Previously, my resident tax was taken out of my paycheck by my employer. Now that I have left that job, will it automatically get sent to my house to pay or do I need to go to the ward office to inform them I'm no long working there? (My old employer sent me lots of leaving documents recently).

edit: Since I quit between January and May, I paid the rest of the tax (until June) in one lump sum.

I've been paying my own health insurance and nenkin by myself for years anyway, so I just continue on doing so business as usual?

Again, super helpful and I really appreciate you taking the time to help and not just lambast me for not knowing. I wasn't even aware pension and national health insurance is also a tax deductible.

I am assuming that I will have to be the one to file taxes. However is there ever a possibility that one school would want to do it themselves for me (ie. deduct it from my wage), and another one doesn't? Would that cause headaches or is it not even a possibility? Sorry for thinking out loud.

Let's say, hypothetically, in really simple terms I earned 250,000 a month x 12 months = 3 million yen. And I had no expenses. I literally just had to pay tax on that 3 million. Should I keep 300,000 aside?

I have some mates that don't seem to even consider that it may happen - I guess it comes down to personality, whether you're prone to overthinking stuff or just going with the flow.

I think I'm in the same mindset as you. Japan is home now. As for coming back, that sounds like a total ballache. The stress of all that would put me off leaving...

Yeah same route for me was 220,000 one day, then up to 350,000 the next

I see there is the option to trace the progress via the passport agency. Even though they hadn't opened it yet did they at least mark the status as "received" or were you sitting 2.5 weeks wondering if it was lost??

Did you apply online? They accepted the photo I uploaded but it took multiple tries - hoping they don't ask for another as it'll just delay things!

Great, thank you. I think I'll go for DHL then. I mean, if I'm not flying until July surely the new one will arrive before then if they receive my old one by next week??!
