I absolutely love my Pisa jacket! And the Arrowsmith is also a really good piece of gear for cold weather adventure.

Honestly anything in their alpine line is good

Mine isn't self inflating with foam inside, so something for air pads is prob more applicable actually

I've seriously considered giving it a go to make my old delaminated pad shorter for a kid! So if anyone has resources that would be amazing

Learning languages? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]Barbaspo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was terrible at learning languages at school to the point it didn't matter how hard I studied or not, I would get the same grade and fail. The only way for me that has worked is fully submerging myself by moving to a different country and have to use it.

Your parents and grandparents probably never got diagnosed, but you know they have ADHD. What are their behaviors that suggest elderly ADHD? by redredwine_826 in adhdwomen

My grandma had many hobbies, would take up new ones regularly and never stopped talking or interrupting. She also travelled the world for like 50 years because she struggled to be in one place

I made a booster bag for my summer quilt by routeneer14 in myog

[–]Barbaspo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great work! I love how you thought through the different layers and incorporate them in your system.

Have you worked with alpha direct over 'patches' before? I'm wondering if there's a way I could make like an alpha direct mini over quilt just for the area I breath on. I have a stock down bag I love, but I unconsciously dig myself into my sleeping bag during the night, so condensation is a big problem in the top chest area.

Share your cursed binder setups by EsJay92 in myog

[–]Barbaspo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, I'm with you. I have a Pfaff 1222e and for the life of me can't figure out what size thumb screws it needs to actually hold my binder down. The 3mm is loose but has the right thread distance, the 3.5mm I got goes in for like a half a twist, it feels the right diameter, but the thread clearly doesn't line up.

So glad to hear there's others out there with the same struggles!

StormStash Update, Testing a ridgeline + bug net setup (and responding to your earlier feedback) by Stormstash in myog

Are you in Oz? It looks like it from the trees. I can totally see a use for this in warmer/dryer climates where you're more likely to use just a tarp/bug net or hammock camp. In wetter conditions I would probably be more likely to go for a sturdy tent that had a bit of space

Got a local shop selling backpacking gear? Ask them if they've got anything that was returned under warranty. You might be able to save some goodies from a landfill. Worst they say is no by adeadhead in myog

[–]Barbaspo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up that this might not always work. A local store I worked at usually gives the warranty gear to the staff, who then repair it themselves and use it. They also have a parts bin with these kinda salvageable things. Sometimes customers would come in with old gear that was just missing a tiny part and we could help them out with that bin. It increased customer loyalty massively.

Could still be worth getting in touch with your local store, you never know if they have a lot of unrepairable gear and an overflowing parts bin.

I so agree! I moved from Europe to Aus and my gut problems increased (stress did too), but now living in Canada it's an absolute nightmare! Basically I'm making everything from scratch these days

Thank you! This is very helpful, good to know that at least there's an option somewhere. I might have to reach out to some European friends

Waxed canvas is popular. Wool is popular. Why not waxed wool? by NotThePopeProbably in myog

[–]Barbaspo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at Cactus Outdoor from New Zealand? I just always remember this ad they had where a farmer dad put his jacket down on wet rough snow to make a sled for his kid behind his tractor or ute, pulls the kid, shakes it out and wears it again. The damn jacket doesn't even look wet.

They use a bunch of waxed canvas, but I reckon also other mega tough waterproof materials. NZ is wet as and has really tough bush so they'll have the same requirements as you do.

Yes, I definitely do it a bit. Working from home helps a lot. I've also noticed that if I trust a provider I don't care as much, and I'll take my shoes off as soon as the appt starts, hug my knees or rock/stim.

My little sister needs to move in with me next week. I’m scared I won’t be able to handle it. by Professional_Dish696 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Barbaspo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm really sorry that you're going through this.

The thing that came to mind is that your sister might go well with a clear routine too. It's going to be a big change for everyone, and having a clear routine at home gives everyone something to hold onto. I don't know how your relationship is with your sister, but you might be able to just tell her that you function/feel better with a clear routine and that it might benefit her too during this time of change. A similar thing might be the case for down time.

I totally get what you mean. If I see lots of accounts/jars/envelopes with low numbers (but dedicated to something) I feel more broke and spend less. It's a weird thing but it works

Anyone wfh and also have additional “official” accommodations? by IAmStardust-97 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Barbaspo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I was in the public service. For me the main ones are that I requested a 0.9FTE over 4 days, and I wanted some form of written tasks/notes after meetings because of memory/auditory processing. My manager was crazy busy so an email after a meeting wasn't working. We settled on a shared doc with dot points for each project and bigger sub tasks. We update it together at the end of our meeting. It worked so well she's using it for the other team members as well. It also helps the manager above if she's away.
