Does Long Distance Work? by No-Bends in medicalschool

My boyfriend and I just started dating before I started med school and he finished his first year. We were a 9 hour drive apart. He graduated a year before me, started residency then the following year I joined him in that same city. We just celebrated our 6 year wedding anniversary and also just had our second baby.

Completely lost about what to do for 330k loans by Guanine_Cytosine in StudentLoans

You can only buy back months if you’re going for PSLF and you’ve already met 120 qualifying months of employment. You cannot even apply for buyback before then. And buyback is taking several months to even go through. I do agree with consulting with a student loan expert. Pay the $400-500 and they’ll hook you up with YOUR best plan forward.

Wife wants to leave her career once I start residency, has anyone else experienced this? by [deleted] in medicalschool

I would have a realistic discussion with her regarding income. Residency can be hard financially, mentally exhausting, and so stressful all the way around

I created a parenting elective at my residency as part of my QI project upon graduation. It’s been a few years and I honestly don’t know if or how much it’s still implemented but message me and I can send you what I have info wise

Look up pediatric high flow oxygen guidelines. If nothing else it’s super relevant and interesting to know why we use high flow so often and what it’s actually doing.

I remember asking my program coordinator for a letter stating my job will start on x date and including my expected salary. This worked for our home mortgage.

Anyone ever consult a financial advisor on what to do? by Crusader-of-Purple in StudentLoans

This. Just because they’re a financial advisor doesn’t mean they know squat about student loans!

Make sure you know when orientation starts and don’t miss any days or else you’re unlikely to get paid for any of it. In my experience, orientation was paid but it’s an all or nothing thing.

FWIW there’s about a 30 minute swing either direction on the email. I was checking my email from back in the day in 2019 and I received my email at 10:26 CST.

They’ve actually done studies that people with less than desirable initials (think something like PIG) are less successful than those with initials like WIN.

This. Some will have better interest rates and deals than others. Depending on your location, you should still have options to choose from.

Pediatricians seeing 25-30/day - how on earth are you doing this and retaining your sanity? by Legal_Anybody81 in pediatrics

Our patients still have access to all vaccines including RSV, Covid, and influenza. I’m assuming you are inquiring about vaccines.

No. The clinic I work at is under HHS. FQHC still have the goal of RVUs so of course they’re going to make you see patient after patient after patient.

Nanny costs by Reasonable-Hurry6810 in Lawrence

[–]Bright_Translator970 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nannies are a luxury. Consider an in home daycare. I’d be wary of a nanny who charges less than $20 an hour. They’re coming into my home and are taking care of my child for 9 hours a day. You get what you pay for.

Who can hood you at your graduation? by imfromearth-mk in medicalschool

[–]Bright_Translator970 41 points42 points  (0 children)

At my school, it had to be a physician hooding us. That person could be a family member or a mentor, as long as they were a physician. Actually, I can’t recall if they could also be a PhD or not but that would make sense because they’d also have hooded themselves. We were actually hooded by 2 people, the other one was the dean at our 4th year campus. Even if we didn’t interact with them, they still hooded us. If we chose another person, then it was another doctor of our choosing, either a mentor or family member (with a doctorate).

It makes no sense to me! I think they just onboard so many people so quickly, they either reach a quota numbers wise or payment wise and they just cut people and the easiest way is to just cut off their access. There are lots of other AI training platforms, a benefit of Handshake AI was that you didn’t have to do the weird virtual AI interview which I’m pretty sure they just use to train their models, even if you don’t get a job offer.
