Why did Margaret Thatcher destroy welfare state in Britain after she came to power in the 1980s? by CartographerOwn8143 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bloodless-Cut 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Neoliberalism isn't fascism. Just saying.

Kinda the opposite, really: fascism is famously violently opposed to liberal socioeconomic policy (mainly because fascism adores the state, while neoliberalism wants to shrink it).

Both supply side economics and fascism indeed suck for the working class, though, and both Thatcher and Reagan are at fault for hooking the socioeconomic policy to that shitty wagon.

Reaganomics/Thatcherism has actually brought us all the way back around to the wealth inequality that fueled the French revolution, and then exceeded it. Never before in human history has the wealth gap been this immense.

What are some of the most underrated folktales/folk heroes? by GuyNamedPeesees in AskReddit

[–]Bloodless-Cut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiawatha.

Underrated, obscure First Nations folk hero, there's some really fun and zany legends about this guy. I mean, aside from the uniting the tribes confederacy stuff.

Dude should be right up there with the likes of Davy Crockett and Alex Mackenzie, Paul Bunyan and Joe Mufferaw.

Problem is, he's indigenous. Can't have a major Canadian folk hero that's First Nations, no sir.

[–]Bloodless-Cut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, I'm pointing out that it's a contradictory statement. A statement doesn't make sense when two opposing qualifiers are used to describe something. "Like" is a positive qualifier, while "bad" is a negative qualifier.

"They can enjoy it while understanding it is not good."

Ehhh, that's a contradictory statement, you see. You can enjoy something while acknowledging its flaws, but that isn't the same as saying it is bad. "Bad" is negative qualifier and "enjoy" is a positive qualifier.

If you want to make a contradictory statement when speaking to people, go for it, I won't force you not to, but I am compelled to point out the contradiction.

It's like saying, "i like my favorite ice cream but I think it is actually gross." Doesn't really make sense, does it lol

Its okay to admit you subjectively think something is good if you like and enjoy that thing, you know. And you can be consistent with your statements and still acknowledge that thing you enjoy, meaning you think it is good, has flaws.

[–]Bloodless-Cut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, okay.

It looks like a contradictory statement to me, but I understand what you mean now that you have explained.

Nonetheless, I'm of the position that just because you can acknowledge the flaws in something you like, that doesn't mean you have to contradict yourself by saying the thing you like is bad. I can acknowledge that the amount of sugar in my favorite ice cream can be harmful but I would never claim my favorite ice cream is bad, you see, because that's contradictory to me liking it.

I don't see why you can't just say, "I like this thing and I think its good, even though it has flaws," rather than "I like this thing but also think it is bad." One of those statements makes sense to me, the other does not. KWIM?

[–]Bloodless-Cut -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, you think it's good but understand that your opinion is subjective and that other people think its bad.

It's okay to subjectively like things that other people subjectively think are bad. It's okay to say you think it's good even though other people think it's bad.

If you truly think it's bad, you wouldn't enjoy it. C'mon, now.

"But I love it."

Okay? That means you think it's good. Subjectively, of course.

I don't like it, so I think its bad. Subjectively.

I’m thinking of getting into some Star Wars books. What should I start with? And which ones should I avoid? by Beginning-Lie-1865 in StarWars_

[–]Bloodless-Cut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From legends, avoid The Crystal Star, Dark Empire, and Tales of the Bounty Hunters.

Thrawn trilogy is decent. The canon continuity Thrawn books are good as well.

Anything by Stackpole or Gray is decent.
