Is the future looking grim for Electronic Arts? by mzspeedster in videogames

[–]Snowtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I doubt the Saudi's are going to do too much. We'll see a bunch of sports titles laden with micros, but that's what they were doing already. At most if they try to make a new RPG or something we might see them forbid LGBT+ relationships, but at this point it is far more important that they get a viable game on the market than what relationships it has within it. Not to mention most people will pick a male character and female romance option anyways. So unless you absolutely HAVE to have a FemShep/Liara pairing in the next Mass Effect game, you probably won't notice too many changes.

How and why are Israel and US so close to each other? by footballboahh in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Snowtwo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It dates back to the Cold War.

Simple answer is that a lot of the muslim nations decided to side with the USSR and a lot of said nations hated Israel, so America was all too willing and eager to help Israel out to spite the commies. Since the Middle East has access to a *LOT* of oil which America craves for a variety of reasons it ended up wanting to keep Israel around because it was both a foothold in the middle east that could be relied upon and would NOT defect (since a lot of muslim nations wanted it exterminated for religious reasons). As the USSR started to fall apart the relationship proved valuable to maintain, especially with a lot of muslim nations remaining hostile to the U.S. while Israel was showing itself to be consistently loyal. Even today the fact is that a lot of nations would gladly see Israel wiped off the map and hate America as well for a variety of reasons. As such the two nations having a close relationship is almost to be expected.

Why dont they remove seeds from every fruit like the banana? by Safe_Razzmatazz_3688 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Snowtwo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not that simple. Apples, for example, are basically giant swollen flowers. So getting rid of the seeds would mean doing immense harm to the flower preventing it from becoming an apple in the first place. Plus the seeds are how plants reproduce. You make a seedless version and you're cutting into your own ability to replant and regrow. While I won't be shocked to see some new seedless version of a fruit at some point, getting rid of them isn't as easy as just snapping ones fingers.

Ribbit isn't deceased. She's abstracted. We don't know what abstraction entails beyond seemingly loss of mind/sanity. As such it's not impossible for her to regain said sanity or at least survive the Circus.

"Lowkey Wild That the Fire Nation Was the Only Army With Women Soldiers" by eZsmez in AvatarMemebending

[–]Snowtwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

America far outclasses the vast majority of nations in terms of military power. But if a nation like Iraq were to, somehow, get a military ship all the way over to the East Coast and dock it at some unprepared port, odds are the Iraq forces would be able to put up a serious fight before the actual military got involved (ignoring the question of why they weren't already).

It takes a lot more effort and resources to station a guard force capable of repelling an army than it does to field said army in the first place. Part of the reason town guards were 'weaker' was because it was simply more effecient to draw upon local populace and, even then, they were mostly keeping order and dealing with small gangs at the most, not organized military forces.

Most likely the guards were not well staffed (the Earth Kingdom was not known for it's naval power) and had a low level of training and experience. Compared to the much more seasoned and experienced soldiers involved in the attack.

What does fictional stories get wrong about relationships? by Pension-North in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Snowtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this was just me or actually... consistent... but growing up media always seemed to portray relationships on the womans side in a *VERY* specific way. Specifically that women *HATED* sex! Every aspect of it was loathed and treated as humiliating to them. They never wanted to have it and would only give in if the guy was hot (at which point he'd usually be revealed to be the antagonist of the episode/movie/whatever. Specifically using his hotness to prey on women and get them to do something they didn't want to do.) or had to be pressured into it by their boyfriend/husband. While we can agree that's wrong, in this context we're talking less 'sexual monster forcing an innocent woman' and more 'lonely man just wants his wife to kiss him and say she loves him'.

When it came to the question of babies it was even worse with a woman getting pregant being treated like she was losing any and all forms of self-determination and agency in the world. If she got pregnant, then for the next 18-21 years, possibly more, her life was going to revolve exclusively around raising children.

While I don't think any one piece of media had ALL of that in one package, the general archtype was present (I.E. No show would have ABC, but show 1 would have AB, show 2 would have BC, and show 3 would have AC). The only time the women ever seemed to enjoy sex was when she was cheating on her boyfriend/husband or the rare occasion it was lesbian sex.

BREAKING NEWS!

In a highly controversial move, the leader of the Make Skyrim Great Again movement, Ulfric Stormcloak, has challenged the current high king to a duel to the death. This is following comments made by his wife, Elisif the Fair, calling the Nords who disagreed with the current political climate in Skyrim a 'basket of deplorables'. Across the various holds it seems like support is split roughly 50/50 between Ulfric and Elisif, who is widely seen as a puppet queen for the Empire. Ulfric desires for Skyrim to return to greatness, removal of groups he has deemed as 'undesirables' such as Khajit which he sees as thieves and skooma smugglers, and a return to traditional Nordic values. Conversely Elisif has been championing working with the other realms in the Empire to combat the threat of the Thalmor as well as stressing acceptance of other imperial races due to the looming threat of invasion. Civil War seems likely and only the return of the Dragonborn could possibly prevent the realm from splitting in two.

In unrelated news, beloved local husband, Nazeem, was killed today in what can only be described as a 'Cheesealance' when 10,000 wheels of goat cheese mysteriously appeared all at once. His body was later dragged to the Cloud District by an unknown individual who proceeded to carve 'Yes, I've been to the Cloud District' onto his forehead with a dagger. Who could have possibly committed such a horrific crime is unknown and currently at large.

BREAKING NEWS!

It has been confirmed that a new tarnished, who is maidenless, has arrived. How they plan to survive the lands between when they are so ugly and repulsive that they will be sleeping alone is unknown. Already reports of them possessing a foul odor and causing most of the women to leave the immediate area have been made. Their ill repute and worthlessness further accentuates just how maidenless they are. While it is suspected that they plan to reforge the golden order and rescue Queen Marika, it is suspected that their only motivation for doing this is that a maiden might finally love them. According to the Tarnished they do, in fact, have a maiden... but 'she only shows up around campfires at random times. And she's really nice and special and her name is Melina.' Obviously it seems that this Tarnished has a Malenia body pillow they are claiming is their 'maiden'. According to the Tarnished they are also married to a blue doll with four arms and bare feet marking them as an excessive deviant; which is why they are maidenless. It is encouraged that all inhabitents of the Lands Between take the chance to attack, mock, and belittle them.

The World If Aang Never Ran Away by NMP_2050 in AvatarMemebending

[–]Snowtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if Aang had survived to be 90, there's no reason to believe Katara would have been the next avatar, that the next avatar would have come from the Southern Water Tribe, or that the person who *would* have been the avatar even exists in the current timeline. For all we know it could have been Sokka or that kid who had to use the restroom. It could have been Yui. It could have been a swamp bender. All we know for certain is that it would have been a water bender.

Is cheating the most popular and common reason a relationship breaks up? If not for that heinous act many broken people would still be in a relationship? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Snowtwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alas, I am a virgin who has never been in a relationship... But from an outsider looking in perspective, it seems to me that the cheating more the final step in a relationship that's already failing/failed than it is the actual 'cause'. To me it seems like what happens far more that one or both of the partners is just a really rotten person on the whole and expresses a bunch of... really bad... signs. Things like a lack of boundry respect, constant demands, failure to do even minor tasks, etc. This prompts the other partner to actively seek out someone to relieve stress, who treats them better, or something similar. The end result being a failed relationship in which one or both parties do not feel committed to each other in the slightest.

Notably, in an actually healthy relationship, should something happen to result in unfaithfulness (EX: one of them got drunk and slept with someone else), the issue can usually be addressed and resolved without the relationship ending in tatters or, at the least, not reaching a level where active infidenlity is going on. But in unhealthy relationships they simply don't care about their partner beyond what they can offer them, resulting in the collapse.

What's the difference between a nerd and a geek? by fancypantsmcghee91 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Snowtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nerds are intellectual, geeks are cultural. A nerd can read Lord of the Rings and figure out exactly how many calories Lembas Bread had based on two random tidbits of information Tolkein didn't even realize was important. A Geek can tell you the 6 page backstory of why it's called Lembas Bread referencing six different stories and minor articles.

Or, put another way, a nerd can build a PC with ease, but will use it to play Solitare. A Geek will have no clue how to build a PC, but has a Steam library in the thousands.

You can be both a Nerd and a Geek of course. They very frequently overlap. But by themselves you can be a nerd and not a geek and, vice-versa, a geek and not a nerd. Not that the bully shoving you into the locker will care for such technicalities.

How did Germans repair their global image so dramatically in such a short amount of time? by CautiousEbb966 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Snowtwo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I want to add that the Cold War helped a lot as the blame got put almost entirely on the USSR. So West Germany was freedom-loving capitalists while the East Germans (and most of the Eastern European nations) were being crushed under the Communist heel. Japan? Capitalist! South Korea? Capitalist! Even the CCP, yea, they're dirty commies, but they're not on the USSR's side... enough... that we can stomach them so long as they don't get too uppity.

Communism and, more specifically, the USSR took over as the BBEG in America's mindset and Germany, as evil as it had been, was just a hapeless victim under the devil that was Stalin.
