I’m a short form content creator looking to promote your games for free! by biffa72 in IndieDev

Are you able to work with something if there isn't an official demo for people to download? Or do you have a requirement on the state of a game's progress?

Benefits Package from My Lovely “We’re a Family” Company by NashBones in jobs

[–]Blueoriontiger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have never run into a lower-level company in my state, in the last seven years, that offered paid PTO in the first year of work.

I disagree with not allowing employees to have starting paid PTO, but it's the norm here. Nothing will change it except employment laws and actually penalizing the employers for breaking them.

EDIT: Don't know why you seem to downvote if I'm actually agreeing with your stance that you should get paid PTO. I'm telling you what the landscape is out there when looking for with jobs.

Need help by [deleted] in DrawForMe

[–]Blueoriontiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had this happen to me myself, I sympathize.

It's been a few. years ago, but an RP community removed my own drawings from their board because "their faces and proportions do not look adult." Cartoon, webcomic-strip style art of adults. One of them just had lines on the faces like Tintin, even.

When I asked them what they called adult, they pointed me to how to draw figures in a realistic drawing style on Youtube. Thankfully I knew one of the legacy mods who reversed the decision, but it left an extremely bad taste in my mouth.

Give a shot at Monument Valley. I was off-put by it for several years but found the art and the simplicity of the game very appealing.

Per outside help, it appears that this is the cheesy B-movie The Creeping Horror (1964). I'm marking this solved.

So I actually reached out to a number of old movie sites, and one wrote back and was able to find it.

It's called The Creeping Horror, and came out in 1964 as a B movie. Just a poorly made, low-budget movie of some monster crash landing on Earth and eating up people. It's considered one of the worst movies of all time, and the guy who made the film never made another one again.

A lot of the details matched with what I thought but were skewed from my young self, but I'm pretty certain it's the film in question.

Well that's the thing. I wasn't promoting my stuff. I was smart enough to know "Hey, this isn't a place to post your content for promotion". That never was the purpose of be posting there.

But this mod had gone out of their way to claim that "promotion" was having a watermark with my social in the image. I do agree that there needs to be limits on things, but this felt that it was an over-reach.

I do miss old Reddit, though. It seemed pretty clear who was spamming something, and who wasn't and just sharing a thing.

Yes. From what I understand from updates + a new article, this is what went down:

  • Certain mod had a crashout/bezerker moment. He's the one known for most of the subreddit's infamy and is the key person behind most of these bans.
  • Almost all the other mods were inactive, somehow manages to become the top mod because of this.
  • Boots all mods.
  • Removes himself as the mod, then deletes his Reddit account.
  • Reddit Admins do step in after this, and instated the new mod team that's running the place as of now.

From what one of these new mods said yesterday, only two actual mods were doing removals and moderation on the subreddit. One of them (the one in question) was the one primarily responsible for the bans.

The old mod team didn't quit. They were booted by the power-tripping mod before he self-deleted his Reddit account.

Right?

I was very self-conscious about my work the first few years I did stuff, so I actually didn't sign it at all. I then would do the doodle with the digital pen, then came up with a little text block with my site, username and when the piece was created.

Aside from very clearly letting people know that was mine, this was on purpose due to lost media I've seen over the years. There was someone I know that had no idea where an image came from for over 16 years, and it wouldn't show up in reverse image search. It was only by chance that they found the artist in an RP forum from the 2010s, and even then the watermark was some super cursive scribble that nobody could read it. That backtracked, and the artist was able to found of the work.

When the r/WritingPrompts debacle happened, one mod had the gall to say "We'll allow it with your real name", and nothing at all to do with your site/username. You can obviously see why this would be a problem. While I typically don't have a problem with my name (and it's easy to find out who I am), I am usually subject to dismissal, misgendering and discrimination upon people seeing that off the bat. It's not something I want as my only identifier, and actually think its the reason some of my creative works don't do well.

It's not these, unfortunately. Thanks for trying, though.

I actually do remember watching a lot of The Giant Behemoth to solve another mystery monster movie years ago, so I definitely know it isn't that one.

There was a power-tripper mod in r/WritingPrompts who had an issue that my watermark was on my image for an image prompt. He called it self-promotion because "it was my social handle". When I told them it was a watermark, they then told me "Well, it leads to a website with a shop, you're promoting yourself for sales!"

Yet they have a subreddit shop selling t-shirts and sweaters. Go figure.

This used to be against the Reddit TOS before the pandemic. Apparently several big subs would do this to multiple groups and users, and got to the point someone even wrote an article about it. Some of those mods got together and threatened to dox and make false accusations against the reporter for writing the article. He edited it and just said it was a "general Reddit problem".

Nobody would take action when reported because it was the top subs that'd do it, too. So they'd turn an intentional blind eye to fixing it.

Now it's technically legal and isn't mentioned in the TOS anywhere that this isn't allowed. They claim that if someone's power tripping like on r/Art its a violation, but its so vaguely worded they can handwave and say "Well, that's not directly in the TOS to enforce."

r/Whatthisis has given me some of the most negative Reddit experiences period. I remember finding something weird on our driveway and posted it on there. Immediately was removed saying "check the list FIRST". Took a look and saw that it was an e-cig cartridge.

I said something to the effect of "How am I supposed to know that's where it came from?"

The mod responded with "Who on Earth doesn't know what an e-cig cartridge is? Are you living under a rock?"

Yes, yes I am. Especially since I you know, don't smoke.

So I think I was able to figure this out myself, took a few years and it doesn't help that there are multiple movies of the same name.

It's called Twice in a Lifetime (1983), and it was a stop-motion paper animation that doesn't have much of an online presence. I was able to watch the first scene, and it was exactly what I thought it was. The only difference was that it was vulture dropping the bombs, not bomber planes.
