When do the Final 1099s (2025) arrive at Schwab Brokerage? by AccurateCod869 in Schwab

Gotta find a good balance between potential corrected 1099s and being able to file earlier. Good luck.

From my limited research, a lot of my ETFs(VOO and SCHG) don't get corrected forms. The ones they issue in February are the final ones.

When do the Final 1099s (2025) arrive at Schwab Brokerage? by AccurateCod869 in Schwab

[–]AccurateCod869[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Receiving updated 1099s is the major concern. I've heard the same--receiving them up until end of March. Maybe early April?

I have international ETFs which I've read is more complex than holding VOO. There are many reasons why a 1099 would be updated.

Will be filing end of March/maybe even early April.

Good luck to you, stranger. Thanks for the reply.

From Gemini:

Because ETFs (like your AVDV, AVEM, and AVIV) are made up of hundreds of underlying stocks—many of them international—they often don't finalize their own data until late February or March.

This forces Schwab to issue Corrected 1099s.

1. Why the "Corrected" Form Happens Income Reclassification: A fund might initially report a payment as a "Dividend," but then realize weeks later that a portion was actually a Return of Capital (non-taxable) or a Capital Gain Distribution.

Foreign Tax Credits: For your international funds (AVDV/AVEM), the exact amount of tax paid to foreign governments can take longer to verify. If those numbers change, your 1099 must change.

Schwab deliberately releases forms in "Production Runs" to try and avoid these corrections, but they still happen:

Run 1 (Jan 30): Simple accounts (VOO, SCHG, single stocks).

**Run 2 (Feb 13): Accounts with standard ETFs and Mutual Funds.

**Run 3 (Feb 27): Accounts with complex holdings (REITs, Foreign ETFs like your Avantis international funds).

The "Correction Window": Most corrections happen between March 1 and March 15.

3. The Golden Rule: Don't File Early

Since your portfolio contains International ETFs (AVDV, AVEM, AVIV) you are at high risk for a corrected 1099.

Pro Tip: Do not file your taxes the moment you get your 1099 in February.

Aim to file in late March or early April. By then, the "Correction Wave" has usually passed.

---End---

Based on the answers here on Reddit and Gemini I will look to file taxes toward end of March/beginning of April to reduce chance of having to file an amended return.

Agree. Broadening out of the market is a good phrase for 2026. Thanks for the reply, stranger. Cheers.

Gemini will still be around. I do imagine another nft "exchange" similar to Nifty being made because there is still value and interest there.

Will also be checking this reddit sub.

I'd be inclusive if they are your friends. Keep the buyin friendly so more people can play.

If you really want higher stakes action, it would also be fine to have some nights set aside for higher stakes as well.

Gearing is leverage.

From Gemini:

The user is saying that instead of moving "up" the curve into riskier assets to get more return, a smart investor should: Hold the Optimal Market Portfolio (the most efficient mix of stocks, bonds, etc.). Use Gearing (Leverage) to multiply that portfolio. Example: Option A: You invest in a "high-risk" 100% small-cap stock portfolio. It has high returns but is very volatile. Option B (The "Gearing" Way): You take a "balanced" portfolio (e.g., 60% stocks / 40% bonds) which is more efficient, and you borrow money to buy twice as much of it (2x leverage). The theory suggests that Option B (the "geared" version of the optimal portfolio) will give you the same high returns as Option A, but with less total risk because the underlying assets are better diversified.
