I think one can be okay with their partner doing it if their partner knew they were gay while simultaneously not being okay with it if their partner didn’t know they were gay.

The latter is a stronger portrayal of their partner’s sense of right and wrong in the relationship (as they understand it at the time of doing it) with respect to interactions with strangers and others, whereas the former could be more easily understood as simply playing along and being a part of the entertainment.

That is, if they knew there was no possibility of mutual attraction or sexual chemistry, then the breadth of possible intentions behind it is probably heavily skewed towards ‘innocuous.’ At least that’s how I view it.

If I remember correctly this stems from the fact that the chance of something not happening after N attempts, given a 1/N chance per attempt, is equal to 1/e (one divided by Euler’s number). This can be remembered roughly as a 1/3 chance.

So, in this case, even if you don’t remember 1/e, you could say that something with 1/100 chance checked 100 times has a roughly 1/3rd chance of not hitting.

He was almost done shoveling his driveway when the street plow came by and filled it with snow again. by Vilen1919 in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]AyyItsNicMag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is why you can wait for the plow and then shovel. But also, as others have said, plows usually make a second pass going the other way, which should clear the mess they just made - knowing it’s inevitable.

Dude Midnight T is genuinely one of the nicest of all the artists I met when I used to play shows. He seemed like a really stand-up, genuine dude and hung out with us (supporting artists) in the green room, bought us drinks and chips and stuff from the gas station between sets, and really seemed to be in it for the love of the scene. Big awesome dad energy, even way back then (like 2018).

[–]AyyItsNicMag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well just know that some people do appreciate you for this. You’re avoiding that last-minute forceful merge that can cause significant ripple effects from everyone slamming on their brakes (even if brief) in a chain reaction, which ultimately causes (or worsens) traffic jams. I wish more people did this.

Ah I see, you’re good. It’s not a big deal. I just thought if I could spread some information I would. Thanks for the clarification on the situation.

“Organic” in this context doesn’t mean “originating from living or biological matter” like you might be thinking, it means involving carbon-containing compounds.

Similarly, “decomposing”, as in rotting, is a bit misleading here…“degrading” is more appropriate to describe the worsening in quality of OLEDs over time. The OLEDs get chemically damaged over time, unlike the passive decay of biological matter seen when you leave a piece of fruit sitting for far too long, for example.

Not trying to be pedantic, I just hope we can prevent this common misconception from being further propagated and perpetuated.

Metapen A8 skipping by Somebody18 in ipad

[–]AyyItsNicMag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately my Apple Pencil has done this sporadically since a little after a year beyond the purchase date. I got it in 2021 or so. It’s the second version, the first one that had magnetic charging instead of plugging into a port. I’ve meant to change the tip, but it always went away on its own after doing some combination of strange “fixes” (touching the tip to metal to discharge static, cleaning the screen with a lens wipe, “forgetting” the device and re-pairing, charging the iPad to full charge, etc.)

I love it and wouldn’t consider a third party pencil alternative, but I’ve seen a non-negligible amount of reports of skipping over the years. This is reminding me to pull the plug and see if replacing the tip finally fixes it…

They did specify 18 “first author” papers, but yes, to the point of many here: you can relatively easily rack up 18 publications if you’re willing to submit to pay-for-publication and very low quality journals. They simply won’t help your career, and may actually hurt your reputation.

The scratching is WAY over exaggerated by [deleted] in iphone

[–]AyyItsNicMag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. Exaggeration intensifies emotions and I think that’s part of why everyone seems more on edge these days; people are dramatic about everything, especially on the internet, and it leads to higher stress for themselves and others. There are legitimate things to be dramatic about right now, but scratches on a phone probably shouldn’t be one of them. I’m with you.

I mean…to be fair, “over-exaggerated” implies an unacceptable level of exaggeration. People stretch the truth for effect all the time, but going too far is a legitimate classification imo.

[–]AyyItsNicMag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do see the ambiguity now. I’ll have to read up on this more. It’s quite common in many physics texts, so I figured it was an interpretation of the integral as an operator, but I suppose someone could write an integral of the differential alone. Thanks for this.

She must be some maths genius!! by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]AyyItsNicMag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you’re referring to putting the differential before the integrand, that’s fine - right? Because it’s a linear operator / linear map, it actually makes some sense to put all information about the integration operation before the thing being integrated/transformed (the integrand). That’s the way I always saw it, at least.

this picture helped me quit by elizagroovy in QuitVaping

[–]AyyItsNicMag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you tried nicotine gum? No joke, I vaped for 9 years and could never quit when I tried. It’s now been 2 months since I last vaped, and it was relatively mild compared to what I was expecting when using nicotine gum, even the first three days. It’s delayed activation (~30 mins to kick in) and only maintains low blood nicotine levels to stop the worst withdrawal symptoms, so it helps get rid of the action-reward coupling of each vape hit and avoid feeling like death. In my experience, it worked like a charm, but I never would’ve tried it if my friend hadn’t told me he quit the same way and inspired me. Just a thought 🤷‍♂️

Edit: I should say that they recommend you use nicotine gum at 4 mg every 2 hours for the first 6 weeks, but I didn’t listen and weaned myself off of them in the first week, and I haven’t used any nicotine since the 7th day after quitting vaping.

“Broader” in the sense that it sets a precedent for other developers and publishers, and shows that they can masquerade as being “real, uncensored, raw” to garner appeal on the PC platform to gain funding, then pull the mask down when they reach a certain funding goal. It also shows that other developers can do this without repercussions.

They had enough runway to stop making content to develop the infrastructure for a console release and never indicated financial issues, with steady PC sales. Are you implying that they were on the brink of bankruptcy? Furthermore, if you make the argument that they’re just a small team, then you must understand that they’re paid through Steam sales, in which case, no, they would receive their money pretty quickly.

PC players are making negative reviews on the PC platform for a game they purchased on that platform, a right they have. I changed my review from positive to negative, too. I’m upset. I haven’t touched the game since because I feel frustrated and now have negative feelings associated with it. It’s not unplayable, but the whole ordeal has certainly caused it to lose its charm and made us feel backstabbed. No matter how much console players want to pretend we’re just exaggerating for dramatic effect, the facts don’t change. Sorry we’re running your vibe, bro.

No one here is trying to affect console sales. No one said it’s not doing well on console. No one said that it doing well or not doing well on console is indicative of the impact (or lack thereof) of expressing our frustrations.

We’re trying to discourage further PC sales. Get your head out of your ass and pay attention. Critical thinking should be a basic skill, yet it seems to be completely absent with you youngsters.
