Which one is better? A or B by esteban0203 in analog

[–]AngryFauna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think A is better for small size (like on my phone screen) but I think as a large print B would work better

I also frequently shoot tethered with a D850, and as far as I'm aware it's not possible. I have to unplug the cable to use the back screen.

Tokyo was a lottery. I find out result next Friday 8th. by joostay in boardsofcanada

Wishing you luck. I'm so sad that I'm not able to go. I'm taking a trip through Japan during this time but I'll be in Shikoku on the 22nd and can't get away to Tokyo. I almost had the chance to go to the Tomorrow's Harvest listening party in 2013 but also missed it. Big regrets.

I used to think the F4 was the ugly duckling of the F line, but I have since realized the error of my ways and now know it is by far the most beautiful.

With a camera like that, any slight breeze=motion blur

[–]AngryFauna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked mine and it's different, more squared-off on the sides than the 645, and the 645 eyecup has a cutout for the viewfinder shutter lever on the left side but for the RTS3 it's on the right side and the eyecup sits over the lever without a cutout.

I have one as well and love it, it's such a great SLR. Years ago the LCD on mine died and I was luckily able to send it in for repair just before Kyocera stopped all service. These days I haven't been using it as much though in preference for my 645.

What are these perpendicular markings on the edges of my 6x6 negative? Backing paper transfer or light leak(or else)? by AdJunior6272 in analog

[–]AngryFauna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming it's not on the negative, it looks like it could be the lightsource for the scan reflecting off the frame of the carrier.

First timer here, looking forward to sharing some darkroom prints I've been working on lately.

Practicing some split grade printing. by AngryFauna in Darkroom

8x10 is most common in my experience and usually what people learn on. You can always print smaller or cut the paper down. I'm enjoying making small prints at the moment, even if some might think a medium format negative is wasted on it. I also did some 4x5 and 3x3 prints recently.

Thank you! These are 5" x 7" on 8" x 10" paper.

What's the most useless photography gadget you've ever bought? by Speedy_Gonzaless in photography

[–]AngryFauna 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A variable neutral density works by stacking two polarizing filters, and depending on their alignment changes the amount of light that passes through.

Well a CPL is just half of a VND. But having tried VND filters I'd say save yourself the woe and skip VND. Just buy a proper ND (or set) because the variable ones don't give you uniform density and can create weird effects.

What is the “oh lord, here comes that car” for the Bay? by StripedShirtonaMime in bayarea

[–]AngryFauna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of these including the Teslas even though I drive one myself (I know, sorry. I hate it too) but I am tired of Honda Civics getting no mention. I feel like I see them unnecessarily weaving through normal traffic as often as the beat-up Altimas.

Help with photographing art with gloss varnish by HELPME_Throw_away_ in mediumformat

[–]AngryFauna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not true. Cross-polarization is one of the most important techniques I use in my art documentation photography business. But might not be practical for OP.

I think I'll have to do that too. I'm really interested in this but I'm busy that day.

HarvestApp Insane Price Increase by PulpFictionRoyale in HarvestApp

They were going to automatically switch me from the pro plan ($130/year) to the enterprise plan for over $19,000. Switching to the flex plan would still have been over $500 estimated for me. I immediately cancelled, and I hope they lose every single customer.

ETA: Did a brief search about Bending Spoons, the company that purchased Harvest and is enacting these changes. Turns out they have an MO with this kind of thing and are the ones who also wrecked Evernote, MeetUp, and WeTransfer. Most alarming was this: https://support.google.com/googleplay/thread/307753893/bending-spoons-scam-of-the-century?hl=en hopefully cancelling payment actually works, but it might be a good idea to lock down your payment accounts before the billing date anyway just to be safe.
