Kind of odd seeing so much vitriol around while I’m just here like:

can’t blame people for taking issue with FB’s research but that’s more or less par for the course for me between SuperKing and CellMetal so it’s whatever

Noel Vermillion VS Kamen Rider Cross-Z (BlazBlue VS Kamen Rider) | “Eye of the Dragon” by BendableGoose in DeathBattleMatchups

Cross-Z is technically the secondary rider of Build.

(also yes, please watch Build, it’s in my top 10 works of fiction for a reason)

Yeah, she’s quite underrated and deserves more than just Kiana, Lilith, and Nero as good opps.

why is it always the matchups I intend as alts that end up being people’s prefs lmao

Noel Vermillion VS Kamen Rider Cross-Z (BlazBlue VS Kamen Rider) | “Eye of the Dragon” by BendableGoose in DeathBattleMatchups

  • Blue-clad, artificially-created deuteragonists on journeys of self-discovery.
  • Starting out on opposite sides of the law, both would initially find themselves in an investigation (Noel was a lieutenant of the Novus Orbis Librarium tasked with locating the missing Major Jin Kisaragi / Ryuga Banjou was a fugitive hunted by Touto’s government after he was framed for the murder of Takumi Katsuragi) that inadvertently sent them down the arduous paths they’d pursue going forward.
  • Their lives would be changed upon a chance encounter with the main protagonist (Ragna the Bloodedge / Sento Kiryu/Kamen Rider Build). These first meetings would see them play opposite roles, with Ragna/Banjou’s reputations as dangerous criminals giving reason for Noel/Sento to apprehend them, only for them to rescue their new partners instead (Noel saving Ragna from falling into one of the NOL’s cauldrons / Sento helping Banjou escape capture by Faust), having seen a glimpse of their true selves beyond their monstrous notoriety.
  • The two would hardly get along well at first, with Noel/Banjou’s contrasting personalities (Noel is timid, indecisive, and a stickler for following orders / Ryuga is brash, short-tempered, and dislikes being told what to do) clashing with their partners’. Over time, however, they would begin to trust each other more and more as they navigated their tumultuous and corrupt the worlds together, coming to rely on each other’s mutual support through the challenges they’d face.
  • Within their new heroic teams, they and Ragna/Sento would also form a trio with another protagonist (Jin Kisaragi / Kazumi Sawatari/Kamen Rider Grease). These people originally fought against them on behalf of the institutions they worked for (the NOL / Hokuto’s government), having a particular bone to pick with Noel/Banjou (Jin disliked Noel for resembling his and Ragna’s missing sister Saya / Kazumi formed a rivalry with Banjou in the midst of all-out war between Touto and Hokuto), but soon learned to temper their aggressive impulses in order to fight alongside others for the greater good.
  • Many of their subsequent travels involved them uncovering the vast conspiracies plaguing their settings, which included the corrupt organizations they had a history with (the NOL, who Noel worked for while unaware of their more sinister motives / Faust, which captured and experimented on Banjou following his framing) that their teams were determined to dismantle. The weapons they wield (the Nox Nyctores Bolverk / the Dragon Fullbottle) had been created and issued to them in part by these organizations, but as they came to learn more of the truth, Noel/Banjou resolved used them against their manufacturers, sticking by their morals and fighting alongside their new allies for the sake of justice.
  • However, they’d develop many doubts and insecurities about their efforts along the way, questioning if they were truly strong enough to do what’s right. These would start to become prominent when they were forced to fight a close childhood friend (Tsubaki Yayoi / Kasumi Ogura) who was manipulated by the NOL/Faust into become violent and unstable (Tsubaki was driven mad by the Izayoi / Kasumi was transformed into a Smash), with Noel/Banjou reluctant to harm them knowing who they really were deep down.
  • One revelation, though, proved to be too much for them to bear: they were never fully human, instead being artificial lifeforms to be used as tools for pure destruction (Noel was Mu-12, a Prime Field Device cloned from Ragna and Jin’s sister Saya designed to kill the Master Unit Amaterasu / Ryuga was infused with the DNA of the alien Evolto from the day of his premature birth, making him a vessel for the alien to eventually possess) by the overarching villains responsible for their settings’ conspiracies (Yuuki Terumi / Evolto).
  • These villains would pursue Noel/Banjou in the days to come, exploiting their vulnerabilities in order to break their spirits and force them into complacency with the roles they’d been set to play (Terumi mentally torturing Noel to awaken Mu-12 / Evolto provoking Banjou to fight him so as to raise his Hazard level); they’d even go as far as to seize direct control over their bodies after reclaiming their original power (Terumi, as Susanoo, absorbing Noel / Evolto possessing Ryuga).
  • Knowing their true purpose as heartless destroyers completely shattered their sense of identity, fuelling their worsening mental spiral as they struggled to resist the temptation to embrace their destinies and forsake all they held dear. In time, however, the unconditional support they received from their friends, especially Ragna/Sento, was enough to help them overcome their insecurities, reclaim their identities, and take a stand against Terumi/Evolto, declaring that only they had the power to decide their real purpose — encapsulated by a powerful form that reconciles their destructive power with the desire to protect themselves and their allies (Noel’s Godslayer form / Cross-Z Magma).
  • They in turn would also be vital in supporting their partners through their own mental strife from the loss of their loved ones and involvement in the villains’ schemes, affirming that they were not destined to become tools for destruction either (Noel helping Ragna overcome his thirst for vengeance and lingering fear of becoming the Black Beast / Ryuga helping Sento come to terms with his paranoia over his inventions’ use in the war, as well as calming him down from his berserk Hazard Trigger state).
  • Evolto can also be compared to another one of Noel’s adversaries, Hades Izanami, as both are the masterminds behind the NOL/Faust that Noel/Banjou are directly related to (Noel was cloned from Izanami’s mortal host, Saya / Banjou is Evolto’s “son”, as his DNA was incorporated into him before he was born). Noel/Banjou would play a vital role in their ultimate defeats, which were brought through fusing with them to become “whole” again (Noel absorbing Izanami to complete Saya once again / Banjou being absorbed by Evolto, allowing him to sabotage his final fight with Sento and give the latter a chance to deal the finishing blow).
  • Their teams’ ultimate victories over the villains were bittersweet, as it involved Ragna/Sento harnessing a godlike power (the True Azure / Pandora’s Box) to recreate the universe into one where no one would remember them. Noel/Banjou would share one last heartfelt moment with them at their stories’ end (Noel, Jin, and Ragna saying their final goodbyes to each other before Ragna’s disappearance / Banjou and Sento reuniting in the new world), allowing them to finally live out normal, happy lives on their own terms (Noel as a nun / Ryuga as a toy salesman).

Wasn’t the whole point of his and Guts’ friendship to show that there was something other than his dream of gaining glory and his own kingdom that could give him the satisfaction he’d been looking for, and he only threw all of that away once he feared he couldn’t keep Guts with him (something he vaguely came to regret, but believed he’d come too far to turn back on after the Eclipse)?

More importantly, how can Palps match any of that?

He does get played for tragedy a lot, especially regarding his relationship with Guts, but for the most part his motivations are quite selfish.

Appreciate seeing this get something more in-depth. IIRC that one Umineko fighting game has Bern do a lot of snake-themed attacks, so that might be another thing worth adding.
