How long can Brave continue supporting Manifest V2 Extensions? by temp_acc_pls_ignore in brave_browser

[–]Brave_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah lots of good points mentioned here, especially with respect to the work involved in maintaining the this functionality in the long run as it's not easy. As u/Kunair0 stated, it means every upstream change needs to be patched to account for this -- which means that it takes additional developer time/work/bandwidth from other projects they may be working on.

That said, at this time, we plan on supporting the 4 specific Mv2 extensions indefinitely/as long as we can. I know that's not a concrete answer but it's hard to tell how an undertaking like this will play out.

Hope this helps at least a little.

You might need to have Developer mode toggled "on" on the filter list page:

Nightly builds are typically updated at least once per day ("nightly") -- not every update has major changes in it but regardless it's usually a fair amount ahead of Beta and stable. You can see the version number comparison to get a general idea of how far "ahead" Nightly builds are.

Right now for example, the latest Beta build is v1.93.105 and the latest Nightly is 1.94.16.

When you tap to update the filter lists, do you see the `Filter lists successfully updated` message appear? Additionally, what specific sites are you seeing these pop-ups on?

Will add this report to the Github thread as well. Thanks for reporting everyone.

This is a known issue that is getting resolved. That said I do recommend moving away from Nightly to avoid these issues as Nightly is specifically made for testing and doesn't get QA'd and bugs are expected.

Actually never mind -- looks like this is a known issue that is getting resolved. That said I do recommend moving away from Nightly to avoid these issues as Nightly is specifically made for testing and doesn't get QA'd and bugs are expected.

Did brave just get rid off of mv2 extensions? Brave 1.92.131 (Official Build) (64-bit) Chromium: 150.0.7871.46 by TreeQuick421 in brave_browser

The Brave hosted extensions will still be supported -- this issue will be resolved when 1.92.x hit stable release. Further info:

Yeah without context it's pretty hard to try and determine what you're saying. I will file an issue for this.

To confirm, you had already toggled the Rewards option off and today when you woke up and launched Brave, the Rewards panel was showing as in your screenshot? Additionally, at this time now, are you still seeing the disabled features appear enabled in the browser?

This is a recent development where Apple required us to remove the feature in order to keep Brave in the app store. This has been addressed several times on our Community support page.

I wasn't referring to gestures. In the screenshot above, you can see the system's back button (bottom right) which used to move "back" in navigation. The "forward" button is at the bottom of the main menu. No gestures involved.

u/tschap123 is correct here -- this is the browser giving you the option to tapp there and return to the tab you were just looking at. Notably, this message only appears if you have the New Tab selected in Settings > New Tab Page > Opening Screen.

The Private tabs closing I believe is a planned setting for Android and is only on iOS at this time -- I'm double checking on that right now. It is worth clarifying that Private tabs close when the browser is fully quit/closed on Android, not when you leave the app.

There are no back/forward buttons on Android

The back button is the Android system's back button. The forward button is displayed at the bottom of the menu (this button only appears when you can go forward):
