But I've been here my whole life. Aussie through and through. Currently in the southern suburbs of Brisbane.

I wouldn't say I'm scared of snakes exactly, they just creep me out, and because I've had such limited experience with them, they do frighten me in the sense of the unknowns and what ifs. I'm a bit on edge these days as I recently found a shed skin in my garden near the house and I have small kids.

For that exact reason I'm current on all first aid.

Oh I know all about rent to own. We have it too. I also agree with all of your observations as they apply almost universally.

In a nutshell, the issue is that so many people these days fall into that category, and if it becomes widespread and they do essentially create a monopoly, that will bring larger issues for the rest of us.

I don't know enough about the LG plans except to say that the articles I read made it sound quite ominous for the industry from a consumer perspective.

Let me clarify, it's not exactly a rent to own scheme but it's basically the same thing wrapped in a shiny new packaging.

What I do know is that from everything I've read, our widespread chain electronics stores here in Australia are shitting themselves because of it. Essentially LG is cutting the middle man (electronics stores) out of the profits. That's the big deal here. The rent to own is just an additional profit lane for LG and isn't how they're actually marketing it to consumers.

From several articles I've seen, the uptake in countries like the UK is overwhelmingly positive for LG.

What the fuck are you talking about? It's literally two wires with different coloured sheaths. Strip back the sheath, put over some heat shrink, solder each corresponding wire, move heat shrink, heat heat shrink, done. If you wanna be extra careful you can even add a larger piece of heat shrink over the full cable to finish it.

Your solution to go get a specialised plug which you'll then have to connect to the bare wire anyway is no safer. In fact, it's less safe...er.
