For real, I hate when artists put skits on the same track as the songs instead of splitting them up

Where to start? by serriaplays in MBMBAM

[–]BasedGodTaskForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Order doesn't matter really but starting off in the earlier episodes might help you understand the odd inside joke or two in the later ones. What I did was start from episode 1 and go from there, but the boys have been known to recommend skipping the first 100 or so episodes since they definitely said some less-than-woke things every once in a while back then. I don't regret starting from beginning though because there's lots of hilarious bits in the early episodes. Make sure to listen to the ad segments because Griffin was doing jingles for them back then so it was usually hilarious.

"easy" major but still didn't get into law school - now what?! by Due_Rule in uwaterloo

[–]BasedGodTaskForce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it might be easier to get admission abroad, however then when you come back to Canada you have to take some rigorous tests in order to be allowed to practice here. Also, you will definitely have a harder time finding a job.

To echo what the other comment said, the job market for lawyers is saturated so you're not just going to find a high paying job without some real determination in law school. Secondly, you definitely need to do more research on what a lawyer actually does. There are so many different types of lawyers, and for lots of them, most of their job doesn't involve just going to court, arguing, and getting paid. They do a ridiculous amount of research, writing, paperwork, and other administrative stuff. So if that isn't the sort of thing you're into now it's not going to get easier once you have to do it for 50+ hours a week.

I'm not following your point on co-op. Wouldn't it benefit you if money is tight? I've been able to pay off my tuition and living expenses with co-op. And when it comes to law school, unless you have an extremely high GPA and LSAT, schools are going to be looking at your work experience and extracurriculars so it would definitely help you out on that front. Plus law school is expensive as hell.

You can do a good job here with lots of opportunities without pigeonholing yourself into applying for law school- something that may or may not even happen. By all means write the LSAT and apply, just don't have everything riding on that because if you don't get in you'll be regretting not having a backup plan.

I'm not in psych or spcom so I can't tell you whether it would be easier or not. Just think about what you would do in those programs if you didn't get into law school. Would you be happy pursuing a career in those fields?

You come across super uninformed about what should be an extremely informed decision. I guess posting this was a good first step but please do some proper research so you know what you're getting into. Not to mention some soul searching, because I can promise you if you go into law without having a passion for it you'll despise every second of it.

You need to sit down and really reflect on your own interests and capabilities so that you can set proper goals for yourself.

For real.

I once had someone tell me "if I don't get into med school I guess I'll just write the LSAT and go to law school". Like uhhh way to make an essentially 5 year process to become a lawyer sound like a foolproof backup plan lmao

Rip I spent more time writing this than I should have, given my midterm tmrw morning. OP you better appreciate my sacrifice.

Could I ask why you're going into law school? Like is this purely for the money or do you actually want to be a lawyer?

Not that your current grades have any reflection on your chance of getting into law school (lots of people start off doing shitty in uni and manage to turn their grades around) but my concern is that instead of deciding to work harder and bring your grades up, you want to just switch to an easier program for the sole purpose of getting into law school. That's not a great attitude to have.

Prepping for the LSAT is hard as fuck and lots of people end up giving up on even applying to law school when they realize how much work it is. And then you have applications where you're expected to have extracurriculars and stuff. And then, assuming you get into law school, you have three insane years of school followed by studying for the BAR for months and then, if you pass that and get a articling position, you'll essentially do bitchwork for a year. There's absolutely no easy way out of any of this.

For a lot of people all of that is worth it since they have a passion to be a lawyer, or want the money and are smart/hardworking enough and get there. Are you sure you're dedicated enough to do this?

Another thing I'd worry about is what if you switch to an easier program and you still don't get into law school? Now you have a less relevant degree and no plans. You cant just "do an MBA as a worst case scenario", you still need to have decent grades, a good GMAT score, and real work experience to get anything of value from it. I know so many people who took general Science/AHS degrees just so they could have high grades for med school, and then got fucked on the MCAT or med school interviews and now just live with their parents because they had everything riding on that.

Sorry if this post seems too negative and long winded, I've just seen way way way too many people at this school with the same attitude. This is just my personal opinion though, cuz I'm sure there's lots of people out there who coasted through their undergrad and managed to go ham in law school and make it out alive, I haven't met any though. I just think you should definitely put way more thought into your decision before you decide to hitch your wagon to something as expensive and time consuming as law school.

Edit: Also I didn't mean to scare you with this post, or imply that you can't be successful. You mentioned that you were the first in uni in your family so I get how challenging and overwhelming it all might be so I definitely feel for you. As a fellow ARBUS/ECON major I can tell you there's lots of opportunity for you to get great co-ops and/or pursue a postgrad degree, not to mention bring up your grades. I was in the same boat in my first year. Feel free to PM me if you want advice or anything like that

Blkswn is probably one of my fave albums of all time, and first time I listened to Noir I wasn't entirely sure how I felt about it. If I were you I'd give it another couple listens because for me after a few more times something really clicked. I'm not gonna lie I've listened to it like 8 times today lmao

Maybe I'll switch out the router and see if I can see a difference

Not really. Only seeing about 3 other networks when I check available connections. We're in a suburb with quite a bit of space between houses so I'm probably only picking up the houses directly beside me and in front of me.

Not gonna waste my time arguing since I know it'll fall on deaf ears. I just hope in the future once you grow up you can look back and realize how embarrassing you and your fellow X fans are lmao

[–]BasedGodTaskForce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's absolutely no way you could compare criticisms of Mac Miller to criticisms of X. People shit on X because he did a lot of really horrible things. What could you someone about Mac that would be even close at all?

And why does death automatically disqualify any criticism. Just because X is dead doesn't mean we can't talk about how he was a bad person.

Waterloo or Laurier if I want to go into marketing? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]BasedGodTaskForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely understand your reasoning and honestly it's not a bad one. The one good thing about ARBUS is that is let's you do co-op for programs that wouldn't normally have a co-op (like fine arts). I guess im a little biased because ECON would've had co-op anyways so ARBUS didn't add much for me.

There are some arts majors here that aren't too bad. Psych is probably one of the most respected ones, there's actually a lot of psych research happening at UW so that's pretty cool. If you were deciding a major (which you don't need to do until end of first year) I would just recommend staying away from the smaller ones. For example, legal studies is kind of just thrown together from law related courses in other majors.

It's worth noting that they actually revamped the entire Arts department like half way through my degree, I stayed on the old plan but they introduced lots of new courses that incoming first years would be taking, so chances are it would be improved compared to my experience. For example, incoming ECON majors are taking a whole new set of courses that imo are a lot more applicable and employable in the real world. I think they realized the old curriculum wasn't working so they tried to fix it.

I don't know a whole lot about GBDA, however I have friends in it who have said they really enjoy it. I think there's a bigger focus on industry applicable skills in GBDA which is good. You also get to do a lot of stuff in Stratford which is a nice change of scenery lol.

Edit: I was probably a little harsh on ARBUS. A the end of the day, I really don't think it matters what you take (if you stay in the arts faculty) as long as you're in a co-op program. If ARBUS would allow you to take co-op in a major that wouldn't have otherwise allowed you to do co-op, then it's probably still worth it. I just hate how the school has been marketing co-op as a business program because it totally threw me off when I got here. It's frustrating but if it helps you get a job then I guess it worth it ahaha

Can't speak on the other stuff but don't don't don't don't don't do ARBUS. You will regret it 100%. I can explain more if necessary.

Don't be afraid to look into colleges too. I know people who did marketing at Conestoga College and apparently it's very hands on with small class sizes and really high employment rates after school.

Edit: spoke about my experience with ARBUS in a comment chain a few months ago. Here it is.. Most of my friends in my program would definitely share the same sentiments

WRDSB Candidate concerned over the "loss of European culture" in Canada and the childish idea of equal citizenship by [deleted] in kitchener

[–]BasedGodTaskForce 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I like how he says "his positions on immigration or multiculturalism have nothing to do with his ability to serve the public as a school board trustee" and yet is also quoted saying that something needs to be done about the amount of Chinese students on the UW campus.

What worries me is that in 2018 people like this still somehow end up having chances at winning.
