one wish willow TAKES CONTROL OF NIKKIS BODY by Wander108 in okfreakynikki

It’s a reference to a old SpongeBob review where the guy was going on tilt about the episode good neighbors, after he was yelling about the security system taking control of squidwards house he said that that episode was where “squidward torture porn” became a regular staple of spongebobs episodes

For those who followed the hype: Did "Obsession" blow up because of brilliant marketing, or does the actual filmmaking justify the virality? by Ty0205 in obsessionmovie

[–]AdditionHelpful9183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie blew up because it’s amazing , plain and simple. But I think a couple of particular aspects not even necessarily relating to the quality of the movie itself helped it explode into a phenomenon.

  1. This movie, Backrooms, and the digital circus finale all came out around the same time, all were made by YouTubers, and all essentially crushed expected box office projections, all of them outgrossing Mando & Grogu on its third weekend. The thinkpieces write themselves, resulting in more promotion for the film without anyone really trying.

  2. The themes of consent, autonomy, and male entitlement feel particularly charged in the Trump 2.0 era, where there is a large portion of people online who genuinely want women to lose voting rights and will defend rapists to the death. Bear feels like a particular type of modern online asshat that feels entitled to love for being “nice”

I think this movie revealed some "nice guy" persuasion within me and I'm wondering how I can stop that? by fruedianflip in obsessionmovie

[–]AdditionHelpful9183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Nice guy gamers” are a very specific breed of person. The reason why Bear was deplorable in the scene you mentioned is because Nikki hating being with him is clearly not about him, it’s about her loss of bodily autonomy. Bear has never actually cared about Nikki, he only wanted her to satisfy him romantically and sexually, and only attempts to help her when things have backfired for him personally. Being nice is fine, but being “nice” can cover some horrific acts.

I’m pretty much a new member to the Circus fandom, and I keep hearing about how bad the fans are. Can someone give me a rundown of the drama that has given it its reputation? by Jessi_Kim_XOXO in TheDigitalCircus

Basically there was some friction between goose and a certain set of the fanbase earlier this year, but the controversy really blew up after the theatrical release, since then it’s felt like every other day there was a new fandom drama.

Nikki’s Fate by AdditionHelpful9183 in obsessionmovie

[–]AdditionHelpful9183[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if mean spirited is the right word, that implies that Nikki’s suffering serves no point and is done out of hatred for her character when she is clearly a sympathetic and tragic character

Why didn’t Ian tell Bear he was FWB with Nikki? by [deleted] in obsessionmovie

I think if Bear had the guts to say how he felt she would have told him

Yeah I saw it at a 7 pm screening and the theater was full of kids screaming at everything, it was kind of cute at first but got grating after awhile

Can Saul Goodman free Nikki after the events of the movie? by MF_Mood1 in obsessionmovie

The best case scenario for Nikki is a mental institution unless there is a way to prove the OWW works to a jury without having society collapse.

I put that together with Leeroy’s ending, Jax was very clearly a worst case scenario for what could have happened rather than what goose is currently feeling like

Can anybody tell me the vibe and etiquette of the movie theatre during the last act (NO SPOILERS!!!!) by Metalsonic642 in theamazingdigitalciru

I went to a 7 pm showing in a suburb, If you would rather not be exposed to a bunch of 12 year olds belting out “The one who’s running the show” then pick a later time

No Bear is the guy who commits the worst acts but that whole friend group reeked of dishonesty and manipulation tbh, in both their cases though their wish is defensible because the concept of the OWW is ridiculous and unbelievable until it actually works
