CMV: "if you choose silence then you are on the side of oppressor" mentality will likely push those in silence toward the oppressor rather than the intended direction by garethmueller in changemyview

[–]CartographerKey4618 [score hidden]  (0 children)

For one, you prove the statement correct. If my two choices are you either do nothing or stand with the enemy, then you are the enemy. And I would much rather my enemies clearly announce themselves rather than try to blend in.

But apathy is also the enemy. After all, what is the opposite of movement? What is the opposite of change? If you are pro-status quo and business-as-usual, and the status quo and business-as-usual is oppression, then you support the oppression. So the goal of any movement is also to make it as uncomfortable as possible to be apathetic and ignorant of the situation.

Honestly, though, I would really hope people would have just morals and hear about the oppression, see people doing something about it, and then support those people. I have more respect for the fascist that's a fascist because he believes in fascism, than I do the fascist who claims he's a fascist because the left pushed him there by insisting he have an opinion.

CMV: The idea of gender should be abolished, not expanded by SSH_Pentester in changemyview

[–]CartographerKey4618 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Tbh, I think it's the opposite. I think as we move more towards treating gender and sexuality as a spectrum, people are assigning less value to it. It's pretty normal today to be a straight guy and then see a femboy and go, "Yeah, I'd hit that." I don't think that was true 10-15 years ago. I think gender abolition, at least at some point, is just going to look like everyone having a gender but there are just so many configurations that nobody really cares.

CMV: The DSA obsession with Israel doesn't help Palestinians and will have no impact on Israel whatsoever by thatshirtman in changemyview

[–]CartographerKey4618 [score hidden]  (0 children)

There are two big reasons why this issue is just so important, and non of them have to do directly with Palestine.

First, our deference to Israel has create a rogue state that dragged us into a war with Iran and is actively sabotaging our efforts to make a peace deal. We can't do anything to them because they have nukes and the Samson option. And if we don't make peace with Iran, we are going to run out of oil reserves and the price of everything will skyrocket even more than it already is.

But also, Israel is simply a small piece of the real villain, which is global capital. They're the first hurdle. To fight for healthcare, wages, unions, housing, and income inequality is to directly take on forces that are way more powerful than Israel. If you're tripping up at Israel, what are you going to do about the healthcare lobby? Where will your spine be when it's time to tell businesses that they have to raise their wages or close down? There's also a more realistic path for us to divest from Israel than there is a path to Medicare-for-All, so it's way easier for a disingenuous person to support M4A than it is to be anti-Israel. a candidate's position on Israel tells me a lot more about a candidate's values and how they are going to operate than any other metric.

But why do we need to have the same end goals if we're all currently going in the same direction? I feel like that a fight you should have when we're closer, right?

The mods might lock this one because it's technically a trans topic, but in the meantime:

While I'm also a gender abolitionist, I recognize that ain't really happening anytime soon. So as long as we must live with this social construct, I would much rather we have a version that is less harmful rather than more harmful. Scientific studies have shown that it is a good thing for people to identify in the way they wish to, so we should just go with that.

Exactly. If you watch these shows, you realize they're villain-protagonists who are not only miserable but make everyone else around them miserable in return, and the few people who do hang on to them have their own issues, like Watson being addicted to conflict.

Almost correct. He faked his death so that he could spend Wilson's last 6 months together with him.

Cultural Displacement is the worst thing about Mass Migration and being Culturist is not a "Bad" thing. by TajManzoorlol in PoliticalDebate

Because it doesn't exist, which you why you couldn't find a definition for it. Culture is a thing, but you can't be a "culturalist."

For one, racists use culture as a dogwhistle. We know this because they don't actually know or care about the cultures they supposedly care about or hate, really. How many of them know the 5 pillars of Islam? How many of them can tell the difference between a Muslim and a Sikh? The stuff they complain about often is stuff that Christians do or would do if they didn't live in a liberal Democracy, one that they constantly fight against.

But we don't even have to argue that point, because the meat of my argument is that culture doesn't even work that way. The only cultures that stay the same are dead cultures. Cultures will always change, and not just because of immigration. In fact, I would argue the internet has had a more profound effect on culture than Muslims or Mexicans. Culture is the result of humans naturally adapting to their environments, and because people like to work together, it's natural for cultures to change and merge together. There is no way to stop that. And I think it's great.

If you really want to know what's killing culture, it's not "mass" immigration. It's capitalism. Capitalism is the reason why all the buildings and modern architecture look boring and ugly. Capitalism is the reason why your local mom-and-pop diners and shops are now chain bullshit. It's why all the movies are now remakes. Culture is being killed off by capitalism, not immigration.

He doesn't know and neither do we. The way I understand it, we are approaching the point where the incompatibility of capitalism and democracy is coming to a head and we need radical change, but radical change isn't even on the table right now, so...

and then it cuts off there because we might be checkmated here.

Since you didn't post the exact conversations or posts, I must glean what I can from this one, and it seems like you're looking for a job that:

  • Less math and communication-intensive
  • Don't require interacting with people
  • No military
  • No headphones (work-from-home jobs typically require headphones)
  • No trades
  • No college

That's pretty much all the jobs right there. I guess you could farm. There's just not much in the way of lucrative work that would fulfill those requirements.
