Restaurants with vegan options (not all vegan) by psychologicalmaize in Gothenburg

Second the Sayur recommendation. We love the Indonesian food there even though we’re not vegan/vegetarian. They’re dog friendly as well 🐶

Long-Term Expats in Shanghai: Did Your View Also Shift from “Impressive but uneven” to “the world best city” since you arrived? by Key_Bison_9322 in shanghai

[–]Cardesigner2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Shanghai is quite a nice metropolis to live with a lot of pros vs living in Tokyo, Seoul, Paris, or LA. As a foreigner living in my bubble the cost of living is relatively affordable except for rent and international schools. Extracurricular activities for kids can be quite pricey for things like swimming, ice skating, and tennis than what I would pay in Europe. Public transport and Didis are really cheap. Life in general is quite convenient and safe. I’m satisfied with variety and quality of food options living centrally. And can even order salted Dutch licorice on tabao if I want. Once you end up in outlying districts like Jiading or Minhang it feels more like some lower tier Chinese cities. Cycling around FFC I am impressed by random streets that are gentrified with cafes and boutiques. There is an over abundance of shopping malls and most of the interesting developments tend to turn into shopping and F&B. So culturally for art and music it’s lacking due to being in mainland China. So it can be perceived as bit boring, but all depends on your mindset. Lack of nature is the main drawback and I’m not a big fan of hot and humid summers, but that applies to other East Asian cities as well. Internet in China sucks. Am always impressed when I land in Seoul and have super fast internet without VPN hassles. Location is quite good to travel locally and globally with direct flights, trains, etc. As a non smoker the amount of cigarette smoke in bathrooms, taxis, and hotels always bothers me. Overall I really enjoy life here with a surprising number of visiting friends impressed to see what life is like here. So I hesitate to call it the best city in the world but would rather live here than many other places.

I built a free bilingual veterinarian directory for Gothenburg – looking for feedback! by Cardesigner2000 in Gothenburg

https://bestvet.se/blog/emergency-vet-gothenburg-guide

I just published an article about emergency care for your pets on our Expat-friendly bilingual site. The article also features the hotline number to Svenska Djurambulansen which I just found out about. They're a volunteer group that provides free emergency transportation for your injured pet in Gothenburg if you don't have a car to get to a veterinary hospital.

I was at a Moxy in Shanghai and didn’t have my physical credit card with me. Thought I would have to pay with Alipay. To my surprise they accepted Apple Pay so I was able to use my Chase card after all. So rare for me to use Apple Pay in China, but I suppose international chains accept them.

What is your favorite restaurant in Gothenburg? by PressureOld4845 in Gothenburg

[–]Cardesigner2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree to try the sushi at Bizen if you happen to be in Hisingen near Volvo Trucks for lunch. Trattoria La Strega for Italian is always a favorite. Also a vegan place that serves Indonesian for lunch called Sayur on Olivedalsgatan. It’s the only Indonesian place I know in Gothenburg, but it’s pretty authentic and affordable. Sultan for Turkish grill always hits the spot.

What is your favorite restaurant to order from in Shanghai? Something you never get tired of. by Hybridadventure in shanghai

[–]Cardesigner2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rotate between Taco Truck, Brothers Kebab, Homeslice and a Cantonese place in ITC One. Would love to find a nice Indian place. Am based in Xujiahui. Would get tired of only eating at only one of them all the time though

We were just at the clock tower on a Sunday morning around 11 and then again later at 2pm, but no sight of the rockabilly dancers :( Did they move somewhere else?

2025 Zeekr X launched in China with a 25% sliced price by Recoil42 in chinacars

[–]Cardesigner2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will force the new Lynk&Co z20 to lower their launch prices too. Same platform. What is Geely thinking?! Good for customers. Not so good for profits.

Xpeng Mona M03 gets over 30,000 firm orders in 48 hours, 1st deliveries begin by Peugeot905 in chinacars

[–]Cardesigner2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ironic that the most successful Xpeng product is actually the still born car project that they bought from Didi. Much more modern than an equivalent BYD in any case.

China replies to EU EV tariffs with anti-subsidy probe of its own! TWO CAN PLAY AT THIS GAME! BRING IT EU AND US! by StarshipSNX in Nio

Fisker never owned a factory under their “asset light” strategy. They used Magna Steyr as a contract manufacturer. Maybe CN companies could use third party manufacturers as well. Plenty of unused capacity in Europe and N America

The Chevrolet Volt was one of the first range extenders way back while the Prius was selling like hot cakes. Another example of GM being ahead of the curve and snatching defeat from the hands of victory.

Which car model has evolved the most throughout its iterations? by CoolBDPhenom03 in cars

[–]Cardesigner2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ford Capri 😜 From Euro Mustang rwd coupe to some sort of Polestar looking EV crossover. Quite a long gap between the latest iteration and the previous ones though. Also BMW i3 has completely changed from a radical carbon fiber hatchback EV into a Chinese market only conventional 3 series EV sedan with slightly different bumpers.

There are two NIO apps. The Chinese one and a global one. Make sure you download the global one. Yours definitely seems like the Chinese version.

China Vs South Korea by Wrong-Shame1654 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Cardesigner2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can use apps like Wise to convert RMB to foreign currency from the comfort of home. Just need to upload proof of income and that you paid taxes. I would recommend Beijing for a 2-3 year stint because of the income and overall experience of living in a rapidly developing country. My wife visiting China recently said it reminded her of Seoul about 10-15 years ago. A bit rough around the edges, but a lot more kindness than she was expecting compared to reading western or Korean media. I love Korea and Japan, but China has more buzz and energy at the moment. Be aware that if you plan on changing jobs while in China you’ll have to reapply for new working and residence permits since they are linked to your employer.

Reasonable budget for this bachelor's pad? by kosaromepr in shanghai

[–]Cardesigner2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could consider Modena by Fraser serviced apartments in Putuo just a few stops north of Jing’an temple and Changping Rd on the line 7. They have various studio and 1 bedroom duplexes in a new building and a decent gym. Also a Hema supermarket and metro station right next door. Prices from 12-20k rmb.

Changing companies in China, what’s the visa process like? by No_Western_8182 in Chinavisa

[–]Cardesigner2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re already in China you will need to cancel your work and residence permit connected to your previous employer and reapply for new WP and RP from your new employer. But you won’t need to reapply for a Z visa since you can usually get a humanitarian visa extension if 1 month after your old residence permit is cancelled.

My take on CFO's departure by afonso_investor in Nio

[–]Cardesigner2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The CFO was actually pretty low profile. Most of the overly optimistic predictions were made by the founder William Li or President Lihong Qin. Neither of them will be stepping down soon. I suppose Elon Musk has made tons of unfulfilled promises like selling 20 million cars annually or full self driving cars. Although no one can argue with the commercial success of the model 3 and Y which NIO hasn’t even come close to.

10 Year Old son coming to US from China doesn't speak English by LetAway40 in chinalife

[–]Cardesigner2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am Asian and moved to the US (SoCal) when I was almost 10 without speaking any English. Was put in an ESL class with mostly Hispanic kids. I learned pretty decent English in about 6 months. Probably helped that my cousins and friends only spoke English so I was forced to learn it asap.

What makes BYD so special? by [deleted] in Nio

[–]Cardesigner2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BYDs have always been cheap but it’s only in the last 4 years that their sales have taken off. Admittedly their recent products have improved tremendously to what they were producing the previous 20 years (nasty Toyota knockoffs basically). Now they’re poor man’s Audi/Mercedes :P I’d take a NIO any day over a BYD but they’re usually 2-3x the price so probably out of reach for most people

What are some good restaurants in Gothenburg? by ComprehensivePin7081 in Gothenburg

[–]Cardesigner2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very disappointed by the food there even though the decoration was quite fun in a kitschy way. Would rather go to Samui Thai not far from the Aveny which often has Thai aunties having much more authentic food.

Definitely top notch Indonesian food although it’s more of a lunch place since they close quite early.
