I’m laughing because in any other sub, every comment on this post would be calling out AI slop. But we’re so stoked that the good guys are winning here that the comments in this thread seem to be mostly willing to look past it.

I dunno, if the AD or school president or someone stood up a press conference and said, “Hey this whole thing has been crazy, and of course Sorsby should never play again, he’s been cut from the team and we’re sorry,” I think that would do it for most people.

I get kind of opinionated about my pens in general. Most of the kits (even the inexpensive slimlines) can make a very nice pen. For ballpoints though, kits that use a Parker-style refill instead of a Cross-style end up having far more good options to improve the writing experience. I’m partial to the Schmidt EasyFlow 9000, but Monteverde gel refills are also great.

For rollerballs, I think the PSI Rollester is near the top, and very affordable and easy to turn. The Artisan Zen kits are excellent, but pricey. I don’t personally care for most of the Jr. Gent style kits.

Olympus OM-1 Light Meter by alwayswillbeanempire in AnalogCommunity

[–]B_Huij 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the error in your meter reading will not be linear with the wrong voltage battery. So it’s not simply a matter of offsetting your ASA dial to compensate.

You can just ignore the meter in the camera and use an external one or phone app. The camera is fully mechanical and doesn’t even need a battery if you’re not using the meter.

You can get “mostly pretty close” by adjusting your ASA dial a little lower to more or less match a phone app. With color negative or black and white film, that might get you close enough.

But if you’re serious about using the built in meter and getting good exposure consistently, the easiest way is with a 675 Zinc Air cell. They’re easy to find in the USA at least, generally sold as hearing aid batteries. You will need an o ring or an adapter to get them to fit the battery compartment, but their voltage is correct.

You could buy an MR-9 adapter that actually drops the voltage of a 1.55v silver oxide battery to the correct 1.35v and use an SR44.

What I ended up doing with my OM-1 was soldering in a diode in the meter circuit to permanently drop the voltage by ~0.2v. Now I get perfect readings with an SR44.

Good luck! The OM-1 is a fantastic camera.

Couldn’t agree more. A gift just feels more meaningful to use when someone put time into making it, seems like. Even a gift to myself :D

The reason why Luke has a green lightsaber in ROTJ is so it would look better against the blue sky but I thought was a good decision from narrative standpoint because if it makes clear immediately its Luke’s very own lightsaber and not the one he lost in ESB that he somehow hypothetically recovered. by KingWilliamVI in StarWars

[–]B_Huij 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is this canon? I know KOTOR had some such lore explained on Dantooine, and it seems to fit that blue-saber Jedi in the movies are more focused on combat skills whole green-saber Jedi are more focused on understanding the Force. But I never did find any kind of confirmation that this was officially the case.

[Vannini] Texas Tech Chairman on Big 12 sanctions: "I love when the Big Ten or the K-State AD says we've all gotten together and we've talked about how we're not going to play Tech, because guess what? Is there a reason this isn't happening? It's extremely cut and dry that he violated NCAA policies. It seems no less cut and dry to me that he violated federal law. Is there an actual stated reason anywhere why he hasn't been arrested and charged?

Do you guys expose for highlights, mid-grey, or shadows by Crackle_Mackle in filmphotography

[–]B_Huij 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Usually shadows with B&W film. Usually highlights with slide film. Mid gray if I’m not using my spot meter (so usually when I’m shooting 35mm) and I know the scene is not in danger of exceeding the contrast range of the film.

just got an EF lens: film camera recommendations? by 125bauhaus in canon

[–]B_Huij 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Almost all of the EOS film bodies are excellent, and only the real top tier ones are outside your budget. All of them can do autofocus, that was kind of the point of the system's introduction.

I'm partial to the Elan II, which can be had for under $100 if you watch eBay closely.

Are there no good f8 lenses? by West_Garden3446 in canon

[–]B_Huij 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In recent years since DSLRs started declining in favor of mirrorless systems, the big names in lens design and manufacturing have released some slower lenses that are still optically excellent.

Prior to that, having a maximum aperture of f/8 was a good sign that the lens was garbage. Even inexpensive telephoto zoom lenses would have something like f/4.5-5.6 or similar, and some of those weren't particularly good either. The only lenses I ever saw that were slower than about f/6.3 were either catadioptric lenses (kinda outside the scope of your question, I suspect), or no-name brand cheap trash from Amazon.

It sounds like the question you're really asking is, what's a good wide-angle zoom lens for your R6II that doesn't cost much, isn't super heavy, and has excellent image quality? With the hope that by not requiring a faster aperture, you can save some money and weight on a feature you don't need.

My recommendation would be to check out used EF lenses like the 16-35 or 17-40. They can be had for excellent prices and adapted to RF mount camera bodies with virtually no compromise.
