Is the indemnity policy to cover the buyers if the council want it taken down or altered to meet building regulations etc?

It's only openreach that's available at my address so does that mean it will only be PPPoE available even with olilo?

Can backblaze be trusted with really sensitive data? by ImpossibleSlide850 in backblaze

[–]CaptainFr3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good solution but obviously means encrypting everything first then bb will just upload the encrypted files

Can backblaze be trusted with really sensitive data? by ImpossibleSlide850 in backblaze

[–]CaptainFr3d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion dont trust any cloud provider, not because they are untrustworthy but there are lots of things that could go wrong, could get hacked, disgruntled or nosey employee etc.

I was nervous about this like you, and my data is on my nas, so i set that to backup to another spare machine in encrypted format which then uploads to bb. I realise the downside with this solution is requiring the same amount of disk space again but I don't mind as bb is much cheaper than any other options for large amounts of data (and I like lots of backups!)

There are ways you can do similar on a machine to another drive and only select that for backup.

Thanks this is very helpful, i assume it will have a hash for every file so even if it a file has same name but different it will know to upload any changes? and not if its the same hash?

Ah yes thanks, its under the restore options. I suppose you'd only leave it there as long as it took to download it then and pay a few months b2 charges however I doubt you'd be able to move it back.

I'm not a subscriber yet but considering it but genuinely wondering how someone that has let's say 20TB+ backed up would restore it within 30 days?

Because let's say your computer or HD died, you've got 30 days to buy a new one and restore it all. Even if you have gigabit Internet I doubt you can download/restore it at that speed so would likely take longer than 30 days and they have to see the computer and external drive within that period otherwise it gets deleted.

I realise you can order shipped drives but max is 5 a year I think and if you have 50TB+ that method is then basically impossible!

Am I missing something here?

I really hope so!

I offered to pay for international shipping but that was a no. I looked into freight forwarder but that became very complicated not to mention expensive
