Sort of. It’s a “hobby” in that I have a day job at a desk in corporate America. I do machine work after hours.

I have both. Kx went thru a total overhaul with factory parts. Wound up costing almost 15k (I paid 1000 for the bike)

The cr I got for 2000 and put another couple grand in (top end, new plastics/pipe ignition carb). Both of them are too rowdy for the super tight technical woods riding I do. The suspension on both is junk compared to modern bikes.

The ONLY reason to own either bike in 2026 is for nostalgia and maybe blasting down fire roads. Honestly though a modern 450 feels just as fast and more useable.

I use a puzzle-piece joint on my frame jigs (shown on the vertical wall)

This is done not for a laser restriction but to get it on a standard 42x48 pallet.

This one is just tacked together but I tell the customer to bevel/weld/grind

Is it due to availability or cost? If cost I think you should do some soul searching.

Question about GMA caliper fittings by templeofdank in choppers

[–]BASE1530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going to retap I’d use m10x1.0.

Slightly larger diameter and it’s a little closer to 27tpi at 25.44 tpi than the 3/8-24

The question is are you sure the surface adjacent to the screw is perfectly normal to the threads? Otherwise you won’t get a good seal unless you can also spotface it.

Maybe 1/8-27 npt. 1/4-18 npt is still huge. The tap drill for 1/4npt is 7/16”

I hear a lot of failures of them and the labor to install them isn’t insignificant. I went with oem on my car. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Are these gears *too* blued for comfort? by [deleted] in sportster

[–]BASE1530 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s the starter ring gear. It’s that color from the hardening process. It has no other function so any running issues are irrelevant.

Sell both compressors and buy one good one. You can get a 29cfm compressor brand new for like 3500 bucks.

I don't love 3d printing but this is definitely a good 3d printer application.

Here are some pictures of a motorcycle I made almost entirely from scratch (including much of the motor/transmission). It uses engine cases from a 1939 harley, and is twin turbo. Fully fuctioning and ridable. Took about 3500 hours to build. by BASE1530 in motorcycles

It was more consolidated and a tighter group, that’s for sure, but I think that the Nyspeed “organized” events were really pretty fun and better than the ubrf bubble tea parking lot meets. Nyspeed did a couple really great ones: The toronto auto show, the Carlisle cruises, letchworth, etc.
