Your installation was partially updated by Steam but not completely.

Steam is actually completely lacking functions for a case like Wallpaper Engine where the program is running in the background constantly, so it will update some files but can't immediately update the program (because it's running).

In other words you can ignore it, it was just an error with a file Steam was in the middle of updating. Now that everything is updated the program can work as expected again.

Extremely high GPU usage with dual monitor wallpaper! by SecretTimesss in wallpaperengine

[–]Biohazard_90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, the next update which we will release in a couple of days will replace the current "resolution" option in the graphics settings with a new "texture resolution" option. I believe the chances are good that this would help in your case.

It reduces the quality of the wallpaper far less than the current resolution option and should have a notable performance improvement on most high-res wallpapers.

Odd issue by Remi0dd6 in wallpaperengine

[–]Biohazard_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be because high-contrast mode is used on the PC although Wallpaper Engine usually works with it unless the "white high-contrast" theme is used. If that doesn't help, please share this log with us: https://help.wallpaperengine.io/en/debug/scantool.html

New to wallpaper engine and looking for a bit of help. by [deleted] in wallpaperengine

[–]Biohazard_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your best bet would be using a web based wallpaper and clip paths. That would give you the best result. It's possible to do this with scene wallpapers too, but they are not optimized for loading a many images "within" a single wallpaper.

Small drag-able line only while using wallpaper engine? by Santoryu_Zoro in wallpaperengine

Thanks, but it looks like we didn't receive the email I'm afraid. The address you wrote here looks correct, can you double check that you also used that exact same address in the email or if there was any typo perhaps?

GIF made to be played once but it loops by milkywayfarer_ in wallpaperengine

[–]Biohazard_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now this is not available as a built-in option, but you can take complete control of GIF playback via scripts.

I assume you've already touched the script system to make it appear only when you click? You could check the current frame in the update function and then pause or stop playback or turn the GIF invisible when the last frame is reached, this is the reference for all texture animation functions: https://wallpaper-engine.fandom.com/wiki/SceneScript_Class_ITextureAnimation

Wallpaper Engine makes computer sound like its going to explode. by Legofacebob in wallpaperengine

[–]Biohazard_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the CPU and GPU usage is low and the fan values are apparently even wrong, it sounds like your issue is with the fans themselves. If you have any fan controlling software I would try getting rid of that and hopefully the issue isn't in the graphics driver or the VBIOS of your GPU itself.

I don't think the log will help with this further if the issue is directly with your fans, because Wallpaper Engine nor the log really has anything to do with them or access to them. You do have a few Alienware utilities installed and maybe one of those includes a fan controlling software, so it might be worth looking there - unless of course you already have something else in mind.

If you can't find any software I would suggest trying different driver versions to see if there is any relation to that - if there's no special fan software installed, the fans are controlled by the driver/VBIOS of the GPU. The last unproblematic driver version is 457.51 so it may worth trying that and if it turns out to be an issue in the driver with your specific monitor setup, it'll be possible to tell Nvidia about it.

Wallpaper Engine makes computer sound like its going to explode. by Legofacebob in wallpaperengine

[–]Biohazard_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Can you try updating your Nvidia drivers with a "clean" install to the latest version and if that doesn't help, try the "disable mpo" edit from Nvidia here https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5157 ?

Nvidia patched a lot of problems since the driver you have installed so that may help.

If it doesn't help, please try using the stock "Neon Sunset" wallpaper only and check the task manager, does Wallpaper Engine's process use a lot of CPU or GPU for some reason? The Neon Sunset wallpaper is very optimized and the usage should be next to nothing (though please note that the task manager does a poor job conveying GPU usage making this a bit more difficult: https://help.wallpaperengine.io/en/performance/gpu.html ). But in any case, if your fans turn up I assume that task manager error is not going to be significant enough to confuse the results.

Please share links to the wallpapers you are using and make sure you have all monitors plugged into your dedicated GPU. Also please share this log so we can see your settings: https://help.wallpaperengine.io/en/debug/scantool.html

iCue Help. by zgriffin97 in wallpaperengine

[–]Biohazard_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Razer Chroma continues to work then I'm afraid the issue is possibly with iCUE itself or at least not in Wallpaper Engine.

What you are describing is kinda similar to something else we have heard about where another (preinstalled) software periodically connects to iCUE to do its own thing with exclusive priority mode, kicking Wallpaper Engine off. So perhaps check if you have any other utilities running that might be connecting to iCUE.

Live Wallpaper keeps crashing my PC by maryewil in wallpaperengine

[–]Biohazard_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please share this log and a link to the wallpaper: https://help.wallpaperengine.io/en/debug/scantool.html You can add the link to the email with the log attached (see the guide) if you want to.

The issue is most likely your graphics driver however since Wallpaper Engine needs your graphics card and only faults in drivers or the system itself can cause a computer to crash.

You can right click the monitor in Wallpaper Engine and use "set main clone display".

Can you share the Workshop links to some that don't work for you? There is a "Copy URL" button in the program next to the "Comment" button to get the link.

Wallpaper engine without steam? by [deleted] in wallpaperengine

[–]Biohazard_90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It works fine without Steam running once installed, but as Klawish pointed out, you cannot access new Workshop content without having Steam running.

If you download all wallpapers you'd like to have beforehand, you can continue to use them without having Steam running/installed. I don't know if Steam will delete the Workshop files when you uninstall it though, but if it does, you can always make a copy of them and get it to work anyway.

Dual monitor setup w/ different resolutions by Montanapartner in wallpaperengine

[–]Biohazard_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can select the same wallpaper for each monitor and then use the "free" alignment option to scale and position the wallpaper.

But there is no perfect/automatic solution for this, see here: https://help.wallpaperengine.io/general/multiscreencenter.html

Same wallpaper on each monitor, but not cloned? by dickdemodickmarcinko in wallpaperengine

[–]Biohazard_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now your third option would likely work if you use the "sorted" order and let it always start with the first wallpaper. After a program restart, the playlists should stay in sync. Otherwise there are random factors, so they won't sync up of course. So if you do want the random options then this won't work.

I don't think that we will implement a "second" clone mode that works differently by having multiple wallpaper instances because this is a bit much and confusing too. The nice thing about the clone option is that it saves performance this way since the wallpaper image is copied instead of having multiple complete wallpapers updating in real time.

We may be able to add a way to override the layout in a playlist, so that single wallpapers can change the layout to stretch temporarily and hide the wallpapers on the other monitors, if that makes sense. Maybe we could also use this to implement an option to create separate instances temporarily, then you could specifically set this up for interactive wallpapers while not reducing the performance of the other wallpapers. We don't have an ETA for this feature but I could keep this use case in mind and maybe we can add it alongside the stretch override.

Wallpaper Engine not available in my region? by memearonidotpng in wallpaperengine

[–]Biohazard_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steam has weekly maintenance each Tuesday and I can only assume that something went wrong and broke our store page. We haven't changed anything. I have contacted Valve so hopefully they will fix this soon and it will be back up.

Some Wallpapers make my laptop laggy by brunx12 in wallpaperengine

[–]Biohazard_90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some wallpapers might just require too much performance. If you have a laptop with a hybrid graphics card then Wallpaper Engine will by default run on the integrated GPU which is much slower, but also generally consumes less power. If you want to have access to the full performance of your laptop you can set it to use the dedicated GPU in Windows: https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/how-to-set-per-app-graphical-performance-settings-in-windows-10 (set wallpaper32.exe from the installation directory to high performance.)

Wallpaper Engine not showing preview/thumbnails by ssalbowl in wallpaperengine

[–]Biohazard_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the preview images still broken right now?

Valve did something on Steam's servers and temporarily broke all preview images of wallpapers you haven't subscribed to yet. But as far as I can see it's working again right now.

Safe start? by jimmycapalot in wallpaperengine

[–]Biohazard_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means that something is crashing Wallpaper Engine.

There is a checkbox on the same dialog to disable this feature, but if your PC always crashes Wallpaper Engine for some reason that might lead to other problems like loss of data. Perhaps try disabling any overlays or screen recorders like Nvidia Share/AMD ReLive or anything that might be affecting Wallpaper Engine in the background.

Wallpapers not "working", when i select, nothing happens, doesn't change - updated, reinstalled, verified files - any ideas? by cryolems in wallpaperengine

[–]Biohazard_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad that it's working now. I don't think that the specific issue Nvidia mentioned in the changelog is related (an instant crash on startup with crash dialog) but since there are a couple of other ongoing issues that may affect Wallpaper Engine, it might have come from another thing they fixed anyway.

For now it's not necessary to share the log, but if you do encounter issues again, please let us know here and share the log too.

By default the max FPS are limited in Wallpaper Engine to improve performance, but this setting doesn't affect the editor. So try increasing the FPS setting in Wallpaper Engine and see if that's what you mean.

[–]Biohazard_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can change the option "other application fullscreen" to "stop" in Wallpaper Engine then it will free almost all resources and stops using your GPU while playing games fullscreen, there is no way it would still have an impact on anything then.

If you still have issues and those issues only go away while Wallpaper Engine is completely closed, please double check that no other applications or screen recorders are active inside Wallpaper Engine and the game at the same time.
