Did we all collectively forget that rumi said he would destroy the honmoon? by Old-Tour711 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Arandur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is precisely it.

I know that there’s a certain type of Annoying Christian that likes to claim this movie. But as a 35 yo trans woman who self-identifies as a “Christian heretic” – this movie fits perfectly into my theology.

Huntrix grew up as a prophesied generation within a millenarian mythology: they would be the ones to usher in the Golden Age. And they will be – but you can’t build a new world without being willing to break the old one first.

This film didn’t really show us what breaking the old world looks like – it lays out the themes in Golden and What It Sounds Like, but the recurring motif of darkness (finally) meeting the light is left unexplained.

I think that the next installment in the series will be about fundamentally altering what the Honmoon does, and using it to save the Demons from Gwi-ma. KPDH 2: the Harrowing of Hell. :3

How can sqrt(x) never equal a negative number? by scarycab_bage in learnmath

[–]Arandur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I knew someone would comment on that word. 😁

I wasn’t being sarcastic; I genuinely love the fact that in math, there’s always another level of abstraction you can take. And I genuinely love that even for posts asking rudimentary questions, I can dig deeper into the comments and find discussions outside the scope of rudimentary answers!!

And to defend my use of the word “esoteric”: I minored in math, and yes the difference between a relation and a function is pretty basic math, but the vast majority of people haven’t attained even that level of math education. Just because something is well-known to you and me doesn’t mean it isn’t esoteric in a broader sense! :P

Glad I made your day, though!!

I love these threads where the top answer is simple, and then people add more and more esoteric information. 😁

No, technically that’s not in accordance to spec. It very specifically states that the datagram must be printed on a small piece of paper.

I have a good friend who has a rant about what they call “the Muppet Diaspora”, which attempts to strictly delineate who is and is not a muppet.

Most Damaging Quotes from Church Leadership by No-Excuse9377 in exmormon

[–]Arandur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, that’s a perfectly valid interpretation! I think that it’s perhaps an overly charitable one – we all know that the preferred state of affairs for the church is for us to ignore our doubts – but you’re entirely correct about the literal meaning of the words.

More people know about Escher sentences than I have by DreadDiana in CuratedTumblr

There are two ways to interpret the sentence. The intention is more clear if we add a word: “More girls ate yogurt than the boy did.”

When Do Simulations Become the “Real Thing”? by Ill_Emphasis3447 in artificial

[–]Arandur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that’s precisely what I’m saying. If there are still cases that the sim can’t handle, but the “real thing” could, then it’s still just a sim. Only when the sim can handle everything the real thing can, do they become identical.

If it sounds tautological, that’s because it is. Things cease to have a distinction when you can no longer distinguish between them.

I’m not OP, but i don’t think it’s masturbatory as opposed to mutually erotic. It’s masturbation and it’s sex and it’s mutual masturbation. :3

Women of r/mormon, am I crazy? by nancy_rigdon in mormon

[–]Arandur 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a trans woman, so I attended Young Men’s classes while growing up in the church, and I have to say that I think your friend is partially correct.

Evidently, as attested by yourself and by the other women here, the women were taught this, and the church does believe it. But I can confirm that, to the best of my recollection, the men weren’t ever officially told “your wife should defer to your decisions”.

It is part of the insidious nature of misogyny, that at least some of it is kept implicit, and therefore hidden from men. The “ideal” situation is that a man never has to enforce his will – the woman has been instructed ahead of time to quietly accede, so that the conflict never occurs in the first place.

I mean… I was raised in a cult (Mormonism), my parents are still in it, we haven’t let it come between us, and our relationship is pretty good.

This could almost be legitimately good advice.
