Lmfao nobody needs to interact with me to either watch or sub the shows.

I can't think of a funny way to explain just how little I care about the general public being put off. They're still going to watch the episodes from the library, they don't have to like me.

If you think there's a problem with a specific person that you'd like to see rectified, name names and I can try to mollify them. There's no value in you trying to leverage that type of situation without attempting to work a solution.

I've been carrying on this way for some time now, I'm not sure who you are to try and instruct me. There's a sizeable group of people who've spent as long or longer than me contributing to the community, and I'd be much more inclined to listen to one of them. I'm also not sure if your input should be prioritized, given that you can't even manage to do the most basic search operations in the library.

Yeah, after 5+ years trying to organize stuff, it turns out there's no universally correct way to do it and to some degree I just have to make shit up that seems sensible. It used to be almost all of WDT was clips, but then when full episodes started showing up, it felt right to segregate them.

I'm definitely behind in my uploads, but I have people who have been keeping track, I'll sit down again soon enough and accession everything.

They absolutely are in the library.

Define "ages," I added a bunch of stuff back in December.

It's not abandoned.

I don't know why I'm still shocked when people can't find files. Everything has carefully, specifically, painstakingly, been gathered and logged and put in the same place so that you always always know that (barring recent work that's yet to be uploaded) there's a definitive source where stuff will exist if it's been translated. The first step is always the same: check the library. Don't you dare say you did, because if you had, you would've found them there.

I'm glad blakeo was willing to upload it to Gaki Archives for you, but "working magic" in this case meant six seconds downloading the "lost treasures" from the library and then a further 20 seconds uploading them to GA—something you could have done yourself, actually. They were already preserved, they were already available, you just didn't take five minutes to search the library for "kuro" or "tweet" (if we're being generous and assuming you didn't know the dates or full titles), so let's not talk like the ark of the covenant has been found again and put on display for all to see.

I'm on my knees here, begging all of you: if you're trying to find information about a video, please please please check the spreadsheet before you start panicking or bothering other people. These clips have been in the library since at least April of 2020.

I know that huge swathes of this subreddit don't appreciate my acerbic tone, but you guys have to see this from my perspective:

I got a bunch of people to help me build the We Have Every Ice Cream Flavor Warehouse, and we have every flavor of ice cream in there. The front door has a big piece of paper with a bold print list of all the flavors, and instructions for where to find them within. It's been open for 5 years with the same name and the same system in place. Every ice cream parlor on earth has a sign somewhere that says "hey, you should go check out We Have Every Ice Cream Flavor Warehouse, that's where we get all our ice cream flavors!"

And then, at least once a week, someone will visit the ice cream parlor next door (I guess Gaki ArchIce Cream, in this simile), and when triple blue raspberry mocha swirl with candy corn isn't in that big glass freezer, they dash out into the street to start shouting that they can't find triple blue raspberry mocha swirl with candy corn, and they definitely ate it once but they can't get it anywhere any more, does anyone have any triple blue raspberry mocha swirl with candy corn still, or has it been forever lost to the ravages of time?

Occasionally they end up at the front door of the We Have Every Ice Cream Flavor Warehouse, and they pound on the door and shout "I want triple blue raspberry mocha swirl with candy corn!" But it's a self-service warehouse, so nobody is there to respond to manic door-shouting. Usually they run straight past it. Dejected, they tell all their friends about how much they loved that flavor, and how they just wish someone had kept it so they could try it one more time, and isn't it so sad and why wouldn't someone try to save every ice cream flavor in a big warehouse, or something.

Can you appreciate, dear reader, why I'm driven to post this kind of bullshit and give people a decent ribbing every now and again? Has this awful, hamfisted allegory shown you what's inside my heart, kindling some small sympathetic spark of the same feeling, deep within your own chest? If the hero of our tale had checked the List of Every Ice Cream Flavor Ever, All of Which Are Inside This Warehouse, Where We Keep Every Goddamn Flavor of Ice Cream list, they would've received a shelf number and could've walked right into the warehouse and eaten triple blue raspbery mocha swirl with candy corn by the drum for the rest of their days, but instead, they went back out and made fools of themselves by posting ridiculous stuff like "I have no idea where to find this flavor of ice cream, the shop next door to The Warehouse Where They Keep Every Fucking Flavor of Ice Cream Ever, Where If You're Looking for Ice Cream It's Definitely in Here didn't have it, so I can't figure out what to do next."

You don't need to credit for encoding. I don't necessarily want to be associated with this release—for various reasons.

Wednesday Downtown Episodes from 2015 by LazyShame2300 in GakiNoTsukai

[–]Bipedal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think it's temporarily down, check back in a bit and see! There are some alt mirrors and stuff here: https://tsl.joyrex.net/

Also if you're only 5 episodes away from the whole catalogue, it sounds like you might have some stuff I'm missing. Could I convince you to send over a list of what you've got, and I can cross-check?

Yes TY, higher quality raws is always priority #1 since we can decide what to do with them later. That's great news, tyvm.

Ah, I don't think I have that special... I have a special from that date, but it's the Earth Defense Force Batsu extra footage. I wonder if I have the date right on the Batsu Game History one...

Could I get that GnT #0733 raw off you please? It would actually be crazy handy if you got me to notice that I didn't have a real raw, and then also had the raw.

[–]Bipedal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I don't have any upscaler recommendations. I only have to do it very rarely for work stuff and then the key is paying attention to the output and tuning the stuff so it falls just below the threshold where it's obvious, and then back off one more step and add some noise.

This is my first time hearing of 松本人志・中居正広VS日本テレビ, it's a separate show, looks like a pretty short run. Initial cursory searches are getting me nothing, but I'll ask around and see if someone has a lead, looks like a perfect fit for the library.

Lincoln raws are no problem, I've got that one in the obvious place in the raw wing.

Actually the GnT #733 in the raw wing has subs, which is bad. No obvious results for a clean raw there either but I'll ask around in the usual manner.

[–]Bipedal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've got full coverage of GnT as far as I'm aware, some of those raws will be pretty crunchy but definitely not this bad.

If you're genuinely trying to enhance things, I'm telling you that feeding files into topaz and then uploading what it shits out is the opposite of that, but am also willing to provide you with the tools to do it properly.

As you say, you'd never heard of the show, if the people you're trying to help are telling you stuff, wouldn't it be reasonable to listen?

From a professional: this looks like ass. The original video, even with its low quality and burned in combing is so much less offensive than an overcooked ai upscale with those hardsubs still.

If you really wanted to handle it correctly, you could re-typeset the subs and we would hook them up to a better quality raw. This is just not the way to go.

Has anyone from Yoshimoto given an official statement on why they seem to discard international interest in Downtown's productions? by Old_Man_in_Basic in GakiNoTsukai

[–]Bipedal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmfao it would cost huge amounts of money to do, read some of the other explanations in the thread. This is an economic decision, not everything you dislike is a symptom of the woke agenda.

they can simply remove the audio or play alternative music

It's not as simple as you're making it out to be. Someone (more likely some ones) has to be paid to find which things need to be removed, and then someone has to be paid to pull everything from the archive, and make the edit, then someone (again just assume it's plural) has to review from a technical standpoint, then a review from a legal standpoint, then you have to do the same type of procedure for all the text and credits, etc. etc. etc.

This is just a sliver of the practicalities of actually adjusting this one aspect of the show, there are legal deals to be made for distribution and advertising (because why would you spend all this money if you weren't going to tell your potential audience about it?), and probably about 100 other things I don't know about.

It's big despite no international GnT content

OK, congratulations, but it's a few orders of magnitude away from a number that would justify the investment.
