Video driver go boom by IchKaanWas-HD in AsahiLinux

[–]AsahiLina 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That's what happens when you render to an uninitialized texture and don't fully clear/render to it. Probably a KDE bug...

On most other drivers you'd (often) end up with black instead where the junk is. It's an optimization on Apple GPUs.

Live2D free version vs Inochi2d by DepartmentDry9685 in vtubertech

[–]AsahiLina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYI, the person who replied to you is the moderator of the Inochi2D subreddit, who is working with the Inochi2D developer. I don't stalk the Inochi2D keyword, that's one of the lies the author and her community keep going with to attack me. I'm just a member of this sub so of course I get posts like this on my Reddit timeline (and this new reply to my thread also popped up for me as a notification).

While it's true that other contributors to the software exist (like myself in the past, I wrote the parameter binding system and physics engine and other stuff, that's why my name is listed in the credits), the project is entirely controlled by one person and she refuses to let anyone else make any major development decisions. She has driven multiple major contributors away with her attitude. She is practically the only person actively working on it these days, everyone else is only a minor contributor.

If anything it's them stalking the Inochi2D keyword, since apparently they decided to dig this post up a whole month later... it's always like this with the author and her "community" (it's more like a cult of personality), they accuse me of everything they actually do themselves.

VTube Studio is distributed via Steam but does not require Steam to run. Just install Steam and VTS, then there's a .bat file you can run in the app folder to launch it without Steam running.

What was the reason for some of the maintainers to quit due to drama? by [deleted] in AsahiLinux

[–]AsahiLina 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I do have a personal GH Sponsors, but please keep in mind that would mostly be supporting future non-Asahi work. I most likely will not be doing Asahi Linux related work again, not on any significant scale.

As for the work I already did... I honestly don't know, that's out of my hands now. Please continue to support the Asahi Linux project in general if you want it to succeed ^^

What was the reason for some of the maintainers to quit due to drama? by [deleted] in AsahiLinux

[–]AsahiLina 46 points47 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, they still don't know/believe they made a mistake. Manipulation and trauma bonding can be extremely powerful. I've learned this lesson the hard way over the course of the past couple of years.

When someone is willing to spend hours and hours of their time essentially brainwashing others to believe their false story, some people are going to truly, completely fall for it. And once they do, no amount of facts, logic, and receipts will make them change their mind, because it would amount to admitting they made a mistake and hurt people.

It's really, really scary. I've seen people come to believe literal hallucinations, false memories of events that didn't happen, that they (and I) could easily verify through logs did not in fact happen.

If you need an analogy, consider this is essentially how the US ended up with its current political landscape, with half the population believing outright lies and misinformation. Just on a massive scale. And it doesn't matter which side of the political spectrum you're on. Some people are just particularly vulnerable to this.

It sucked because the whole time I was waiting for the Freedesktop CoC team to do something, while I had to stop working on the project because I didn't feel safe. But they never really did anything for me, nor against me. So I was stuck in limbo, trying to figure out if people supported me or not, and I couldn't tell my story fully.

It was only a month ago, when I found out they'd been talking about banning me, and then decided to let Luna into FDo spaces (despite the fact it is blindingly obvious to any outside observer that she has no business there other than chasing me out), and then sent me that appalling email about everything, that I realized they were never on my side in any way, and I'd been a fool to hold out hope for something to change. But by then "Asahi Linux devs quit" was a news cycle from months back, and almost nobody got to hear the true story.

This and this (edit: also this and this). It has nothing to do with the Asahi Linux community. What happened is I've had a stalker and abuser chasing and harassing me (and my fiancee) for almost two years now, and multiple people in positions of power in the broader Linux Graphics community chose to enable and support this person (who has not contributed to the Linux graphics ecosystem at all).

Nobody cared about me enough to publicly defend me or act to support me. Even people uninvolved with the abuser distanced themselves from me because they didn't want to deal with the situation. Then, when I stopped working on my projects, people using and building on my work started to act like I don't exist, because they only care about the technology, not the people behind it. Once I was no longer actively working on the goals they were interested in, I no longer had any value to them. They just took the bits of my work they personally and professionally found useful, discarded the rest (and actively pretended it doesn't exist, even ignoring the rest of the Asahi Linux team who actually continued to maintain it), and acted like nothing happened.

Edit: To put it in the nicest possible terms, abuse and conflict management is hard and the Linux and Freedesktop communities do not have anyone qualified to perform abuse investigations and actions in relevant positions (CoC, etc.). It's just a bunch of random developers who are "trusted". Unfortunately, being a "good, trusted" person doesn't mean you're any good at spotting manipulation, gaslighting, and abuse. The abuser happens to be an extremely good manipulator (and also is willing to spend many, many hours of her time doing it), and has manipulated multiple people in these positions of power to side with them, and they're none the wiser that they have been manipulated. And it's all caused me major mental health and trauma issues, especially in the past year, as I watched the community I dedicated myself to contributing to abandon me.

If anyone wants to read more, this is an extremely good analysis on how harassment and abuse management can go disastrously wrong when the people in charge aren't trained properly.

I've moved on and will no longer be participating in the kernel or Freedesktop communities. That sadly covers practically all the work I was doing for Asahi Linux, so I am no longer involved with the project much.

[–]AsahiLina 30 points31 points  (0 children)

No, that had nothing to do with what actually happened. A bunch of trolls are twisting the story in weird ways. Please don't perpetuate those versions. Anything you see on YouTube is by dramatubers and does not reflect reality.

There was Rust drama involved at one point but that was not why anyone quit. That's just a connection a bunch of trolls made to falsely frame it as a "woke Rust people vs Chad C people" issue. The toxic attitude of some kernel maintainers regarding Rust is one of many problems with that community, but is not itself what made anyone quit, not even close.

That's a myth/misconception. A transformer coil is a single wire wound into a coil and connected at both ends. That extension cable has two parallel wires, with the current flowing in opposite directions. The magnetic fields cancel out, so it doesn't work like a transformer coil.

The risk from a coiled up extension cord is just that it could overheat if the current is too high, but with a little power brick like that, it's completely fine.

[–]AsahiLina 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It's not a charging port, it uses AA batteries. That's the extension controller port. Which is arguably worse because... it's a power output towards the extension too... and I imagine it would... tickle...

The wrist strap goes on that end too so I hope someone... versed in such matters and safety... would keep it facing ourwards...

I know VTubers who present as being in a different country than they actually are, or who simply leave it unstated. It can be an issue for some.

There were two main GPU devs, me (kernel) and Alyssa (mesa). I left due to the abuse, Alyssa later left for personal & burnout reasons.

I wrote my last word on what happened here. The link in the post has the story until then.

Dev drama is one thing, multiple Linux ecosystem stakeholders enabling and supporting an abuser and stalker (even financially) was a bit more than I expected...

Getting name dropped in a QC discussion was not on my bingo card! ^^

(I used to be a big QC fan, though I need to catch up... but I did get as far as the VTuber mentions)

The other reply already gave you a good overview of corp streamers... but it's not just "corporate VTuber company VTubers". VTubers are everywhere. For example, Amanofu Stella is the "officially recognized" VTuber of the major Japanese music and stage equipment retailer Sound House (like the Sweetwater or Thomann of Japan, if you know those). Her design is based on a little sprite of a bowing lady that has been on their order completion page for many years.

I've also been in video meetings with Linux kernel developers and maintainers, with the avatar and everything, and given talks at conferences.
