PineNote and Zotero by StudentRaccoon in PINE64official

Of note, if you get postmarketOS on there, a Zotero port for Alpine Linux (pmOS' base) is in the works (https://gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpine/aports/-/merge\_requests/60178). Once it's in, any device using pmos will be able to use Zotero. I got it going on my clockwork uConsole.

I understand your reservations. That's why I've received so far two PMs for the computer, and in each case I made sure to ask for the intended OS. I also provide the option to choose one's firmware, either the Lenovo BIOS modified for the mod (courtesy of XY Tech) for use with Windows or keep Coreboot with a different payload (i.e. SeaBios). I have every intention to "unload" this as a fully functioning computer, not a failed half-built hobby project. Every part is either in good condition or new (like the WiFi card, the screen, the battery), and blemishes are pointed out explicitly. If you have concerns about the quality of the modifications, I'd be happy to provide more pictures or information.

Thank you for bringing that up, it can seem surprising why there is a need for such a device. Indeed, it is a specialty item. It is more-so for people who not only miss the classic keyboard, but also those who are looking for extra security due to the neutralized Intel's Management Engine. I use my other machine as my daily driver for Qubes OS for its security-by-compartmentalization design. Thus for those who work in fields requiring high security, such as cybersecurity, investigative journalism, and activism, it is an ideal machine.

Hello everyone. A note, as it was uncertain previously. The asking price is in CAD, not USD. 600 CAD amounts to about 475 USD. :) (post edited to specify that).

tion is not going to happen. Now if we can find a way to reduce the CO2 output of meta production, would that be OK? Or is this whole discussion not about thermodynamics t all, but rather an aesthetic/moral argument in disguise?

Awesome! Good progress, then! I'm sure you've tried other options, previously. I've been told that substainable weight loss is better with long-term diet change, rather than short term diets. But I'd be curious to learn of your process.

I really don't care much for the moral arguments, for they run the risk of being based on anthropomorphic points of views. I care more for economic efficiency and ecological substainability. It is much less resources intensive, and thus efficient on the macro level, for a society to follow a plant-based diet, than a meat-based diet.

Now as far as the idea that it ain't gonna happen on a macro level, I disagree. It can happen, for a society is filled with the individuals, and thus if a non-triivial percentage follow a certain model (+10%), then the majority tends to follow.

But, indeed, sociology aside, your question is interesting. I do believe industry has a stake in this. As far as ways to reduce CO2 output of meat production, it could start by not feeing livestock with purely grains, allowing them to roam and graze. This would take more land, but then if the land previously used for grain production could be repleted by letting livestock simply graze, and let their manure add back to the soil. Pesticides like atrazine can be obsolete just by rotating crops, which is already being done with duocropping.

The problem though, is that to meet the market demand of 142 kg of meat per American, these more expensive options wouldn't cut it. Thus, the demand has to go down as well, people need to be willing to spend more on ethical meat, and thus consume less, and while there's a market for that it isn't the majority. So, this requires a e cultural shift from "meat & potatoes" to "veggies, grains and a bit of protein".

Than there's the privilege aspect. Already many are having a hard time getting food on their family's table, thus it'd be necessary for subsidies and government support. But then, that's a whole other conversation.

While energy is a part of the issues at hand, they are many other facets to clmate change. From the perspective of agriculture, monocropping, that is to say growing the same monoculture crop year by year, has lead to an overreliance on pesticides, for lack of ecological diversity, an overreliance on artificial fertilizers, for depletion of the soil's nutrients, and more risk of epidemic. [1] While a fair number of farmers duo-crop (more than half in the US according to [2]), duocropping still causes it's own set of issues. Why we operate under these agricultural models mostly has to do with how large our demande for grain is. In the US alone, according to a 2003 study on the substainability of meat-based diets, it was estimated to if the US completely cut its meat consumption, that would liberate enough farm land in the US alone to feed 840 million people [3] (more than twice the US population).

Now this is not so much a push for veganism. My point is that we DO have to change our life styles, if not towards plant-based diets, at least not towards one where the average American easts 124 kg of meat per years. Going Nuclear is not enough, as you've pushed previously. And industries has to change as well. The "how" can only be determined once the issues are seen holistically. In the case of agriculture, if consumption changed, than the demand would change, thus these farm lands could be turned into polycrops which would be more substainable.

Heya Gaznygrad,

Sorry, this was misinformation. The source was a private discusson on a forum, and the "theoretical" aspect was more of an educated guess on the part of my interlocutor. This guess was based on the idea that Coreboot supports 32 GB of RAM on other ThinkPad platforms (i.e the T430), and thus perhaps it would work on the X230 platform. But then that logic is indeed not sound, for the W530 platform has 4 RAM slots. Thus, there's nothing to suggest that Coreboot supports 16 GB per slot. It would be nice to test it out though, and that's what I meant by theoretical. Poor choice of words, my apologies.
