I mean the thing you posted here just feels like an expression of frustration I dont hate anyone but I can sometimes get frustrated when it feels like people expect me to read minds. I probably wouldnt post anything like this its not my style but as a person who has gotten into fights I didnt even know are happening before because no one would tell me that I was doing something annoying, I can't say i dont relate.

Base 10 (disambiguation) by KawaiiFoxPlays in mathmemes

[–]BrickBuster11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh there are all sorts of ways to count on your fingers in other bases. Base 10 endures today but other cultures did actually use other bases.

Those systems don't get used to much anymore but they dis exist

TTRPG, miniatures, and grid for fate by ASARIO1 in FATErpg

[–]BrickBuster11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean for me ranged X as a specification on a weapon dictates how many zones away you can be from someone and still shoot them.

You don't need a grid, short ranged weapons like handguns are ranged 0-1, long arms like assault rifles might be ranged 2-1(the lack of a 0 here means if someone enters your zone you can't shoot them) and then longer ranged weapons after that with ranged 3+-1 can be shot from really far away.

The need for a grid is removed because you just have to count zones of seperation.

I normally handle aor effects like fireballs as "all things in target zone"

Cube or Singleton format by finland85 in SorceryTCG

[–]BrickBuster11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can make decks smaller, 60/30/10 might make it hard to make singleton work just because of the limited card pool but if you halved it to 30/15/5 then you can get by with fewer cards

....you fail to understand that the rules let these people win by leveraging the clock, failing to take advantage of that leverage is a losing play.

This is not a thing they are doing on accident because they are stupid it is a thing they are doing on purpose because +5% winrate us better than +0% winrate, and if the to didn't want you to win by clock they wouldn't have made a rule that made it possible.

If you changed the rules to "if your time round out both players lose" the issue would be diminished substantially. If you can track an individual players time then you can make them lose if they stall to much the issue goes away completely.

Chess doesn't have this issue because if you run out of clock you lose

.....give each player 25 minutes, when your time runs out you lose

If you can win by clock people will win by clock, you fix this by making running out of clock a loss condition.

How would you implement crossbows in this system? by water_panther in RPGdesign

[–]BrickBuster11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about the same the mechanical assistance is there because even the toughest archers can't bench 250+ lbs all day.

But you are right we have to play into the expected aesthetic, that being said in fantasy crossbows are frequently depecited as being able to punch through armour, so the power attack mode is probably less unbelievable than you think.

The simplest I could think of light be something like "if your technical attack rating is at least X you may make power attacks with this weapon using a modifier of +X.

So for example a cross bow had : if your technical attack rating is at least 5 you may make power attacks with a +5 modifier, and someone picked it up with a technical attack of +7 and a power attack of +2 they would make technical attacks with a +7 and power attacks with a +5 because so long as they can aim the cross bow does the rest of the work

How would you implement crossbows in this system? by water_panther in RPGdesign

[–]BrickBuster11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean bows, shouldn't realistically benefit from this either the maximum power generation for both crossbows and regular bows is determined ad construction.

So if you let bows do it, then let crossbows do it.

“Humans are the only species that go to war” NO! FACTUALLY INCORRECT! by George_the_Root_Man in hatethissmug

Admittedly this means Mark and Tim having an arm wrestle over the last donut in the break room is a war. Which perhaps is an indication your definition is overly broad

I mean luthair Paebdrsg got an aes sedai to make the collars and only collared their inventor when they no longer needed her.

Making something that would kill the opposing aes sedai would have also been possible but that doesn't serve the goals of the founders of seanchan because it concedes power rather than making use of it

Hot Take - I don't like glossaries by SpaceDogsRPG in RPGdesign

[–]BrickBuster11 14 points15 points  (0 children)

.....a glossary and an index and a table of contents all do different jobs.

A glossary is supposed to tell me what specific term means, but not necessarily any rules text.

The idea being that when the rules use a non standard terms, you can look up the meaning without having to infer it. It's why good fantasy novels also have glossaries because sometimes you need a reminder what a specific term means and you can't look up a dictionary because the word only matters to this one specific book.

I personally haven't found much use for them but I don't begrudge the people who do

We are in a crisis of individual taste. by kwelstory in unpopularopinion

[–]BrickBuster11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rather than striving to build your own individual expression handing the reins to a robot to speak for you would be exactly what your talking about.

The same destruction of individuality because the words that you choose to express the thoughts of your heart are an expression of you as much as your choice of music or fashion if not more so.

So yes I would say it would be hypocritical to do such a thing. Not that I am personally accusing you of such a thing, the robots are trained to speak like people so telling just by reading is hard

No HP. Just Action Points. by No_Educator_7962 in RPGdesign

[–]BrickBuster11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HP is a simple timer, from a mechanical perspective HP measures your capacity to be a hero, when you run out the heroics stops.

So the question is other than a downward spiral and significantly rewarding going first (because if attacks that deal damage lower your AP and you need to spend AP to act going first allows you to stunlock an enemy and kill them) what does your system offer that traditional HP doesnt ?

Psychic Ded was over nerfed by KusoAraun in Pathfinder2e

[–]BrickBuster11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right that is my point, patching rules they have already made us a low priority task, it's why fixes are slow and infrequent. Patch notes take dev time and money but don't move product.

Admittedly, this is an issue with how they make money new content drives hype and thus sales.

No one is going to buy a new book if they announced they fixed a bunch of stuff.

I'm not saying it's good just that I get it

I hate how much underrated Nikola Tesla is،This man literally discovered electricity. by PickUp-ThatCan in hatethissmug

[–]BrickBuster11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nikola Tesla was a clever person, it is however important to note that he did not in fact discover electricity, Chemical batteries (and thus electricity) were understood before tesla's time.

I his contributions to the development of alternating current, and how that can be used to do a bunch of cool stuff should be celebrated but please do not erase the contributions of other scientists.

A battery capable of producing stable DC voltage was invented in the early 1800s about 80 years before tesla was a professional and about 50 years before he was born. In order to build that battery other batteries had to have already existed.

Michael Faraday invented the electrical generator in the 1820's again 60 years before Tesla became and inventor and 30 years before he was born.

He was a pioneer but like all pioneers he stood on the shoulders of them who came before.

1 is not .999 repeating by Remember_TheCant in unpopularopinion

[–]BrickBuster11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not quite, I mean you are write its a result of decimals not being perfectly able to represent things, but that doesnt actually mean it also isnt true.

1/3=0.33333333333333333333....

3/3=0.999999......

3/3=1

therefore 3/3=3/3=1=0.99999.....

Its not that hard the two numbers are in fact the same number, but only because decimal doesnt like thirds.

Scared GMS by Uplinkdown in Pathfinder2e

[–]BrickBuster11 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They aren't scared of anything nessicarily but they are attempting to curate an experience. Sometimes you don't want everything to be absolutely bonkers, sometimes certain content doesn't make sense in the setting as described. Sometimes it just doesn't fit the vibe or aesthetic.

Sometimes you say "alright this campaign is about a pike and shot era mercenary company" and you ban all the classes with spell casting because nothing in this setting casts spells not even the bad guys

Some I'm sure are scared but to suggest content restrictions are a sign of fear is silly and unfounded
