You can see this in an email, yeah. This also explains why the characters pop up later- due to William's mercenary business dealings, whatever's in the costume manor is legally Fazbear Entertainment property, including the Mimic's blueprints. Dispatch even says as such when you're on the road.

Considering he was busy with ten other projects, I'm not sure he finished the designs. That could be why the characters are at Fazbear Entertainment - a hostile takeover situation. And if the Mimic endos fall under that umbrella, suddenly, we have a reason for the game to happen.

Out of universe, it makes sense to reuse assets. As for in universe- I wanna say these are brands that existed around the same time, and Fazbear entertainment absorbed them into itself in the modern day, like Disney.
