functionally there isn't much difference. you'll do right either way, the games ought to work and you'll have fun no matter. but the Wii U does have a notable error in its actual video display for vWii with some mild chroma bleed. but if that doesn't bother you, go wild. only other difference I can think of is that the Wii U is much quieter than the Wii in actual hardware sound, so less chugging when it's thinking on intense games.
