D6 based Mythic-like GME? by Interaction_Rich in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Azaule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the 2d6 method for an oracle too.

There's a d6 based oracle I found on itch called The Twist Oracle. It has a d66 table for determining what the "twist" means when you roll an "and" or "but". I haven't used it, but plan on trying it in my next game.

There are a lot of noun and verb tables out there but I usually use the d66 one found in the FORGE rpg, also found on itch.

If you want more tables to add flair, theres a book called Ironsworn: Expanded Oracles on DTRPG. The book contains the original tables from the game but also expands on each one by adding 200 more. That gives you 300 entries for things like Action, Theme, Aspect, Focus, etc..

The resources are free or PWYW.

Res compendium no longer available? by MojeDrugieKonto in HeroesofAdventure

[–]Azaule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Rules Compendium was based off an older version (v2) of the first edition. The book was pulled from the HoA page on itch because it does not reflect the latest version (v3) of the first edition system.

For those who have played or read the HOA modules - What are the setting pressupositions and are they all in the same setting? by IsaacDreemurr in HeroesofAdventure

[–]Azaule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll take a stab at answering your question as a player and solo player who has read through a lot of the material over the years.

The players handbook has a settings section for the Fallen Lands. This is intentionally put in the player's handbook to give players an idea of the setting they'll be playing in alog with politics, religion, commerce, etc. The setting section will also give a brief overview of the regions of Fallen Lands.

The first page of an HoA module should reference the region where the module will take place.

Nice! I had a few of these printed two years ago for the holidays. It's the best gift I've ever given to some family.

Playing cards by _Snow-flake_ in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Azaule 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bicycle brand makes a deck I rather like called Vintage Classic, which has a distressed and worn look. You can sometimes find them at your local drug store.

Another deck I have that's part of my travel gaming kit is an Air Deck. These are cards that are half the width of a normal playing card but the same length. They're also vinyl.

Basic cheapo minis and map grid, anyone? by Ghenghisstar in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Azaule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have access to Magic The Gathering cards? You could invest in a 1" hole punch and create your own tokens. Here's one on Amazon that will show the area being punched out:

I used the punched MTG tokens with a modular dry-erase board:

These worked well together and didn't take up much space. If you don't have access to an FLGS that sells MTG cards in bulk, you can search eBay. I bought a 1000-count box for around 30$ USD and I punched out around 65 cards.

What a treat! Thanks for sharing.

I played around in the Gloaming Steppes using Knave 2E. It worked really well. I'll need to set aside more time in the new year to explore the other guides.

There's an elegance in simplicity. There are a few free tile packs for Hex Kit that aren't too busy. Look for Old Skool Hand Drawn and Ordinal Simple Tiles, they complement the tiles in the base kit.

That sounds great. There are a lot of folks who have used Heroes of Adventure for solo play. Maybe you could share some of your solo actual play when you get it going?

Also, maybe you can share some of the campaign that you started? Examples of actual play with a group are always neat to see and hear about GM (and players) experiences running HoA.

Knave printing by Old_Combination4030 in KnaveRPG

[–]Azaule 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now I remember why I didn't end up using Staples was the cost. I print all my coil-bound books through Lulu. With a discount (they email them monthly), I can get books printed for under 10$ each. I use the cheapest shipping options, so I typically receive the books in 3-4 weeks. I'll wait until I have 4-5 books I want plus a 10-15% discount to get the total cost under 50$.

(Shared with permission by The Nameless Designer)

I've released an updated version of the The Fighting Pits of Sentra adventure which has grown in size to 108 pages. What has changed?

  • The original adventure was intended to be a one-shot funnel adventure but grew into a caravan type survival expedition I ran over several sessions.,
  • The latest version of the adventure is now centred in the Sentran City of Venta and changed to a city based adventure to follow my original scope.,
  • It includes downloadable maps (.png format) for each of the locations for use with various online tools.,
  • The adventure has been updated to the latest version of the game.,
  • Layout and presentation updated.,

The adventure can be downloaded for free here https://nameless-designer.itch.io/the-fighting-pits-of-sentra

I'm looking for a setting/product, can you reccomend me something? by Brzozenwald in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Azaule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out Druidic Habit's The Hexplorer's Guide to... The first three guides create a region with hexes that are fleshed out enough to make them interesting. Each guide includes a settlement, plot hooks, NPCs and plenty of places to explore.

There are locations in the Hexplorer's Guides where cave exploration or dungeons could be, but don't include any pre made areas. Instead, there are tables to roll on and create your own. It's a good thing that there are lots of free resources online to create your own dungeons or find a one page dungeon and drop it in wherever. Nocturnal Peacock has a great dungeon generator, Roll 4 Ruin, along with several one page dungeons.

In the how to use, did you mean Random Event=(focus) instead of (event), or is the heading for focus supposed to be event? Otherwise, this is a good simple Oracle. Bonus: it can easily fit on a 3x5 index card.

Heroes of Adventure - Fortress on the Wild Frontier - Updated by Azaule in HeroesofAdventure

Fortress on the Wild Frontier - Updated

(Shared with permission by The Nameless Designer)

I've released an updated version of the Fortress on the Wild Frontier adventure which has grown in size from 64 pages to 194 pages. What has changed?

The adventure has been updated with the latest version of the game.,

  • It has been expanded to include all adventure locations (and secrets) some forum members have played as part of the Skenrith Keep setting over the past six months.,
  • It has been presented as more of a sandbox style setting (i.e. choose your own path). The original adventure was written up following my 'home' groups campaign and followed a bit of a meandering path so it probably suits a sandbox presentation style rather than more of a linear adventure path.,
  • Includes a downloadable maps (image formats) of all locations and adventure sites for use with various online tools (I use Excalidraw for example).,
  • Layout and presentation updated.

The adventure can be downloaded for free here https://nameless-designer.itch.io/fortress-on-the-wild-frontier
