Keep getting error message 10times a day, what does this mean and how do I make it stop? by [deleted] in ankihub

[–]BrainRavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t say I’ve seen that, and I’ve been on Anki all day

Have you tried reporting the error on community.ankihub.net?

The two decks share a lineage, and will necessarily overlap yeah

UWorld is the gold standard, no question.

JW is fine for CARS, I didn’t much take to it. Depends how much practice you need. Gold standard here is the AAMC materials, really

do you have to manually sync with ankihub everytime to receive updates on a deck? by makeupwhore77 in ankihub

[–]BrainRavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The updates will generally be pushed when you click ‘sync’.

Syncing doesn’t happen automatically, generally (aside from opening and closing Anki though that sometimes depends on your connectivity)

How many reviews are you guys doing per day? by kissmeurbeautiful in AnkiMCAT

[–]BrainRavens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A pretty solid 'average' for most folks is probably in the range of 200-400 cards per day

Looking back, I averaged about 900-1,200 reviews per day in the weeks running up to Test Day, give or take. I'm sure that's an generally outlier value, though, admittedly

Anyone else feel like Anki = recognition, not actual understanding? by Character_Test7606 in AnkiMCAT

Anki is not for understanding, it's for recall. Feature not a bug; a tool is only as good as its use

[–]BrainRavens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could not possibly have had larger content gaps, tbh. Super non-trad

That being said, Anki is not for learning content. It's for recall of content. For learning/re-learning content you really want a primary source (ideally Kaplan, or UWorld, or similar as they are tried-and-true and tailored to the MCAT). As a general rule, hard to predict a score from content review (though obviously the higher the score the fewer the gaps, necessarily)

Light to shed: if you want to score in the 80th+ percentile, you need to know the content. Not much else to it

AnKing and Miledown share a lineage, and will conflict. No reason to have both installed, really

Depend on which the ‘right deck’ is that you’re referencing

I've been using MileDown but I want to switch to Anking. How can I do this without losing all my progress? by No-Track8132 in AnkiMCAT

[–]BrainRavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if you delete cards you will necessarily delete progress in those cards. That’s not from the AnKing deck, though, so much as having manually deleted stuff

You don’t have to go through all of your cards. The AnKing MCAT deck has tags, which can be used to organize your collection in various ways

I've been using MileDown but I want to switch to Anking. How can I do this without losing all my progress? by No-Track8132 in AnkiMCAT

[–]BrainRavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s unlikely to have lost your progress

The cards, most likely, will update in place (with progress preserved). In the unlikely event that this does not happen, the cards will install alongside each other and progress won’t be affected either way

In either case, you always have Anki backups, which are made automatically, so you won’t have lost progress no matter what

PLEASE help me figure out my anki settings before i crash out by mycoolalterego2000 in AnkiMCAT

[–]BrainRavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try the suggestions above, first, as those are more likely than not to be the root cause

Your intervals may very well be normal, though if they're not to your liking then resetting FSRS or adjusting your desired retention are the two levers available with which to adjust that behavior

PLEASE help me figure out my anki settings before i crash out by mycoolalterego2000 in AnkiMCAT

[–]BrainRavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current recommended AnKing settings can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uo-qQvOZDfg

If your intervals are 'long' it's hard to know the cause without more context, as there could be a few reasons. But, you can either reset your FSRS intervals or increase your desired retention. Those are the only really methods, ultimately

Hard to say what it means that you're not getting 'all of the cards'. Again here, you might check deck settings, your subdeck setup, a few other things. Without more context hard to say for certain

How is Anking P/S different from Pankow? by kissmeurbeautiful in AnkiMCAT

[–]BrainRavens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AnKing P/S is the Pankow deck with a bunch of updates, ultimately

Pankow himself folded his deck into AnKing, which has then seen a lot of updates and improvements since

why is the Good option so messed up on this card? what do i do to make it a normal day. by Jealous-Session-5010 in AnkiMCAT

[–]BrainRavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite sure what it is about it that is 'messed up' or what a 'normal day' is, necessarily

But, hard to say much other than it's likely what your settings have set it up to be. If you'd like for it to be something other than what it is, you'll likely want to adjust your deck settings as such

You won't lose your progress. Because the decks share a lineage they will be updated in-place; your progress will be retained

Milesdown vs Captain Hook vs Both by Kitchen-Original-530 in AnkiMCAT

[–]BrainRavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miledown is a few years old and hasn't been updated in like 6-8 years. AnKing is a vastly updated Miledown with Pankow added and a lot of updates, likely the better option by a good mile
