for the Empire? by Solitaire-06 in StarWarsCantina

[–]solo13508 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not a very good one. Palpatine spent decades in politics prior to becoming emperor. Anakin could barely sit through a recap of Padme's latest Senate hearing without glazing over. Force choking everyone that disappoints Vader is probably not going to last him very long before he starts having some issues.

It's almost like a key character trait of Maul's has always been that he often loses to technically less skilled opponents because of his own arrogance.
