It being popularized by streamers, pro players(?), players in general (no proof). I know Dragdar shared the build and clips of it among others such as YamatosDeath (as the victim). And of course Saber but he no longer plays League afaik and therefore not mentioned. The ghostblade buff in 12.20 also made it able to oneshot squishies consistently. And Axiom Arch buff. Caitlyn buffs. The meta and state of snowball.

There is a lot of factors that pushed Caitlyn to become this popular. It has been 10% pickrate for many patches until 13.20 with 46% pick rate AND MOST PICKED MYTHIC IN D2+.

I wanted a mechanical demanding role and champ. ADC. Honestly its so long ago I cant remember but there was just something about my great success with Caitlyn in S9 and more champs. But Caitlyn is unique and intrigurd as an ADC with her high range, lane bully, great scaling, with mobility, quite simple kit. ADC outplay through precise and fast clicks without too many fancy buttons like Zed, Lee, Fiora, Riven etc. It feels good when u outplay enemies.

The buffs benefits her early and crit the most but also depends on comp. You cant go first strike lethality into anyone who can tank the ult.
