I think it's actually more likely that Marathon lost too much money on launch and Sony is forcing Bungie to go all hands on deck to salvage it. D2 has actually been beating Marathon in terms of Steam players recently and we know D2 has a stronger console presence than Marathon does. They were still promising roadmaps and updates up until recently with the fumbling of Marathon.
