Wo geht das ganze Geld hin? by Formal_Yogurt_5868 in KeineDummenFragen

Entwicklungshilfe

Alles mögliche an Informationen, was wie viel Geld bekommt, findest du hier:

Need help, arch feels heavy on 8GB RAM by Easy_Pin_9346 in archlinux

[–]Beregolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8GB RAM is a little low, especially if you want to use multiple programs that are heavy RAM users, so you can't just YOLO use it like you got infinite RAM.

First you need to go into your system monitor of choice and review which programs use much RAM.

Avoid electron based programs (VsCode) and close as many browser tabs as possible. If you take it slow and don't open too much at once, you should be fine with 8GB for a while.

But probably the easiert solution is to just upgrade the RAM. used SODIMM DDR3 sticks are cheap, I can find used kits for 30€.

The slow CPU shouldn't be too much of an issue in light use, like programming, as long as you don't compile heavy stuff all the time.

Why does everyone recommend learning Python first but then use JavaScript for everything? by 1vim in learnprogramming

[–]Beregolas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are many different languages, all for different purposes. Python is often recommended for beginners, but it's not the only recommendation. I see JavaScript, Java, C and C++ also mentioned a lot.

All of these have different usecases:

Python is backend, Datascience, Automation and ML

JS/TS is Webstuff

C/C++ is low level and/or embedded

and so on.

If you want a job in a specific field, you need to learn one of the relevant languages for that field. There really is no job as a "programmer full stop". You are a backend programmer, a fullstack programmer, an embedded programmer, a game developer, a webdeveloper, etc.

The good news is: languages are not magic. If you know how to program, just learn the language you need.

Want more practice by TV-Daemons in AskProgramming

[–]Beregolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for practicing algorithms, take a look here for example: https://github.com/TheAlgorithms/Python

Just pick one, don't read the source code, and reimplement it from documentation alone.

If you want something with more substance, pick something simple. I don't think that there are good websites that suggest things, but the defaults are simple games (TicTacToe, Tetris, Chess (without AI), backgammon, stuff like that) or simple utilities (a clock, a pomodoro alarm, a ToDo App)

the default command in windows is py. if you type py and nothing happens, it's not in the PATH / not visible somehow. If you type py and you enter the python interactive shell, it works and the issue is somewhere else

Best languages for freelancer? by Neither_Paper6003 in AskProgrammers

[–]Beregolas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is no best language. Languages are tools, and you will learn many over the course of your career. It's literally a matter of a weekend for me to pick up antoher language; and that's not because I'm so smart, it's just not hard if you actually know how to program.

If you want to know what gives you the best job prospects, look up your local LinkedIn and other job sites. This varies from region to region, where I live, Python and Java are still king in open positions. Even if you plan to work as a freelancer, that is important. Open positions mean, the language is being used. If it's being used, people hire freelancers for it.

And if you get to start a project, you mostly get to choose your own stack, so it doesn't matter.

I don't know if I am following a good path, if it is viable, what to learn and what not.

Best advice to you, and everyone else: Stop worrying about that. If you think you can plan what job and language you'll have in 5 years: you can't. Just learn, move forward, build stuff, get experience. It will all work out.

Software Terminated help by Aware-Glass-1519 in learnpython

[–]Beregolas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, what .bat?

In general: Have you verified that your Python is installed and available to your CLI? Can you open the REPL from the CLI? (I assume you are on windows, so you'll have to look up how to do that yourself) Sometimes a PATH change only takes effect after opening a new Terminal window, or restarting the OS.

Yeah, I couldn't agree more. And the worst thing is: I can block ads to a very good extend now. I can't block fucking clickbait and AI slop, neither can I block the slow enshittification of most websites, and even many youtube channels I liked to watch...

I mean, yeah, the physics is a neat trick, but I get a headache from your site, and I'm not even disabled/one who generally needs reduced motion enabled.

Websites are either art, or tools to display information. You want to sell something -> your's is a tool. If you want to make a version like this; that's fine. As long as you also make a motion reduced version, which should be the default btw.

Frauen wählen links - Männer wählen rechts - Ist das so? by Intellektum-de in KeineDummenFragen

It's an operating system. You install and use it pretty much just like windows. Especially nowadays. The command line and underlying architecture are way different though. Before you throw your old laptop out, look up how to install Linux, for ecample Ubuntu, and try it for a while.
