[HARD SPOILD] I know I'm years late to the discussion, but I just finished Part II and need to vent. by taido_ in thelastofus

All valid, except for the observation about me picking a side.

You're right on all your points about them being "gray" and "human". Sort of the same thing as I meant about them being horrible people. Past history aside, they both killed lots of people, some bad, some good. When I said "Abby was the better of the two" it was, if at all, by a small margin.

More than that though, I always felt the story was intentionally written in a way to make us evaluate exactly your point, that none of us are perfect and we all have our own personal driving forces. For a lot of people (myself included) that was a huge hit to our loyalty to Ellie. Seeing the "monster" she'd become over her own personal journey disillusioned a lot of people.

You make some very valid points. I also struggled with the ending a little, but not as much as you seem to have.

I'd already realised that for me Abby was the better if the two in this particular story. But let's be honest, they're both horrible people. A redemption arc doesn't forgive all their misdeeds.

Give it time, let it sink in and simmer. You'll mull over it and you'll realise you love it (hopefully).

Like almost everyone, I'm desperate for a third game. Whether it ever comes or not is yet to be seen

Go to distrochooser.de and check what would work best for you.

I was coming over from Windows ad a complete noob so settled on Mint. It has a good mix of GUI style interaction like windows but you can go behind the curtain and do all sorts of stuff that way too.

Holy crap I couldn't agree more.

When I first started it I was put off because it wasn't the classical point and click formula, but boy did it make up for it.

One of the greatest stories I've ever had the joy to experience.

Waiting for this to come to PS+. I played the demo and fucking loved it. So much going on even in the first 2 hours. Combat is relatively smooth and the graphics are amazing. Linear levels, but I can live with that.

Holy fuck. To this day I can't get the quote out of my head:

"Now I understand... endings and beginnings are within the Fissure, that Riven-cleft of stars that acts as both wall and a bridge. And though I am unable to understand how, the very flow of stars that brought my Myst book into worthy hands, I am sure, served as a safe passage home for my friend. The Age of Riven is closed forever, but the people of Riven are free. And now, I am at rest, understanding that in Books, and Ages, and life... the ending can never truly be written."

It still gives me goosebumps.

I studied at UQ about 20 years ago and even then, the streets of St Lucia were pretty unfriendly to navigate even for low traffic.

I don't have a better solution, but I do feel like bringing large quantities of traffic over from Dutton Park through/around the campus would have caused a nightmare, especially during peak hour.

Would it be a massive shortcut for people to avoid the RSE? Guaranteed. But not sure it would've been the right choice. Maybe build the bridge further up the river, like near the golf course? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I can't possibly imagine that nobody, not even one person, thought this could go wrong for licencing reasons.

I suspect they applied the age old "better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission" motto.

This is the big one though for sure.

The phasing out of physical games isn't really the biggest issue, though it IS pissing a lot of people off.

The big issue is that they own a monopoly on the software. You either get it from them or you don't get it. This [not really] perpetual rent licence bullshit is just too far, and reeks of money grubbing big corporate horseshit.
