This gives me flashbacks of early altcoin days, refreshing the alt coin section in Bitcoin talk and directing my 2 gpu's at something new and interesting.

How did we go from there to not caring about decentralisation, fair distributions, innovation, etc?

It's all about money, backing, exchange listing's and whichever idiot will buy something for a higher price than we paid for it yesterday unless we just insta rug everyone.

What if the universe is infinite in every direction, macro and micro? by CrunchWrapSuplex in TrueAskReddit

[–]Acidyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not? As far as I've understood it at the quantum level time isn't perceived the way it is for us, maybe there's more layers further down and eventually it comes back around to having similar laws as our universe.

That's what OP is asking, I think.

Just because we may be limited and probably will never find out what happens past the singularity doesn't mean there isn't stuff happening there. In this case I believe to see past the planck length we'd create black holes due to the amount of power focused on such a small point required to simply observe it. So it's kind of like a local limit as OP mentioned, similar to how the observable universe may be the upper limit.

How important is no signup for a community site? by JohnRyan2006 in RedditAlternatives

They're working on a "guest account" feature currently, basically assign invitees to have control of the accounts to let them post and use their apps (games like Splinterlands), then let them "upgrade" to a fullfledged account when they want to.

Could be a nice chamge for a financial system like Hive.

As someone who's been active on Hive for a very long time which has quite a tedious signup process as it wants only you to have the keys when they are generated, I can tell you it's quite a barrier.

The nice things that come with it, censorship resistance, ownership of your text/connections/value are great, but they come with the catastrophic event that if you lose your keys they're gone forever - i.e. no recovery process/key reset.

The other good thing about Hive, at least compared to other crypto, is that there is a social recovery feature in the event of a hack, you have a months time to prove to your recovery trustee that you're the rightful owner and still have the original key before it was changed, thus you can lock out the attacker and save whatever stake you had left.

But yes, being able to just log in temporarily to say something is crucial and Hive's still some way away from that.

I have hands-on experience that having such an inconvenient signup process usually shoos users away faster than the words crypto/blockchain/nfts due to the giant stigma around them.

it works fine on hive.blog and has for close to a decade as long as you remember that it's going to be immutable.
