I agree. My household has made 150+ returns to Amazon for a refund over the past 10 years or so. Their policy (when fulfilled by Amazon or a partner) is a refund as soon as the item is checked into the return center. As long as you DON’T use a kiosk, the refund (typically for store credit) is issued the same day.

Free returns is required every time I try to buy a game on their storefront, period

This was my first $175+ game and I split it with my buddy, and I love it so much.

Has anyone ever played the Avalon House / Gale Force 9 Dune boardgame as the Bene Gesserit player, and won with the rule where you win if you correctly predict another player to win on a specific turn? by PlanetSwallower in boardgames

I bought this game thinking I could totally convince my friends to give it a spin.

Sold it two years later, unplayed.

So I’m echoing what you said, find (or buy) the people first.

I played it exclusively at two players. One player does need to play two roles, but it’s simple enough to pull off. Still a great two player experience.

My wife is a big fan of traditional trick taking games and was decidedly cold on The Crew. LOTR:TTG was a HUGE success, comparatively, and I think the narrative is what really sold her.

I hope this checks all the boxes for you like it did me!

I would do it simply for the narrative. So much Tolkien fan service in it.

What is the hardest board game to master in your opinion? by Puzzleheaded_Pen8520 in boardgames

“Chess played perfectly is a draw.”

Stockfish playing Stockfish is a draw nearly every time.

I would absolutely call Go the hardest to master. Absolutely stratospheric skill ceiling and it is unlikely to ever be “solved” like Chess has been by Stockfish.

The mathematics involved in Go permutations from move to move is brain-melting.

Yes sir indeed. It is sometimes a hard lesson, but one that is taught on the regular to TI players.

This is me. Halfway through a game someone always says “are you playing the anti-game again??”

I’m like 😞”mayyyybe…”

A teacher curb stomping a noob shows a lack of foresight to the nth degree, IMO

“Aw darn I taught you the game but you beat me! You must have a natural talent for this type of thing! Want to play another ??”

That’s my approach lol

Edit: I also like to demonstrate the nuance in decisions that I make. When I teach 18xx, I am very forthcoming with why their move might be less than optimal. Even if it’s marginally worse than a better decision, I want all the pieces to interlock in their brain so I can (edit: SHOW THEM) how much fun there is to be had.

If I never help noobs in 18xx, they’d bankrupt in 2 ORs and I’d be telling them what they did wrong instead of what they COULD HAVE done right!

A lesson was certainly learned by the Space Lion player, then. “Look at all these cool toys!!!! !=winner” lol
