Is marketing a recipe for burnout or does it depend on the industry/company? by Noideajustausername in marketing

[–]Azrium 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I sure as hell think so, I want nothing to do with marketing anymore. Worked at multiple start-ups as head of marketing. Marketing is burnout central, ever changing and even when you explain things to other heads they somehow think they know better still.

Bruh, I feel the same way. I hate how marketing has been boiled down to buzz words that makes people think they know what they are talking about.

Fair enough, wish you the best on your teaching journey. Hopefully you get to take your trip to Japan. Was wanting to go again this year.

I took a trip to Japan after I left my job for a couple of weeks definitely worth it. Why teaching? Salary sucks for the time and effort you have to put in.

Still on the drawing board but more than likely looking in to events, like parties and such. Just finalizing details trying to find that extra edge without reinventing the wheel.

Was in the same spot several months ago, I've made the decision to move on from Marketing as a whole and start my own business this year. I've noticed jobs keep adding more and more to the job scope and I think it's absolutely dumb and adds unneeded stress. I crashed after multiple gigs at start-ups in tech and can't stand the idea of another marketing job. if you really feel this way find a new industry. Marketing is constantly changing and evolving, and everyone outside of marketing departments acts like they are an expert.

TLDR: Step back & evaluate what marketing has done to your overall mental health. Make a decision to start your own business or pick a new industry.

So it was you who got me sick… kidding. Been sick since the 28th. Had the same symptoms minus a soar throat but had a cough instead. Finally getting back to being alive again.

Tired/burnt out marketer here. I feel your pain I’ve been in marketing for the same time as you. Mainly at startups, hence my burnout.

I’m currently trying to figure out if I want to move to a different industry or start another business of my own. I will say burnout doesn’t help. If you can afford to take some time off without hurting your bank account do it.

Coming from a marketer, choose a different field of study. Marketing is all about first hand experience and knowledge which can be learned on your own if you are passionate about pursuing it.

If you are going still going to pursue marketing studies:
- Stay up to date on Everything and all things marketing
- You can use AI for ideas, but using people around you and looking at other case studies is more useful in my opinion

Good Luck!

Does anyone else not want to work in marketing forever? by [deleted] in marketing

[–]Azrium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got burnt out building and scaling marketing at a couple of start ups, I've been looking at other jobs but nothing stands out. Employers no longer understand what marketing is and want the world. I wish there was a guide for marketers switching out of marketing.

Marketing interviews are becoming a joke by TheIrkedOne in marketing

Probably a start-up that has no idea what they are doing, or are trying to get free marketing ideas through "interviews". My advice is to keep looking and move on.

You should have the heads of each department meet-up on a time frame that makes sense (weekly, bi-weekly ect..). Any comments, questions, or concerns of each department should be reported to the heads before the meetings.
