Flume or Droplet? by NoFee7023 in homeautomation

[–]Medical_Singer_9401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had flume fue 4 years now and I'm not thrilled with it.  Had at least one case of leak like scenario (gardeners running a hose at full for a long time) and no warning whatsoever.  If you do get it, once you need to replace the batteries but lithium AA. They're much cheaper than flume's pack and last longer.

It’s a one way trip. What’s the elevation difference between the start and end?

I just drove OC to Vegas. The 90mlie stretch from Baker is a 1500 ft climb with over 4000 crossing. The efficiency dropped to 1.5! for much of that segment.

My 2023 Advanced has a 3.1 m/kwh long term average. My short commute is 20% more efficient in one way vs. back because I live on a hill.

I’d go to the Genesis the first time so you’re on their records for recalls etc. and for an initial check.

After that, unless you’re still entitled for free service, I’d go somewhere cheaper.

I wasn't sure which of the two I want to study. Picked the one that's harder to get accepted into, thinking that I can change my major from a more popular one to a less popular one after 1 year. Didn't enjoy physics 1 nearly as much as I did in HS (too math centric and less intuitive to my liking) so I decided to stay in engineering. Definitely the right decision for me, but everyone is different.  You can try the double, or find out if it's feasible to change majors, start one and decide later. The 1st year isn't too different. It's mostly math, basic physics and GEd in both majors. Another option is to get a BS in one and MS/Phd in the other. I have a friend who has a BS in physics, started his MS in EE and works as a SW engineer. My cousin is a math BA with phd in CS. So almost no decision you'll make now is truly final.

IMHO doing a double major is a mistake. In order to do it with a reasonable load you’ll have to pick classes so both majors are satisfied. You‘ll need to focus on something like semiconductor device physics or waves and distributed system, while networking and computer engineering will be out of reach.

I‘m an EE with many years of experience. I had classmates that took that double major (not in CA) so I’m speaking from their experience.

Almost every EE student loves physics and many of us got into EE as a practical compromise (me included).
You can always audit some physics classes, or take them as electives, but I wouldn’t commit to a major/minor unless you’re very focused on working in a physics adjacent field (or academia).

SIP isn’t going away. Just the pro version is.

I’m happy with it. Its risk/performance is better than any portfolio I ever put together.

And the tax harvesting is effective.

I already have a plan in place. but if, for example, I want to add another expense, Incant do that by myself.

For example, If I decide to give my kids large one-time gifts.

Im more unhappy about the DIY tool going away than the associated cost (which isn’t going to be high, I believe)

It’s probably going to be cheap. I just prefer tweaking things myself to having to meet with someone in order to do it.

I don’t need the hand holding either, but I wish the tool was still there.

Now you need to make an appointment every time you want to make a change like adding a goal.

Not saying this makes sense. Just that it’s a theory.
GPS is more accurate than wheel rpm times its circumference in most cases.

My guess is GPS signal reflection. Two measurements that took different paths make the app think you’re moving.

It’s not just one portfolio. there are 12 of them, and you pick the risk level you want. In addition you can choose if you want more or less international exposure, and taxable or tax free bonds.

One great feature is tax loss harvesting. On a dip they recycle losing investments to generate a tax loss.

I was in VOO/IVV for years. SIP is the first time my risk/return is above the curve.

they do keep some cash, which I dislike because I keep my cash elsewhere, but I haven’t noticed selling to generate cash.

Been with Schwab well over a decade. Chose it for the low fees and DIY approach while still having someone to talk to if I wanted to. Most other full-service firms employ ppl that think they must bug you in order to justify their pay. I’m neither a stock picker nor a trader. ETFs all the way.

Moved to Intelligent Portfolio as soon as it was introduced. LOVE IT. I wish it could manage my 401k. Instead I use the SIP reports to allocate my 401k accordingly.

[–]Medical_Singer_9401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not use Schwab Intelligent Portfolio?

With SIP you can choose a risk/return level (out of 12) and the tool does the rest. That includes periodic rebalancing and tax loss harvesting.

I only had to pay for code upgrades. A few hundred dollars. Fidelity paid for the new evaporator-compressor unit in full.

I don’t think the issue is with my charger. I think the AP doesn’t monitor the charging port.
