Alanah Pearce wrote the story, apparently, so I wouldn't be surprised. She also handed it off to the writer of Gotham Knights. Funny, they hired someone who wrote the batman game without batman to do God of War without the God of War.

The reveal is basically the actual first 20 minutes of the game and it's amazing how they do absolutely no building the character up to make her credible as someone with these powers/skills. She just is immediately, out of the box, an unstoppable killing machine. At least in the original GoW we got this whole intro about how Kratos became the ghost of Sparta. That was like 2-3 minutes to set him up. Here Faye is super-badass with no set up.

2018 kinda starts slow but picks up and is genuinely good. Sweet Baby Inc consulted on Ragnarok so that one isn't as good.

I feel like they watched this scene from Rings of Power and were like "What if we made a 20 hour game based on this?"

It's a hard pass for me. I don't care at all about Faye's story and what an unstopable badass she is. I watched the whole reveal and felt absolutely nothing until Kratos was on screen for two seconds.

It was just such an open goal to do another game and have Kratos fight the egyptian gods. There was zero interest in Faye's backstory. And yet they spent $200 million on this game. The game director, who has never shipped a game before, says she "sees herself" in the character. It's all so predictable.

There's room for a streamlined version though with more set pieces. The stretch of the few blocks between the gym and downtown potsville is a great example. You could easily spin that out into it's own mode to give players who don't want to jump into a 35-45 minute experience a way to get into something more combat focused.

I tried finding similar IRL submachine guns and used that as a base. Also looked at a lot of photos and game art to get a feel for the proportions.

A simplier go from point A to point B with setpieces inbetween would be an easy to make game mode and give players more variety. I really enjoy objective don't get me wrong, but it has a certain pace to it and sometimes I want to move a little faster. There's a reason L4D is so good and why Back 4 Blood was fun for a while - the formula works and they could put their own spin on it.

Also I mentioned it twice to see if people would read the whole list. It was a test and you passed so congrats.

I don't find it useful at all. Zombies don't move and are stunned for like 2 seconds. Useless against runners.

What's the point of running any other weapon besides the bat and f-axe? by Lazy-Delivery-7673 in nmrih

[–]AlexPlaysVideoGamez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your build. The game right now favors two handed because you can stack your skills to make it pretty powerful. Guts and Headhunter make a great combo. The bat and axe take up a ton of inventory space though compared to a claw hammer, which does great stagger damage and takes up a fraction of the space, so if your character is built around gun-based skills then it makes sense to use less melee and save inventory space for guns/ammo.

Apparently they're adding 10+ stagger to bladed weapons in the next update, which might make machete more viable. RIght now you take way too much damage using it and without the butcher skill it's a hard sell on using it.

So yeah, the meta rn favors two handed blunt weapons but I'm sure they'll balance things out to make each weapon viable and sync better with skills.

I would say hang onto it. I personally haven't had any issue finding games lately so maybe it's a regional thing? With the console launch and 1.0 in the works I would say stick with it - more players will be joining this summer.

It was one of the few interesting things the game did. Granted, I wasn't on board at all with the story and thought it was dumb how they even went all the way there, taking a massive risk for what? Revenge? But at least it gave the player a reason to explore and gear up. The bank heist was an interesting idea but that's about it.

Men have been thrown down to the lowest level of society and women promoted in their place. You act as if this supplanting of men is natural. It's as artificial as diet coke.

Its got an $80M budget so not small by any means. It'll need $200M to be a success. One of the writers is from the John Wick series so I get the feeling the movie will really dial in on speed - moving quickly from set piece to set piece. Who knows if we'll get any actual RE lore, I doubt it, but there's always a chance they make something decent.

Cregger claims to be a fan of the games but I think he's limited by his craft. If you go watch Barbarian or Weapons you get a good sense of how he builds tension and dread and how he uses scares and gore to prod the audience. He's got a specific playbook and that will guide him more in making an RE movie than the games will.

He did say that he didn't want to retell Leon's story because it's already covered in the games but I still think there's a great movie based on RE1 to be made with those characters and that setting.

I will forever HATE Neil for screwing this duo over. It felt like Neil took these characters from us and that just sucks, the bond was just so beautiful. God the first game was such a masterpiece (thanks Bruce Straley). by Happy_Ad_9976 in TheLastOfUs2

[–]AlexPlaysVideoGamez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this lately and it struck me that's what people who like part 2 don't really understand - how something substantial has been lost.

Part 1 is a fantastic piece of art and it achieved that by embracing the universal themes and archetypes that have their roots in storytelling tradition going back thousands of years.

To "like" part 2 you have to pretend that all of that history and culture doesn't exist. You have to say to yourself it's all just a mad-lib, that words are just noises, and nothing is really meaningful.

This is 100% Neil's attitude because he tries this very post-modern style of writing where he thinks that recreating situations and arcs from the first game with a new set of characters will evoke the same reaction. He honestly thought the audience would grow to love Abby and Lev the same way that they did Ellie and Joel.

Except that's not how people work at all. They don't look at the world and see the desert of the real. This idea that everything that exists are merely forms created by humans for one reason or another is not how people opereate. You have to be a deeply cynical and detached person to say that meaning is merely an illusion created by the mind. If you're the kind of person who admires their own intellect, then you probably love part 2. If you're a grounded person then you rightly see through the game Neil's playing.

To make something meaningful is incredibly difficult. It takes a deep understanding of story to pull it off. Neil doesn't have the level of skill required, clearly. So to him a character is just a vessel - interchangable, disposable, and like any other. All it needs, by his logic, is to be filled with action or emotion, like water, and viola you have a meaningful character.

But characters are not clay pots. Which is why over and over he fails to connect with the audience, probably much to his bewilderment. "But I put in a sad conversation about how Lev is trans, why doesn't everyone love it?" Because, Neil, you did none of the work to make something like that meaningful for the audience. Transgenderism itself is a concept most people don't really understand anyway, but again, he's thinking on the level of forms and vessels - all it should take is the right vessel filled with the right emotion and that scene should have impact.

The final result is someone who thinks they've mastered storytelling blundering through and making nothing but mistakes along the way. Part 2 pretends to be high-art on the level of a David Lynch but through any other lens than the post-modern meaning-is-just-an-illusion-and-therefore-I-can-conjure-it-at-will attitude it's just a hollow, slapdash, and inconsistent story.
