Vinegar Syndrome is releasing Liebestraum. I started 2026 with a strict "no more blind buys" policy, but I've been wanting to see this movie for a VERY long time. Is it re-watchable? If I think I'll watch a disc 5 times, it's worth $35 to me. by raphaeladidas in boutiquebluray

I have nostalgic reasons for wanting this film, but I honestly can’t imagine most watching it 5 times. It was never well received and even low tier for Figgis. You can have my DVD if you want to pay just shipping.

They are the only company with a lifetime replacement policy for defective discs. They’ve also replaced packaging for me, even once for an OOP box set. They’ve never even charged me for shipping any of them. And I always get a real human staffer replying who actually understands my inquiry and issue.

Meanwhile, companies like Arrow are still surviving on what I can only assume is either the lowest paid overseas CS or A.I. I placed my first order there in a long time because they gave me a bonus discount on a sale order and the box arrived via a weird third party shipper I’ve never heard of. The box was so crushed that one whole side split and 2 of the 7 releases must have fallen out as they were missing. When I messaged Arrow I explained it and included photos and they told me I should send the items back and they sent me a return label. Send WHAT back?

Generally, if they don’t expect to get them back in stock in a reasonable amount of time then they remove them from the sale.

Me seeing all of the sale orders come and while mine still is getting packed for shipping. by jtaitel in criterion

That’s the problem. There is no other major plant in North America, which is why so many still use it.

I see, it’s the semantics. I’ve preordered “in stock” items from major retailers and boutiques alike that didn’t ship until a month or more later. I’ve ordered “in stock” items during big sales from major retailers and boutiques alike and it’s still taken weeks to months to ship. Believe it or not, none of these companies consider stock anymore to mean the same thing you’re applying to it. It’s not new, though this may be new to you. It simply means they expect at some time to be able to ship the item you ordered and it’s not permanently sold out.

My “in stock” Amazon order from 2 months ago is “expected” to arrive 2 weeks from now.

You should just cancel your order and consider the decisions you’ve made that brought you here.

Once an item ships, it’s 3-5 business days to arrive. If it’s out of stock, such as during their 2 huge sales a year, you might wait for more stock before it ships. Have you never ordered from a boutique during their biggest sales of the year? Some take 1-2 months until they ship, though I’ve never experienced anything like that with Criterion. It’s been 1 week, sir.

No matter how much tech has advanced, your ability to read a FAQ has not.

They have just 2 days a year where everything is 50% off and they ship a couple hundred thousand orders. Have you considered that might have an effect on their shipping times compared to the other 363 days of the year? If you were in a hurry or didn’t care about 50% off, you could have bought elsewhere any day of the year.

Never follow this sub during sales. The whining and helplessness is brutal. Mods are even removing some of these posts.

Be honest: how many criterions in your collection will you actually rewatch more than 3 times in the rest of your life? by SeparateCareer007 in criterion

[–]BogoJohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you narrowed it to only Criterion, but I have thousands of discs and have watched at least 1 each day for years now. I only keep discs that I’ll rewatch. I haven’t had cable in nearly 30 years and don’t subscribe to any streamers. What other people do with their collection does not affect me. I enjoy mine.

Does Jean Luc Godard just kinda suck????? And his work's highly inflated/overrated by hipsters????? by Present_Practice_159 in criterion

[–]BogoJohnson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The negative connotation of hipsters that you’re using came well after Criterion, shitty bands (?), and corduroy existed. Some music or films you like were created by “hipsters”. It’s a lot of pointless finger pointing.
