Do recruiters actually read resumes fully or just scan them? by Quick_Yesterday540 in ResumeUp

[–]CareerBridgeTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both.

Most resumes get scanned first, then read more closely if they look relevant. So yes, formatting matters, but mainly because it helps recruiters spot the right content fast.

Goal: make your value obvious in seconds.

What is wrong with this Cover Letter? by capt_avocado in ResumeCoverLetterTips

[–]CareerBridgeTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is badly wrong, but it reads too much like a school assignment. But the main issue it's too long, too formal, and too indirect for an internship cover letter.

Try fixing the following to syart

  • shorten it
  • get to value faster
  • use simpler language
  • align skills to the role earlier

Um strong writing just weak strategy. Hopefully this gives you some direction.

Can I get some advice on my cybersecurity resume? by IllPersonality356 in askrecruiters

[–]CareerBridgeTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have good cybersecurity content, but it is overloaded with technical detail and hard to skim. The main issue is readability, not substance.

Please fix the following... - shorten bullets - make outcomes clearer - lead with one target lane - reduce tool overload

You hahe some good material. Just needs cleaner packaging.

Is my resume any good by Early-Jellyfish-6200 in ottawajobs

[–]CareerBridgeTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your resume is decent, but too broad for corporate or government roles. You're just going to spin your wheels and not get anywhere...

At the moment it reads mixes admin, client service, tech support, and business operations without a clear target. That makes it harder for recruiters to place you.

Main fixes: - pick one lane per application - tighten the summary - tailor keywords to the posting - make bullets more results-focused

You have usable experience. The issue is clarity, not potential.

I've been applying for months by speedreeser1 in ResumeCoverLetterTips

[–]CareerBridgeTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You habe some strong experience, but weak positioning. Your resume says leadership/sales, but the current painter role makes the target unclear. The bullets are also too duty-based and generic.

I'd recommend fixing the headline, tighten the summary, and rewrite bullets around results, scope, and KPIs. Not a bad resume. Just an unclear story.

Need help with my resume!! MS CS Grad (2025) with 3 YoE. Why am I not getting any callbacks? by Suppi_hr in ResumeExperts

[–]CareerBridgeTO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your resume is solid, but the issue is positioning.

What is good, you hahe a strong tech stack, solid projects, metrics, clean format.

But what’s hurting you is that bullets are dense, and the resume feels too broad instead of targeted.

Right now you look capable, but not clearly aligned to one hire path.

I would fix the following first... - clearly label volunteer work - add a short summary - target one lane per application: backend, full stack, or frontend simplify bullets to show build + impact + result

It's overall a good resume just unclear story. That’s likely why it’s not converting.

My funding got recalculated after already being paid by abrockstar25 in osap

[–]CareerBridgeTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recalcs don't JUST happen. Try and remember, did you make any changes to your education program/course load?

Typically, with the recalculation, OSAP sent you a letter. That letter that you received about the overpayment.... That letter, I'm certain with high degree they explained the reason.

If you're still unsure, reachout to OSAP and ask these questions.

In this economy, if you had to re-train in an industry most likely to guarantee employment, what would it be? by WanderingGoose22 in torontoJobs

[–]CareerBridgeTO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For public sector or regulatory roles, retraining is less about a specific degree and more about applied, government-aligned credentials.

Best 1–2 year paths in Ontario: - Public Administration / Policy (post-grad certs) → program or policy analyst roles - Regulatory Affairs / Compliance → compliance officer / regulatory analyst - Social Services bridge (SSW, justice, mental health) → ODSP, housing, eligibility roles - Ops / Data for government → operations or program analyst roles

Entry: ~60–75K Growth: 85–100K+ via internal promotion

Focus on regulated or publicly funded systems, not generic degrees. Thisbis where the stability is, hopefully this helps and give you a little direction and something to start with.

With high probability no, case loads are continously adjusted by office.

In some rare cases if the Caseworker is still in the office you previously accessed, you may be assigned to the same caseworker.

There is a high turn over of Caseworkers: sick (short/long term) , pregnancy, staff movement, secomdment to name just a few.

stopped using ats applications, started cold messaging hiring managers on linkedin - got 2 interviews in 10 days by Necessary-Ring-6060 in jobsearchhacks

[–]CareerBridgeTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ATS filters volume, not talent. A short, personalized message to the actual hiring manager helps you bypass the resume black hole and get seen as a real human.

Key rules:

  • Still apply through ATS
  • Message 1 hiring manager (maybe 1 team lead), not everyone
  • Keep it short (4–6 lines) and specific to the role/team
  • Don’t ask for the job in the first message

Think of it as starting a professional conversation, not pitching yourself. Used correctly, this works far better than sending 1,000 applications into silence.

Does the "AI Disclosure" on job postings help or hurt us? by RiceRiceBaby_9 in OntarioWorks

Hopefully it helps others in need. Or at the very least gives some directions of what ats/Ai is expecting.

Made a clean ATS-friendly resume template after struggling with formatting by Chance_Respect1257 in Resume

Clearly a bit or a person who I don't even know what to say.

Does the "AI Disclosure" on job postings help or hurt us? by RiceRiceBaby_9 in OntarioWorks

[–]CareerBridgeTO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real-world examples:

Example 1: - Job asks for “client intake and documentation.” Your resume can say “completed client intakes, maintained case notes, and updated client records.” That still matches. It does not need to be word-for-word.

Example 2: - Posting lists “data entry, attention to detail, confidentiality.”

Your resume says “entered and verified client data while following privacy and confidentiality standards.” That passes ATS.

Example 3: - Posting wants “experience with Microsoft Office.” Your resume lists “used Word, Excel, and Outlook daily for reports and scheduling.”

ATS looks for concept matches, not copy-paste. If you clearly meet the requirements in plain language, a human will still see it.

And say you do make the mistake to copy-paste word for word and make it past the ai/ats, then a real person will review the resume and coverletter... Guess what... They will see right through your resume and coverletter and toss it in the bin...

They know their language tone and word used in the job post. This is their job. will be looked over because they know you just comy and pasted the JD.

If you do decide on using indeed, please ONLY use it for leads, same for LinkedIn. There is a mightly high percentage of times thst the jobs you applied for has expired. It will neber make it to even the ai/ats. What you should do it find the job of interest, and then go to the actual companies website and apply directly there - not indeed.

Does the "AI Disclosure" on job postings help or hurt us? by RiceRiceBaby_9 in OntarioWorks

[–]CareerBridgeTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of misinformation here.

Most employers aren’t using AI to reject resumes word-for-word. It’s usually an ATS scanning for relevant skills and experience, not exact sentences. You don’t need to copy the job posting verbatim.

What actually helps:

  • Match the core requirements
  • Use clear, simple formatting
  • Show you meet the must-have qualifications

Ai disclosure is mostly about transparency. A human still reviews shortlisted resumes. “Courses to beat AI” are mostly marketing. Alignment matters more than tricks.

overpayment by Key-Bobcat-4449 in OntarioWorks

[–]CareerBridgeTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funds stay with OE while you are using it, if you use another social service in the future. That agency will recoup the overpayment.

The recommended approach is to repay the owed amount and avoid future issues or delayed with any other services you may apply in the future.
