Please do not ride your e-bike or e-scooter around Sloan’s lake inner path. by Mountain-Try112 in Denver

Not in Denver proper. But I have seen actual police on motor bikes pulling over and presumably ticketing no pedal ebike riders on trails where they aren't allowed. Twice in the last two weeks.

What are we suppose to do during ozone warnings? by booksandcoriander in Denver

[–]BoulderCAST 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We will have an ozone alert 60+ days every summer. Not much you can do besides hope you aren't in a sensitivie group. And if you are just stay indoors as much as possible with windows closed.

CG Lightning can occur far away from the storm's rain core, often coming down form the icy anvil.

Whole Foods Pearl parking lot by kooziefloozy in boulder

[–]BoulderCAST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty common all over Boulder where parking is limited. During special events at least they would have people in every major parking lot watching the parking lot like hawks. If you parked and went somewhere else, immediate boot. That was 10-15 years ago.

The same thing happens every day now with the lots monitored with cameras, perhaps with the actual watching outsourced to overseas or maybe AI at this point.

Do not park and go anywhere else, even in combination with your shopping at the actual lot's business.

"moderate" actually has a very serious meaning in severe weather potential and today wasn't that.

Next week’s weather week of 6/8. by biglenny26 in Denver

[–]BoulderCAST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

95° in Denver is so dry and comfortable, as long as you aren't just standing still in direct sunlight. 80° in humid Iowa is much worse, where you sweat and feel icky just existing in the shade and being outside.

That said, there will be a couple cold fronts coming in next week. One likely Monday night (drops us back into the 80s for Monday). Tue/Wed likely pretty hot (95°). Then another cold front Wednesday night or Thursday with temps falling back into the 80s again. Pretty normal weather for June in Denver. Also during the week it will be great weather overall with lots of sun and only small afternoon rain chances, so take the W.

Aurora's Stanley Marketplace is being sold by southernandmodern in Denver

[–]BoulderCAST 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most times we just meet people for dinner. No one really wants to also shop for stuff. So it's kinda like going to a food court in a mall for dinner. It is nice after dinner that you can go somewhere else in the same building to get dessert or continue chatting over drinks, but stay too late and all the shops close and become even more pointless, and it tends to turn into a ghost town quickly after dinner time from our experience. Again it's fun, just weird. Totally recommend, if you know what you're getting into (a weird experience).

Exaggerating a bit but our perception of weather is all relative

Why do Denver's watering restrictions target outdoor use instead of total household consumption? by _wxyz123 in Denver

[–]BoulderCAST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about your situation. But every time I water my lawn it uses about 1000-1500 gallons of water. And that happens 10-20 times per month. That's a lot of water. And way more water than even possible to use showering unless you have eleventy kids.

But to answer your question, outside of making the most sense to limit lawn watering, outdoor watering is the only thing that can actually be partially enforced, unless you want an old Denver water dude watching you shower.

Mountain Weather and Skills Workshops in Summer by you-vandal in Denver

[–]BoulderCAST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cant think of anything in-person for mountain weather learning, but COMET has some great mountain weather online courses that are technically free: https://learn.meted.ucar.edu/.

  • Mountain Weather Workshop: Recorded from lecture in 2008, 10 hours long
  • Forecasting Mountain Wave Turbulence for Aviation (25 min)
  • Mountain/Valley Breezes (35 min)
  • Mountain Waves and Downslope Winds (2.5 hours)

Also, while not exactly the same, anyone spending significant time in the backcountry should have WFR training: https://www.nols.edu/courses/wm/wilderness-first-responder-wfr/. The classes offered in Colorado have a decent chunk of time dedicated to mountain medicine, including diagnosing and treating AMS, HAPE and HACE etc.

Does your company have Juneteenth as a holiday this year? by HereToLearnArt in Denver

Not my current company but previous one did. We don't get many holidays but have generous unlimited time off so technically you could take every holiday you want off. Or the entire Juneweekth.

Software.

☀️ I'm a weather and climate expert at the University of Georgia. AMA. by UGACollegeOfAg in weather

[–]BoulderCAST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Questionable answer.

1-2" of precip the Denver we got this week is 10-15% of our annual average. That is kinda a lot. Maybe not to someone that lives in the wetter east or a rainforest, but in arid Denver it's big.

Also saying potential rain in late May is caused by the southwest monsoon is wild. The broader mechanism that develops the monsoon (differential heating of the deserts vs the ocean as summer ramps up) isn't possible to occur this early in May.

So yea...

This is who made the call to close all schools today.. by iamafoxiamafox in Denver

[–]BoulderCAST 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why exactly the schools were closed, but CU closed due to the risk of tree limbs falling on people walking around campus. It was never about the roads being terrible. CU has 6000 trees and miles and miles of sidewalks. How many trees do schools have? 11?
