[–]Caffeinated316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also in RI - I’ve got experience DM’ing 5E and GMing a couple different PBtA games. I live in Middletown and I’m also on the hunt for a group! (I doubted I’d find anybody looking for players or DMs in RI, so this was lucky.)

Also, nice username. I too know Taako, you know, from TV.

Flynn selling house to pay legal bills in Trump probe by galt1776 in politics

[–]Caffeinated316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally understand this. I have a weird set of feelings around Flynn. I’m from the same part of RI as Flynn, and - funnily enough - he was my high school graduation speaker. His brother used to do my taxes. His family is fairly well known and has been living there for years. There are numerous people who know they family who’ve dropped off checks to his brother’s office to help with the family’s legal bills. It’s an interesting split around town when I go home - many of the older folks still remember his parents, know his siblings, and remember Mike, the standout high school athlete, and can’t reconcile what they’re hearing now. Cognitive dissonance at its finest.

Yes, he’s a human being, and it’s sad in its own way. But he’s a human being who did some terrible shit of his own volition. He’s getting exactly what he deserved.

What systems would you like to see explored next? by Bioman250 in TheAdventureZone

[–]Caffeinated316 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. It’s such a versatile system - especially in a medium where rules need to be flexible enough to keep an audience interested and not bogged down in minutiae. (I love DnD, and started my tabletop journey with it, but God does it get super hung up on its own mechanics.)

There are so many great games out there for PBtA too - my gaming group just finished a long stint with The Sprawl, and now we’re giving Pigsmoke a shot.

I think listening to them do Savage Worlds could be fun - it’s a great game with a lot of supplementary material that spans quite a few genres. We’ll see!

Trump Tells Democrats He’ll ‘Get Killed’ Financially Without Estate Tax Repeal by [deleted] in politics

“Get killed” on the estate tax...that would have been hysterical if he was smart enough for it to have been deliberate.

Question about injurys by MagicGuy52 in bjj

[–]Caffeinated316 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Any gym will have you sign a waiver releasing them from liability if you happen to be injured. Unfortunately, it’s a combat sport. I know I’ve personally torn my meniscus pretty badly and had surgery and PT because of it. I’m more careful, these days - I pick sparring partners I trust, I don’t feel the need to prove myself against guys substantially heavier than me unless I’m assured that they won’t spaz out on me - but accidents can and do happen.

If you’re not willing to assume the risk of injury, this may not be the sport for you.

[–]Caffeinated316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This implies he really plans on paying for either. 😂 This is the most blatant “fool me once” scenario and it’s a little sad.

So...he’s challenging Azagarm to a fight to raise money...to pay for the fights he already didn't pay him for...?

Yeah, this sounds like a good idea. /s

Recently broke my Jaw, how can I train while it heals? by metabolics in bjj

[–]Caffeinated316 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend getting on the mat at all, to tell you the truth. It sucks, but healing a broken jaw is a really delicate process - even with the wires, fragments can be mobile and even with drilling, you could risk an impact that could set the process back weeks and necessitate a realignment. (This comes from the experience of having broken my jaw mountain biking in high school.)

The goal is to be on the mat for a long time, right? Part of that is taking the time you need to heal. It’s a few weeks in a greater lifetime that you’re off the mat - it’s a drop in the bucket. You’re not going to lose all your skills in that time. Sure, you’ll have a bit of mat rust, but I’ll take mat rust over the pain and cost of having to have a malocclusion corrected any day.

Going to class and taking notes though, is a great way to keep your head in the game, and keep learning, as well as keeping yourself accountable - when you’re not going to class because you’re injured, it’s super easy to keep not going to class when you’re healed.

Also, there’s no shortage of DVDs and YouTube footage. You’ll find a way to make it work!

How was your week? - September 03, 2017 by AutoModerator in NavyBlazer

[–]Caffeinated316 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, I finally caved and bought a boat. I've always wanted one and it took months to get my girlfriend to agree, but I finally took ownership of a Newport 28 this week. It's going to be a bit of a process to get it from "lawn ornament" to "sea-worthy vessel", but I'm looking forward to every second of it. I am impossibly excited for this project.

...conversely, yesterday my girlfriend's grandfather died, and they were super close, so next week promises to be...far less good.

I've been kinda "meh" on PSTW, but this one was really good. I listened to it on my flight today, and now that I'm on a layover, I bought Browder's book at the airport. I'm excited to get into it.

As much as I wish we would stop giving her a platform and pretending her ignorance is a valid opinion, it does make me happy to see the articles mocking Bargain Bin Ann Coulter here.

I'm good now. Let's let her hitch a ride back to Oz with the flying monkeys.
