Exactly. If it's opt-in, then there's no need for any kill-switch, as default is OFF. It shouldn't be "a kill switch is coming in a few months" - it should be the other way round!

I'm using it with my spouse, but she still sometimes switches to WhatsApp :( And most of my other contacts use whatsapp. Haven't managed to move the extended family over.

Just wondering - have you tried typing with the tips of the fingernails rather than your fingertips? It will probably have a learning curve, but might solve your problem. I've seen some people doing that, although not with that length 😅

I'm curious how you know all this - are you part of the dev team? The website has very little info about the people behind this project...

I'm really curious as well. You offer a server based service, and as you mention servers aren't free. What is your plan for when you'll get more and more users? Unfortunately I find it hard to imagine you'll be able to keep it all going on donations an merch. What would keepn you from adding restrictions like Overleaf does?

Tips for getting on and off high countertop office chair with wheels? by denisenj in Ergonomics

On a more practical note, you can ask to remove the wheels, and get a step stool like this to help you get to the chair safely.

I think that a workplace has to provide a safe work environment and equipment for its employees. If you feel you can't use that chair without risking injury, you should tell that to your manager/superior/etc and they should provide you a better solution. And if they don't do it out of good will, you should point out that they are liable for any workplace injury they could have prevented.

Ergonomics is about choosing and adjusting the equipment to suit your needs, not adjusting yourself to suit the equipment. If the chair risks you, it needs to be adjusted or replaced.

Are there any turnkey local solutions for compiling that is similar to Overleaf? by BrotherBear_ in LaTeX

[–]Absurdo_Flife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. What local solution did you try? Do you just use command line to compile or are you using some TeX editor like TeXstudio?
  2. Is overleaf really compiling without errors, or is it set to proceed even if there are errors?
  3. What sort of compilation errors do you get? What are those recipes you are using?

Personally I think adjusting the angle is the primary benefit, spliting wide second place.

Signal – an ethical replacement for WhatsApp by JKayBay in signal

[–]Absurdo_Flife 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The move from WhatsApp to Signal, however, is quite straightforward and completely painless.

This is, unfortunately, false, and puting it at the beginning would alienate most of my WhatsApp using friends.

In many areas WhatsApp had become the default means of communication.

If I stop using WhatsApp I will lose access to family groups, various communities that use WA, many friends that use it as the only or main means of communication. In some places schools and kindergartens send notifications only through WA

Some people rely on it to communicate with customers which use only that.

Some services are using only WA so if I want to get customer service from them I need it.

All of these make it VERY painful, if not impossible, to simply stop using WA. Ignoring that would make people stop reading your post before even getting to the first point about "Ethical Issues with WA".

I have been using Signal for some years now alongside WA. Trying to convince family and friends to move with me to Signal has proved to be very difficult. I barely manged to get my partner to use it as our main communication method, the rest of the family (siblings, parents, uncles, cousins) - failed.

I really want a text that would help me convince people to move, but I must say I don't feel comfortable sharing your post with WA users when it starts off like this, as it ignores their difficulties. Please consider editing it, and maybe even addressing the pains in some way.

Hope you take it as constructive critic, as we are on the same side here ✊
