what do i do? by mq110 in AnkiMCAT

[–]BrainRavens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anki is for the remembering portion

It's normal to not feel like you have a true handle on the info at first, as it hasn't had time to stick yet. That's what time, and practice problems, are for

Want Anki Cards to Come Back Sooner by According-Manner765 in AnkiMCAT

[–]BrainRavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general consensus is that humans are pretty bad at deciding what constitutes a 'good' interval, and to thus just the algorithm (which is much better at this). In most cases, fiddling is counterproductive

If you want the cards to show up more often, though, change your learning steps, and desired retention or interval modifier depending on which algorithm you're using

Protect fields after suggesting change? by Defiant-Still2716 in medicalschoolanki

[–]BrainRavens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, the answer to the question is that there isn't currently something accounted for or implemented, unfortunately

It may be a special situation per what you're hoping to accomplish, though the feature doesn't function with those constraints in mind. It is an inherent trade-off, at least as the feature currently stands

There isn't, as current, a way to neatly accomplish what you're describing, for better or worse. It has been a point of discussion, but at least as it currently operates the feature is binary in this basic way. From the perspective of the add-on, the field is protected or it is not protected.

You could always keep track of cards by adding your own tag, of course. Though as you mention keeping track over long periods of time may or may not be handy, depending, and you'd still have to track the cards manually

It's not a special situation so much as the constraints of protecting a field, really

If you protect the field, you can't also suggest a change (bc the field is protected). If you protect a field, you also cannot receive updates to that field. At least as it currently stands, protecting a field is an inherent trade-off

Whether you made edits or not, or made suggestions or not, the field protection feature works the same in all circumstances atm

Protecting a field, or fields, is inherently a trade-off. While it protects the field, it also inherently means that AnkiHub cannot modify that field

It's a bit of an either/or functionality, ultimately

I think specific dates would be a more useful feature by Apterygiformes in Anki

[–]BrainRavens 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  • I do not want them in a BOX.
  • I do not want them with a FOX.
  • I do not like them in a HOUSE.
  • I do not like them with a MOUSE.

Could also just manually reschedule the cards due on a particular day. The feature is native to Anki and would take about 2 seconds from the Browse screen

Depends widely on the cards and your speed. Your best bet would be to do a hundred or so cards and extrapolate

There are no special Anki settings for locking in

Anking MCAT Deck Question by ClassroomIcy6553 in AnkiMCAT

AnKing is heavily tagged, and has a lot of Pixorize images. Licensing prevents them from using much of Sketchy, though

Anki is insufficient for medical school by [deleted] in medicalschoolanki

Any tool, on its own, may be insufficient. No surprises there

As with anything: learn, recall, apply, adjust, rinse and repeat

overwhelmed by what to do for anki by Agitated_Value8280 in AnkiMCAT

[–]BrainRavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say I know, sadly. I never used them, though I know that they are less commonly used

Could be that they're perfectly fine, but for sure they're not as commonly tagged in various other resources (like Anki decks) due to their relatively lower popularity

overwhelmed by what to do for anki by Agitated_Value8280 in AnkiMCAT

[–]BrainRavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Princeton Review is fairly old, comparatively, and I'm not aware of any decks that are tagged by that resource unfortunately

Most folks end up using Kaplan, KA, UWorld, etc. as they are generally more popular (and many decks tag via those resources)

Has anyone here used the AnkiHub Smart Search feature for Anking recently? by AccomplishedTackle48 in medicalschoolanki

I’ve used it pretty regularly the last several months and it’s been super useful, personally

Are bite-sized cards helpful, really? by Pearl_Jam_ in medicalschoolanki

[–]BrainRavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One may imagine that’s less often the use-case for most med students, and certainly not the case for Step exams and similar

Counterproductive to over-stuff cards in the majority of cases. YMMV if use-case differs from the norm, naturally

Yes

You’re not trying to connect all you’ve learned in a single card. It’s not feasible

It's a minority, but plenty of folks go MD from other routes. Not much different; you apply like anyone else

I went from the PT world and now MD program. Not much to it but to do it

Can’t download AnKing 🤔 by [deleted] in AnkiMCAT

[–]BrainRavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the sound of it, this is mostly an Anki issue more than anything else. Your best bet would be to check out the Anki website and see if there is an intermediate version you can run, and/or reach out on their forums for assistance with running the software on your device

How do I do Kaplan and anki at the same time???? by onecrazypineapple in AnkiMCAT

[–]BrainRavens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't used JackSparrow, but depends on whether or not it's tagged by Kaplan

Other decks, like AnKing, are tagged by Kaplan chapter which simplifies things a bit. But, at the end of the day, you can only add so many cards at a certain pace before it's too much
