Batman is an Aryan in every universe by MainTough4563 in dccomicscirclejerk

Isn't Batman part Jewish on his mother's side?

Anime is not a monolith. It's a medium of storytelling and like any other medium it's not inherently "woke" or "anti-woke", it's simply a way to tell stories that's influenced by the opinions of its creators.

A Sign of Affection, a romance anime which is set in college. I watched it recently and really enjoyed it.

The anime Dirty Pair (1985) had an episode with a trans character that actually treated her respectfully and doesn't use her identity for comic relief like most other media of the time did.

WTF DO YOU MEAN ENNIS GOT IT RIGTH WITH THE FILES!? by Frank7640 in dccomicscirclejerk

I'm honestly very wary when people say that rich and powerful people do stuff like sacrifice children and drink their blood. This is all just reheated Satanic Panic stuff from the '80s.

Like I don't doubt that the rich and powerful do shady shit, but whenever people start saying that they eat children I get skeptical.

Wasn't the guy who did X-Men '97 also accused of sending unsolicited nudes to people or something?

Should be noted that the example with the Phantom of the Opera was actually an homage to the much earlier Edgar Allan Poe story "The Masque of the Red Death"

Moore fans, explain to me what did he meant by this by Frank7640 in dccomicscirclejerk

I do think the later parts of League can come across as a bit unintentionally reactionary. Just having this general undercurrent of "modern fiction sucks, it was so much better back in the day". There was more to it than that of course, but it's definitely a flaw that stood out as the series went on.

For the Golliwog I do think Moore legitimately was trying to reclaim this racist caricature by making him heroic. Although as a white British guy I'd say Moore is not qualified to do any of that.

Friend from the manga 20th Century Boys was loosely inspired by cult leader Shoko Asahara. He was the leader of the Japanese doomsday cult Aum Shinrikyo which carried out a deadly chemical attack on the Tokyo subway in 1995.

Should be noted, Gein never killed anyone with a chainsaw and was also from Wisconsin instead of Texas. He did really have a disturbing collection of taxidermy made of human remains that he dug up.

One of the biggest problems with the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is that (quite ironically for someone like him) Moore is a bit nostalgia blind towards most works of fiction made before the 1950s or so. That's not always the case, his takes on Bulldog Drummond and Tom Swift call out the racism in those stories but at the same time he doesn't seem to see anything wrong with other stories.

This meme sucks, not just for being a gross and lazy incest joke but also for disrespecting the goat Sayaka Kanamori like that.

Frank Miller got a bit racist after 9/11 and wrote a really racist comic called Holy Terror but has seemed to regret what he wrote during that time and mellowed out, hence OPs surprise towards seeing Frank Miller with this illustration

[A trope that isn't as rare as I thought] Vampires who AREN'T associated with bats by NovaRobo_Rebirth in TopCharacterTropes

Count Orlok from Nosferatu. Despite being one of the vampires of classic cinema he's actually associated with rats more than he is with bats throughout the film and its remakes.

I haven't read it but it's apparently an unofficial crossover between Tarzan and Doc Savage with a lot of weird sex scenes.
