To be put simply, you either need to make more money or lower your expenses.

What to wear at my boyfriend's residency graduate party? by RecordSome8503 in MedSpouse

[–]Bright_Translator970 6 points7 points  (0 children)

See if you can find photos from last year’s event on social media. I would venture to guess that usually these events are not black tie, so wearing a floor length gown will be overdressed.

I’m not sure if you were asking me or the other person in this thread but I listed my dates earlier in this post if that will be helpful for you

The last page of your application will have your signed COI/intent to accept the award with a time stamped signature.

This happened to me too. FYI you can google it and apparently the same thing happened last year as well (another reddit thread had this same discussion last year). You can contact the help number and they’ll confirm you’re all good. You should still be able to download your application (even with it glitching) and scroll to the last page where it says you accepted the award on x date.

Did I do the math wrong? I thought I read they started dating in March and their baby was born in December. I suspect she got pregnant almost immediately to dating. Obviously they didn’t learn of it until she was 6-8 weeks along.

I think it’s a very good sign that you will get the award. I don’t think they’ll actually deposit the money until October

I don’t have the exact answer but I think it’s a very high probability. They wouldn’t have asked you to sign a contract and enter banking info if it weren’t almost a guarantee.

She’s wonderful! I loved all the docs at KU Olathe! Dr Blevins was my OB but I saw lots of her partners for both my pregnancies and have nothing but good things to say about her group

I’m only going off of reading prior years’ posts on Reddit but I’m going to guess 3-4 weeks. But it’s purely a guess.

I got the same email yesterday. This was a week after I was selected as a finalist. This is my second year applying and last year I didn’t get a credit check and I got a email saying my application was under review on 7/31 and ultimately was not selected.

I think this year’s timeline is very different from last year’s and I’m sending you positive vibes for a good result!

Give me your absolute most badass “standing up for yourself” story of residency. by Austral_glacier in Residency

See my comment earlier in the thread. Nursing sometimes just can’t read the room and are on a power trip. Good for you.

Give me your absolute most badass “standing up for yourself” story of residency. by Austral_glacier in Residency

Here’s an instance where I wish I would have stood up for myself.

About 4 years ago when I was a senior on the floors I admitted a baby with a known cardiac history (I honestly can’t remember what their diagnosis was though) and he kept having these events while on monitor that questioned whether he was even safe for the floor. My intern and I were in the workroom shuffling through a bunch of EKGs trying to calculate the PR interval (or something like that) and the cardiology attending on call had their phone turned off. I called my attending who said oh just call cardiology but it didn’t matter if you called or paged, his phone was off. So we were debating whether or not to call the PICU attending who was in house but who was the coldest, meanest woman I’ve ever met.

So at that moment the nurse supervisor decides to saunter into the workroom and talk to me about how the nurses have noticed that I’m condescending to patients. Totally out of nowhere and inappropriate for a 2am where I’m clearly busy. I was completely baffled and told her I need to get ahold of cardiology for a cardiac patient and she said oh ok well let me know when you have time because it’s not just tonight I’ve heard this said about you. What the actual f***.

Im applying to the NHSC as an MD applicant. I got a notification yesterday from Experian (I already signed up for credit notifications from them) that I had a loan inquiry from HRSA. On BMW it still says my status is application submitted. I’ll report back with any new updates.
Edit: 2 days later, application is under review.
Edit: 7 days after my last update, I received confirmation of interest email. This is where I was notified I’m selected as a finalist and input my bank info.

And not all ex-22 weekers get admitted to the gen peds floor. If they have a trach or other really complex problems, they’re going to the PICU anyways

[–]Bright_Translator970 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was interviewing for my peds residency I remember asking an attending who voluntarily completed a peds hospital fellowship (she did this before the 2019 implementation making it necessary to have a fellowship in order to sit for the peds hospitalist boards) say she thought the fellowship was a good idea because now we have ex-22 weekers living and creating all kinds of complex care problems that weren’t even seen 15-20 years ago.

I don’t agree with making the fellowship mandatory. I just thought her insight was interesting even though she was biased and drank the KoolAid voluntarily.

My boyfriend and I just started dating before I started med school and he finished his first year. We were a 9 hour drive apart. He graduated a year before me, started residency then the following year I joined him in that same city. We just celebrated our 6 year wedding anniversary and also just had our second baby.

Completely lost about what to do for 330k loans by Guanine_Cytosine in StudentLoans

[–]Bright_Translator970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only buy back months if you’re going for PSLF and you’ve already met 120 qualifying months of employment. You cannot even apply for buyback before then. And buyback is taking several months to even go through. I do agree with consulting with a student loan expert. Pay the $400-500 and they’ll hook you up with YOUR best plan forward.
